Building an Exposure Box with 500 UV LEDs

- I built a DIY UV LED light box in a couple of hours to make cyanotypes, a photographic printing process that produces blueprints using sunlight.
I decided to use an industrial stackable container with a lid because it's the cheapest solution in boxes that can withstand chemical products.
Materials (with affiliate links):
- 60x40x12cm Box with Lid (24L capacity).
- 2 x 5050 UV LED Strip amzn.to/2TRV2ID
- Power supply amzn.to/46zeLQy

I hope you enjoy the video!
I'd really appreciate if you consider subscribing to my channel :)
Awesome video, well done, it's great to see someone making this!
Thanks for watching Gavin. It was great to follow all the steps of the process 🙌
Awesome box and awesome video!
Thanks a lot! I'm glad you liked it :)
Hey, I've just built a very similar exposure box but all my prints are super blurry, I don't understand what's going on (never had this issue before with the sun nor with my small face tanning light I use to expose cyanotype) . Do you have any clue why? Any help would be much appreciated :) thanks!
Hey, something similar happened to me when I first put together the box (before making the video). The problem was how weak the LEDs were. I changed the LED strip from the 2835 to the 5050 (standard size of the LEDs) and I saw changes immediately. Also I tried finding an LED strip with a wavelength of 395-405nm (I always found this data in the description of the product). Another thing is, I found better results when I put the paper closer to the light (some books underneath), as in the vertical middle of the box. Those 3 things made a difference for me. Hope it helps!
Thank you so much for sharing your expertise. Please could yo send me a link or let me know where you got the box from, I'm really struggling to find one the right size and black.
It's called eurobox in Europe. I got it from here in case you want to see some specs www.obi.de/aufbewahrungsboxen/eurobox-system-box-vollwand-60-x-40-x-12-cm-schwarz/p/2616464
@@LeandroLinares, thank you for the link.
I hope they deliver to the UK.All the best.
hello, nice video! Is it possible to use it for screen printing?
Nope, that's a completely different technique with no lights involved.
how long are your exposure times for cyanotype?
20 minutes with the box are equivalent to around 5 minutes with the sun
Where did you order the strips?
I got these on amazon! Any 5050 UV led strips with 395mm-405nm wavelength will do the job. Just don't buy the 2835 ones because they are not powerful enough (I tried it, sadly)
did you use 12v or 24v LED strips?
thanks.
These are 12V strips. 2 of them.
@@LeandroLinares thanks!
Yeah, sure! :)
What wavelength are this LED strips?
These are 395-405nm

🌝🌝🌝
Will you be doing any other Alternative Photo printing projects with your UV Box?
Hey, here are some experiments with threads and probably some photography is coming in form of cyanotypes as well blau.cianotipia.com Do you have something in mind?

@@LeandroLinares As you already know, You don't need a darkroom to develop the prints. You will however have to learn how to create a Digital Negative on you computer. PC or Apple. I'm a PC guy but most people do it on Apple and Epson Printers. But! A Guy by the name Peter Mrhar created a newer way to create Digital Negatives "Easy Digital Negative". He claims that it can be done on any computer, Any Printer....And that's a revolution since most people had to spend the money for an Epson Printer. Enough with the Sell.
