You should have a clutch pedal and when you push the pedal in it loosens the belt. You would also need a way to lock the clutch pedal down for starting and getting off the go-kart while it's running. I think that would be better than having to hold your lever up to keep moving.

Or just flip the belt around that way you don’t have to hold it and when ever you start just have it up

For any of you who might use this design, remember to put the tensioner so it pushes against the part of the belt that is going from the engine to the wheels. Don’t do it like this guy did, he put it on the part of the belt going from the wheels to the engine.
Your arm is now the clutch spring. Wow.

Good work, try to improve clutch system by preventing heat , noise and neutral friction (at N position of gear ).
Put on a centrifugal clutch to avoid burning up the belts put the tensioner pulley on the out side of the belt with a spring keeping tention on it and use your string the same then add a rear sprocket from a mountan bike and boom you got yourself a 7 speed go cart
Please Elaborate this doesn't make sense. I know what a centrifugal force clutch is but how can you make a manual with it?
So essentially what you just made was a belt dive that wants to blow itself up? Because that belt tensioner is 1 tensioning the wrong side of the belt, and 2 tensioning your chain, and the Fact that you could have just fixed and the spinning components to one place, and made your belt tensioner what gives you engagement, your set up would be way more reliable, and also, that's not a clutch, it's a belt drive

Well to be fair, this is how nearly all gear drive lawn tractors work. The clutch in them do the same thing.
It is a clutch and also a belt driven, this is also how they work on mowers and no they don't blow up all the time

Ur clutch or pressure wheel needs to be creating pressure from the outside of the belt n from the. Slack side. Not the pull side. this creates easier tension and more tension

No. Pulley goes on bottom of that belt, NOT 'pulling' side. Also, how is it that all these (offshore) videos have real honda engines, yet U.S.A. Stuck with Chinese predator knockoff type? Comin home to roost,I guess..
Predator and Honda are made in the same factories!! Just like eyewear and designer jeans! Just re labeled at another plant. Carbs same thing. Even Bluetooth headphones! Beats by Dre are re labeled lower cost Altec Lansing speakers. Its all the same crap! Other countries get Honda engines but they are old! Just like Cuba they can make it last!!

You should push down on the belt rather than pull up on it... creates more belt in contact with the pulley.

Some squeal off the belt on start off My old castle garden lawn mower had that system. 20 years ago worked much better I though he was making a clutch. Not a belt burner Back to the drawing board for the reinvented wheel going soon

Si comparto la idea, si al motor estacionario le colocamos un cable junto a la palanca de embrague, que actue a la vez acelerando al motor , ayudaria para subir cuestas con carga, y evitariamos que el motor se debilite en esas condiciones, pero la idea esta dada, solo esta para aplicarla como mejora.
O meu amigo o pedal de acelerar tem que ser no pé você tem que ter as duas2 mãos para para a direção está e a regra ok mano ???

I like this except I think the belt tightener idler should come up from the bottom. That way you get a better grip on the small pulley. I think the belt tensioner should be activated by a foot peddle or a lever that stays tight once it is pushed or pulled over so far.
