Has there ever been a better Trumpet player then Freddie Hubbard, even when he as high as a freaking kite? The world is a better place for him having been in it, there is always such fire to his playing that once it sparks it is fierce, greatly missed but left such a legacy .

Obviously this was before the mysterious lip injury. Freddie was such a creative and amazing trumpet player. Each chorus just keeps building intensity. Amazing! I put Red Clay on CD intending to listen to the first track only and of course it became a mandatory full album listening session.

Muchas gracias Freddie, Kenny, Mark, Ira y Carl, tremendos!

WOW !!! Kenny garret talking so smoothly ! It's criminal. His solo is absolutely amazing and so WOW!!! The accompagment is so incredible, the way thez follow, they put up the pression and this is the Exstase of the song!! I LOVE it!
Freddie, we know he's underrated, but no more nowadays! It's the principal. Every one know and quote him on the "conservatoire" (jazz music academy in France).
Thanks to this musicians, I think if i was there, I would absolutely not forget this day...
    Cheers from France !
God bless this music of souls

In 80's he did the show in São Paulo, Brazil, for about 20 people - yes, the auditorium was empity. But even that he did his best. And between a song and another, he put his hand on his forehead and said "Brazil, where are you?".
My father was in the audience and always tells me this story.

Ira Coleman! Fresh from the Berklee College practice rooms and ensembles. Great player among many great jazz players at Berklee from 1980-86: Branford Marsalis, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Marvin Smitty Smith, Gene Jackson, Makoto Ozone, Panamanian pianist Danilo Perez, Billy Kilson, Donald Harrison, Cyrus Chestnut, Dave Kikowski, some great saxophonists whose names I forget, and on and on.
