    Rune is an extremely dangerous match-up for Djokovic or for that matter any one. Like a prime Djokovic there is no vulnerability in his baseline game, can dictate points at will with his backhand, got the variety to disrupt rhythm and has the Rafa like, pit bull mentality, almost manic like energy when engaging the opponent. I was a die hard Fed fan, but have come around to Novak. If you look at how often players acknowledge good shots from their opponents, Novak has always been gracious. Fed, on the other hand, rarely applauds his opponent, and with Rafa, he concentrates on himself, which is fair enough, but feels like he doesnt even acknowledge the existence of his opponent, let alone if they do something great.

    • @thesoccergod
      @thesoccergod Год назад +3

      @@bigrobsydney I wouldn't say one needs to applaud an opponent's good shot to be considered gracious. Also, when you applaud too often, it loses meaning. Fed rarely applauded...which means, when he did, that it was a serious acknowledgement. Also, Fed likely had different standards for what was an applause-worthy shot. I mean, there was hardly a shot he couldn't play and play beautifully, which isn't something the Djoker can say.
      But when it comes to being a "good loser" at the net, Djoko is easily the best of the three. Fed got better over his career but he never became the hugging kind. I reckon that's because just a handshake was the norm when he joined the tour and because that's not his temperament. (When he did do hugs, it was with players like Thiem, Stan, Rafa - towards the end - and one or two others he was really close to. And even those were more half hugs than full ones.)

    I'm not a huge fan of either player,
    so this is an unbiased opinion...
    The ATP needs to start implementing Hawkeye technology
    for "ALL" tournament play; even if it's for clay; so there are no more wrong calls
    that can potentially sway a match like this one.
    Edit (I do believe this is in the making)

    Holger Rune is a weird fish as some of his decisions and play, are so mindbendingly bold that is looks so spectacular when he pulls it of, but on the other hand when it doesnt work, your just gobsmack why he is taking these chances and not play it safe.
    But from a spectactor view, he is a joy to watch.. his game is very diversed.
    and its mindbending that he in an age of just 20 year, is now a record holder alongside Nadal, Djokovich and Federer as the only players this century to win 7+ matches against top 5 players.
    not bad for a lower ranking dude just 20 years of age, and he just elevate even more today by making an wicked comeback against rank4 Caper Ruud.. after loosing first set 6-7 and down 2-4 in second set and then flip it to 6-4 in second set and 6-2 in third and now ready for final.

    What a BIG win for Holger Rune! He beat Djoko twice in a row. Rune is becoming a monster slayer. He cannot be intimidated by anyone, even by world no. 1 player. I hope he gets ito the final and raise the trophy up. We need young guns to show that they are capable to contiue the legacy built by the Big 3. If Alcaraz or even Sinner cannot make it here, you can!

      @@allboutthemojo far from being slaughtered, it took 3 sets and a rain-break for Rune to get this win, without the rain-break, he most likely would've lost. and that vs an injured, out of form Novak that did 20 unforced errors. even guys who Novak historically dominated would've won vs him today. keep hating on Novak but at least be realistic.

      Nope. The kid has to beat Ruud, or Cerundolo to get to the final. Just want to see him get to the final. He has never beaten Ruud yet, but he was still learning to play last year on the big boys tour. He is rapidly learning how to beat all players now.

    Really disappointed with this loss for Novak... Takes him a really long time to warm up on clay vs great players like Rune, which contributed to how he lost the 1st and the 3rd set after the rain delay. Hope he's still gonna be healthy and good enough to win RG. This is a wake up call that he really needs to raise his level for the BO5.

      C'est toujours le même pb > le COVID l'empêche de jouer plusieurs mois (encore le cas cette année) et il faut à Djokovic plusieurs tournois pour revenir, c'est tout ! Idem l'année dernière ! Tout ça est normal > depuis quand un joueur ne peut jouer et pratiquer son sport > ça fait 2 ans que ce cirque continue ! Il enchaîne OA en étant injouable, il cloue le bec à tout le monde et puis ... plus le droit de jouer ! Aucune surprise donc. En revanche, il a 22 GC auquel aurait du s'ajouter 2 GC en plus sans cette débilité de gestion de soit disant crise sanitaire et d'injections obligatoires. Il est le GOAT et ce n'est ce genre de défaite qui remet quoi que ce soit en cause. Rune et Alcaraz sont l'avenir mais pour laver l'affront, justice serait faite si Djoko pouvait encore en gagner un ou deux (GC).
