A lot of unique sports in Europe are not played for spectators but for fun of it. Two villages after a successful harvest playing a game of Hornusse just because it is fun, is in my eyes sport and not watching for six hours commercials.
I'm from Queens, NY and I gotta say, this looks super fun. Not much of a spectator sport but definitely a sport you can enjoy with the guys. Makes me want to play 😂
Wow, Transworld Sport still going strong (I'm here thanks to Tom Scott). Used to watch it regularly about 30 years ago, think it was on every Saturday morning. First programme on UK television where they pronounced native words properly!
Like ‘Schwingen” another Swiss sport. Now you cannot get tickets anymore since only people who want to be seen and not go to see the competition can afford it or have access to it.
I never heard of this sport until yesterday on a RUclips short video. Honestly this looks like a lot of fun like a hybrid of baseball and golf but more fun and yet to socialize with a nice meal :p
I don't think there’s any chance. Hornussen has had a difficult time in Switzerland for years. Every year there are more players who quit than the youngsters who start.
@@Wankdorf183They need to change the rules a bit and it could work. They really need to remove people standing in the field. Make it a competition about 2 individuals trying to hit a specific target.
Could you imagine going to play golf with your friends and you turn up with one of them long boys and blast the golf ball completely out of the course!😂It really does look like a fun game though.
The Swiss - when the battle is over - lets eat and drink together with our opponents. The rest of the word - i hope my opponents chokes on their food...
I didn’t quite understand it. Is the intention to catch or block the hornuss? 3:02 The speaker says that from the perspective of the field team they try to stop the hornuss from landing (on the playing field?) but from what I can tell they don’t catch it but block it? Maybe it’s super difficult? I don’t know. But I don’t 100% understand what the pizza pan guys are trying to achieve other than somehow intercept the hornuss. Can someone please enlighten me? Many thanks
This looks like the most American sport ever. Go stand in a field while we see who can hit a hockey pick the furthest, and be sure to try and hit it out of the air.

I'd love to hear a favorite list. This is amazing

I love that a Documentary was made about it 😁 i play it myself and its very fun
Looks pretty cool - I love games like this that are unique...would love to give it a try.

Thanks @Tom Scott!
I would love to see a Hornussen driving range in Canada. That swing looks satisfying.

I loved Transworld snowboarding growing up. Dunno if they're related
Yep I used to wake up early on a Saturday 6am to watch it
That "catch" at 3:47 tho
I was waiting for someone else to see it broo
WORD ! not enough comments about THAT highlight right there lol
Brilliant! Is that a legal catch? And does that mean his team scores points?
SAME! Only came to say that 😂
So nice the finally..drinking and brawling are no longer frowned upon
What does that even mean lol?
HAHAHAHA
@@andrjsjan4231its a joke, implying that the amount of drinking and brawling has remained the same, but the sport has become accepted

Anybody catch homie in the backgrounf at 2:31? Tryna fly away 😂😂😂😂😂😂
It's called stretching
Mhmm you call it stretching I call it signaling to the mother ship to commence the attack 🤣🤣🤣

I was born in Swizerland and am completely swiss but I have never played Hornussen
I love watching all sports. This sport looks incredibly fun and I'd love to play some day.
Have you seen Bowls? I spent two day watching it...
I suspect that making the Hornuss more visible would increase the popularity.
Like ‘Schwingen” another Swiss sport. Now you cannot get tickets anymore since only people who want to be seen and not go to see the competition can afford it or have access to it.
Yeah but it doesn't have to be more popular.
They had a glow in the dark one and played at night for a Red Bull sponsered game

I'm certainly not going to be taking it up but I'm glad to see the Swiss pride in their own culture.
I live in chicago. I would play this if they had a league. This looks awesome.
@jomboymedia needs to cover this asap. like yesterday. this is amazing!
I would absolutely love to play Hornussen, or at least attend a match.
This looks fun! I’d love to play this.
So come to Switzerland😉
This looks like alot of fun to play. How has this game not taken off worldwide?
Requires a bit of space, doesn't it?
@AkiMatti Well, so does golf and golf courses are everywhere.
I ♥️ HORNUSSEN!!! Peter Streiff 🇨🇭
I hope that this comes to U. S. A 🇺🇸
I don't think there’s any chance. Hornussen has had a difficult time in Switzerland for years. Every year there are more players who quit than the youngsters who start.
Why? It doesn't look spectator friendly at all! You can't tell what's happening at all. Pretty boring!

The UK has a similiar game called Knurr and Spel
Legit one of the only unique sports

Let’s play with a black hornuss Swiss have excellent eye sight!
From the looks of things, the game is more of a vehicle for the eating and drinking after the matches. My kind of sport!

no you gotta block / intercept it. that is why you are allowed to throw the schindel /wooden board up in the air in order to do so.
A shot put/hammer throw style windup would be more fun to watch.
I'm trying to play this.
If they're using Pizza Peels now, that means they were using their hands back in medieval times.
Cool!
what happens when you miss? are there strike outs?
Is it dangerous?
It looks a little more entertaining than cricket.
And a LOT more understandable.
I play hockey and golf left sided but I bat in baseball right sided , this sport is confusing my brain
I' thought i am nerdy, and i am playing jugger...
How tf can you find 36 people in Switzerland to play this 😂
Go to both cities and ask everyone who lives there
Seems with that many people it would never land untouched. Weird.
Wait 2 hits per inning and 2 innings per match? That doesn't sound right...no way a 36 player game lasts for only 4 hits
EVERY Player gets two hits per inning. And a match has two innings per team. 🙂
take everything that you whats thi sabout and toos it just go to 2:29 LOL

add a little bag to those paddles
Doesn't golf predate that tho? Like by centuries...
