I just want to say, thank you for showing all your mistakes and missteps. Too many people feed into the perfectionism and mysticism of the arts, so it's good to see someone who isn't afraid to show the full process. ❤
Thank you. I never knew about "Scan the world" seems like a great way to not only experience the art (and use it in games) but it is preserving history. I love that idea.
I always leave resin in the vat, even for extended periods - works great.
One tip - get a silicone spatula for stirring - it won't damage the FEP, which the plastic scraper does.
Looks great! Also, thanks for letting us know about those classic statue scans. I think I will be including a lot for kitbashes and terrain in the future.
Ditto!! Super exciting
It is such a joy (and a bit of envy...) to see you paint and craft. Wonderful job!
Thanks for the info about "old resin". I was also lazy and have had resin sitting in my vat for months. I'll probably pour it back in the bottle and give it a super thorough shake with the stuff left in there, too
I love the idea of using these statues in a DnD game, you can make some big plinths that they stand on and act as imposing terrain then pop them off as they come to life and drop down to the floor for a fight. If your DnD games usually have a lot of scenery, but monsters are always on bases, you'd get a great reaction when you reveal the true danger of the statue garden the players have wandered in to.
Beyond cool. The rules of this game sound so rad and so well thought out. Awesome.
Great stuff, man! I love watching people overcome challenges with ingenuity. Thanks for the upload!
I just want to say that your channel has done so much for me and my miniature modelling and crafting experience. Thank you man, keep up the great work!
I’ve seen the models form Scan the World before, but man, those scaled down are still really detailed. Thanks for showing those off
I've known about your game Idols of Torment for a while, and I have to say
1) I had no idea what the name really was because of your accent. Kept thinking it was Ides of Torment or something. I'm American, I shouldn't have understood, but seeing the cover/logo on screen made me go OH!!
2) Knowing the background of the things you made has stoked more interest in the game than many of the other things I've seen from your channel. So, that's a thing. I wanted to tell you because YT likes it when ppl tell creators things.
Magnets are just a life saver for minis. I use them for transporting, with plastic boxes and magnetic sheets - it must have saved me a fortune and so many headaches taking minis to friends houses.
I'm wondering, with the Lost model with the hand close to her chest, if you couldn't cut a knife blade from a plastic kit and glue it to the hand. Blade side pointing down. Like she's clutching a knife close to her chest.
Might have been easier than carefully removing the arm from the surface of the sculpt.
Good video. My recent gaming problem solution relates to SpaceHulk the game isn’t currently in production so I decided to make a DIY version. The issue I came up with was the minis. 40k scale minis 3D printed are a bit bit and fragile for a board game so I upscaled epic scale terminator models and the chonky factor is just right for a 1” square board game
Love Scan the World!
Question im want to buy a foam cutter im between a Hercules wire cutter or proxxon Hercules doesn't have reviews here on RUclips which im debating on it but it does come with some cool features hope u reply
They are essentially the same thing. Hercules is a clone of the Proxxon.
Those Witchsong minis are amazing :D
It's my first sub on MMF though, can someone explain why, aside from the welcome pack, I got a different mini than the ones shown here? Are those distributed at the end of the month or something?
Wondering the same!
@@yolandemariprain3988 Just to let you know, I did receive those 3 minis yesterday! I did message Witchsong with the same question though, so not sure if this was in response to my question, or it just takes a moment for the monthly minis to be distributed.
A playable faction of heroic lost would be cool if you ever do an expansion.
Magnet on figurine, metal washer on base?
Meh - Likely still would like the magnets to be 'pointing' the same way. If only for future project compatibility.
*ON base - not under it...
I gotta say man, your music choice and presentation in these videos is incredibly good, to say nothing of how great the advice always is. Fantastic work as always!
Glad you’re repping Scan The World here. I’ve used them before for statues and the bow of a ship and was really happy with the results. Can’t recommend them more. Cool project.
If you wanted to move to more custom sculpted statues, it'd be fun/interesting to have horns and halos that tack on cleverly to the statue heads as needed. 🤔
Using the magnets thru the bases was good thinking. That'll be something I'll keep in mind for later. Thanks!!!
Well done! I’ve always wanted to add some classical statuary to my game table. I only wish I had a 3D rig as robust as yours.
Dude, just subbed off the back of this. Ive never played anything outside 40K and have caught a couple of your awesome terrain vids. This was just completely compelling in a different way; methodical, thoughtful and reflective. Like a gentle walk through your process. I’m also intrigued by your game so will check out the kick starter.
Goddamn. Going full ham here as you should. I love the enthusiasm and passion here cuz holy crap.
Dude, big +1 for Scan The World's efforts. I recently stumbled into their work diving down a non-gaming historical rabbit hole and was blown away at what they've made available.
Brilliant work, and the statue scans are a treasure. Really looking forward to getting this. Cheers!
Just fyi, those plastic spatulas can scratch your FEP. Grab yourself some cheapo silicone ones (preferably ones with a right angled edge for the corners) and you'll be golden! I don't clean my vat either, unless there's a fail. Those spatulas' have been a godsend because I don't have to worry about them scratching the FEP and it gets all the settled pigments off the bottom.
Probably a good idea. Will do!
Another idea for you: Make a decorative statue base containing a color changeable LED that will cast an eerie light up over the statue mini according to it's alignment once it awakens
IoT looks like such a sick game!!!! Very clever for the colored bases.
Nice video as always. Resin printing tip - get yourself a silicone spatula for stirring the resin. They work nicely as a squeegee against the FEP to get the settled resin off the film and won't create scratches. I bought some from Walmart that were 4 for $8 and chopped the handle off of one. I previously had a dollar store one but it was more of a crappy soft plastic rather than real silicone.
On it!
I like this idea of magnet swap bases for DnD bad guys and initiative tracking. Just have a bunch of different color bases and put your existing minis on them . Probably wouldn't even have to magnetize everything. Just have some different colored disks to place miniatures on...
I have come back to this video multiple times and stored it in a playlist. The use of Scan The World was really inspiring and opened up a lot of doors for me creatively. Thank you!
Not to take any wind out of your sail but @PeteTheWargamer has a LOT of model modifications videos for 40K that I think would apply . I think his videos would expand on your when it comes to this. Hope this helps the crew!
Surprised you didn't use baking soda + superglue to fill the gaps/smooth out the surface. It takes sanding and scraping really well.
Also it looks like Scan the World is back on track! A few years ago there was some brouhaha because they had altered the sculpts (I think for copyright reasons?). Seems like that got cleared up.
Hey! I see that Wrestler with a boa! It's one of my favorite statues. I'm glad to see Scan The World getting more yet love from you! Excellent work, man!
I really appreciate your skill, and willingness to share. Plus blinging-out games is now one of my favourite things to do! Makes them so much better.
I work in a Catholic Church, so I've actually used the 'Scan the World' stuff to make gifts of people's favorite saints and what not for birthdays and what not. Pick one special to them, Size it up, print it, paint it and they make a unique little gift for the kind of person who often has little saint statues/etc. as part of their decor.
Interesting subject. However, I found the background music to be too loud; it made your voice hard to understand. I found myself straining to understand what you were saying with that loud piano overlay.
Edit: I am watching late at night and trying not to have the volume too loud.
I love the idea of using the Scan the World models for that. As you said, having lots of variations would be kind of annoying, as far as printing and storage goes. So I was thinking, you could print slightly altered statues, with cylindrical holes in their backs, and then have three sets of wings: bones, bat, and bird. The bone wings would be slotted when the models are inactive, bat wings for devils, and bird for angels. My only concern is getting the holes and protrusions coated with something durable so that the resin doesn't start to wear down.
I sometimes take a tiny bit of the resin from the vat on a paintbrush and paint it on to the mini and use a UV flashlight to quickly cure the resin :) It works great, plugs up holes from supports and its quick!!
Awesome video! Out of curiosity, what size magnets are you using for these minis and bases? Thanks!
Check if your slicer supports organic supports and try them. Supposedly much better.
I have been fortunate to have had sessions before these new additions; positive fun. Granted my Hollows have had a 50% win rate, I still had a ton of fun!
Great work, Jeremy. Keep crafting and game, my friend.
Awesome! Love to hear about people playing!
awesome stuff as always! Thanks man!
Is there a place to get the plastic people you use in the video? hobby baseing with sand , pva and tile grout makes it so the little rocks I have found can stay on the bases . It takes a few hours to set and you have to check the edges of the base for drip off but it holds the rocks in real nice . You can use this on card board and the base stays flat . I have also found sticky back cheep linoleum tiles a good source for bases and terrain bases the sticky side down and a piece of felt on the bottom.
Late comment, but a handy magnet tip is to just use the magnets either in the base or in the model, and a small screw or other piece of metal in the other side. Then the polarity doesn't matter.
Dig the idea of the statues comming to life and wrecking your idols!!
bold ^^ I wouldn't have the guts to change the plastic of a painted model.
loved this video. I always learn something from you
Using a larger number of small supports aid in cleaner surface and easier removal.
Thank you for sharing love the channel thank you for sharing
I can’t wait to get ahold of a physical copy
How about a batrep one of these days? I know that’s not your thing, but even if you did a collaboration with another creator who does batreps, it would be cool to see your game in action.
I’ll have a gameplay video and possibly live stream games soonish!
One of these days I'll get a 3d printer.....
I usually add a little alcohol to the caulk so its less solid, and sometimes a little paint too.
Love the fact that you made the lost true scale. It's so hard finding fantasy miniatures that aren't somewhat heroic scale. For future conversions you might want to have a look at some of the Perry historic plastic kits (especially the War of the Roses range). They are dead cheap and the detail is really good. They are fully true scale, so might be a good source for your kitbashes! I'm currently trying to convert my own lost by combining their Afghan infantry with various Northstar bits :)
Hope do see when you are finished!
great stuff, jeremy, love these crafting workflow vids!
i wonder this every single time you put out an Idols of Torment video, but whats the name of the piano music you lay over top? would love to track it down!
It's a bunch of different songs all by Cody High.
If they were just meant to be statues, why worry about fixing the dents from the supports. They could just be worn from the elements.
Something I do to fix 3D printing is take some of the resin from the vat in a water bottle cap or tattoo ink cup, and use an old paint brush to fill in dentin and cure with a UV flashlight, then use a fine sanding stick to clean the area if needed.
Because the pattern of them isn’t very natural looking.
Using the scan the world models is genius
I love the Dante's Inferno style the game has.
Jeremy a way to avoid the polarization issue altogether and use half the magnets, is to use a magnetic metal like steel or zinc washers. They still have a very strong bond and cuts down on cost and magnet frustration immensely. I personally but metal washers on all my bases to weigh them down and make them accept magnets. I then put magnets in all my paint bases and on the odd piece of terrain like a trap that will be triggered by a magnet. Hopefully you or someone else in the comments benefits from this but of knowledge. Much love.
I was thinking the same thing - to put the magnet on the model and just plain metal on the base. This would "solve" the issue of making sure the magnets are all lined up correctly.
That "Idols of Torment" background tapestry is sick! I love it!!
You can get your own 😉

Excellent video as always. What does your hat say? Good to see another metal fan in the hobby community. 🤘

Another great video from the legend!
Good to see you having fun, again.
Wait…you guys are emptying your vats between prints? Mine never comes out and I have zero issues…
Some people do, it’s “recommended”. I don’t.
LOVE Idols of Torment content! Can't wait for my stuff
Soon!
I reckon you're the only youtuber I know where the sponsors are just as interesting as the content. Always a joy to see a new video drop.
Regarding my recent problem solving for gaming, since you asked...(I make computer games for context)...For my current CRPG project, I put all the logic/rules for conflict resolution, skill checks, etc, into a class that can be sub-classed with the rules for any other given system, so I can swap out the rule system used as easily as drag-drop, meaning I don't have to stress about finding the One True Rule System, I can freely experiment, change my mind at a whim, etc, very stress-relieving. 🤓
Are the statues inspired from the book Between Two Fires? Reading that now and there is a certain scene that seems similar in idea!
No, never heard of that one. Sounds cool though.
Cool 👍
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
Hey Jeremy, I am making a gaming mat from the acryilic caulking and a rubber matt like your recent videos. Do you have any tips for reducing the rubber smell?
I have stuck the matt outside in the sunshine for now but boy does it stink!
I will share on insta once complete and link to your account so you can see what I came up with. I am prepping all the parts now and hopefully bash it out on the weekend.
Also magnets are great unless you have a game where the models need to lie down like Blood bowl, then they just chase each other around the board.
I just left mine to air out unrolled for a few days. Might need longer depending on the rubber.
Cheers, that makes sense I was hoping for black magic. Hopefully it's all good by the weekend, I'm looking forward to the project, as always I'm grateful for the way you get me motivated to try new things

@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial okay nice!! Got it 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻 Ehre
“We have lego at home” 😂
The Essential Equipment page on your website could use an update. It doesn't include stuff like the caulking or rubber mats you've been using in many of your recent builds. I was at Home Depot the other day trying to figure out which caulking you'd been using.
Also Dollarama sells rubber tool drawer liners that might work well in place of the rubber mats. I haven't tried it myself, but it looks like a similar material.
Cool cool cool
Simply amazing and fun! Thank you again for your video and channel. You have been a great source of inspiration to start my own channel about my terrain designs for 3D printing by building the courage to actually do it instead of dreaming it.
Can you do a video about the calcing thing you mentioned?
Do you mean caulking? If so I just did a whole series of videos with it.
Hey Jeremy. you and your channel have been a huge inspiration to me. You got me into crafting and really gave my art a well needed shot in the arm. I'm so happy for you that Idols of torment is going live. I hope it exceeds your expectations.
Honestly this is awesome work. And I love the aesthetic. Well done on your problem solving re the angels and demons Statues and the Lost.
Oh man, I love the flag behind you, it's so classically black metal. Maybe you should try to team up with some black/death metal band to do a song for Idols of Torment or whatever, that could be cool.
I can’t wait to get my hands on my kickstarter copy of Idols of Torment and play a game with my best friend.
Did you try Lord of the rings strategy battle game minis they are true 28mm I believe
I don’t have any, but they probably would have worked.
@BlackMagicCraftOfficial fair. I haven't thought about my heroic lost yet, but I have been working on some of the warbands, including some silly ones
Another great video and thank you for the Witchsong code! I love their minis and just saw they have some new ones, so perfect timing!
Saw someone on instagram make a spell tome that opened to create a graveyard themed MTG mat. It'd be really cool to have a bookshelf of themed tomes that open to become relevant terrain
I really appreciate your video. 😊
hope your game takes off
lol, me too!
I came across your channel a while back and binge watched your entire catalogue of videos over about 3 weeks. I love all your content and now I have my 14 year old daughter helping me build dungeon tiles and a set of "new style" columns. We're having a lot of fun spending this time together. Thanks Jeremy!
That’s great!
WHy do peopel say Vallejo so weird xD
Because that's how it's pronounced.
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial It actually starts witha B pronunciation. Ba-ye-ho. More accurately "b aa y EH h oh"
Awesome video
Nice!
So cool, I still can't wait to get my physical game!😊
Not too much longer!
Can some one share the direct link to place in which I can buy those The Lost hard plastic miniatures?
Physical product will not be available to purchase until it has been delivered to our Kickstarter backers.
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial any idea when it can be?
