Can I make a suggestion - you have a board on the wall with the oils you’ve tested stuck on or written on and rank them from best to worst so we can see what you’ve done and how you found it? A bit like Top Gears car lap times around their track haha. Or even the oils name and a few columns after it where you score it on a few different factors like price, top end lube result, bottom end lube result and burn cleanliness?
Thanks so much for doing this. That's a lot of work, but really good data. Much obliged. As noted on the other video, VP Racing 40:1 is what I've been running since I quit using Stihl Ultra. I thought VP was a good choice, but this really eases my mind. Thanks again!
32 to 1 in our two stroke engine testing, and subsequent teardown and measurement, was about the best all around option of wear rates in modest RPM, non race engines. 50HP Kart engines required at least 24 to 1 to prevent piston scuffing. A note here, I notice some piston scuffing on many of these videos. That is wear.
Yes. There's been some wear, especially at the manufacturers recommendation of 50:1. I believe that's part of what I'm trying to get across. 40:1 with a high quality oil seems to be the bare minimum. Honda HP2 and Saber have performed the best to date regarding clean burning and exceptional lubrication in the crankcase.
Pumping out the videos! Looks pretty darn decent to me👍🏻 I know, only one tank but impressively clean! good to hear the hype isn't just because it has a VP logo on the bottle.
Very good three part series, I've been running 40:1 Saber for years and no complaints. Would you consider the subject of how clean these oils burn on a longer term basis...if that's possible. Thank you for what your doing for us Rich👍
I've got two customers that run Saber at 40:1 and it still burns as clean as whistle. I did some performance on a 395xp after he ran it for several months and there was only a whisper of carbon. It's one of the best oils money can buy.
Extra oil 🛢 is a lil extra insurance for the bottom end 👍 Spark plugs are cheap... compared to needing a whole new saw. Ran 40:1 as a kid 30years ago, probably go back to it. Thanks for the break down 👍😎
Good information on the oil dosage shortage in some manufactures oil containers and the benefits of the 40:1 ratio. I can also attest to how well the loctite anaerobic's work. I used the #638 compound on a bearing that was a slip fit into a Dolmar 5100s pto side case. Saw has had no issues since.
Yeah we don't have hickory in my neck of the woods but I've seen it on a few of these channels that the chain appears to be dull with just dust flying but the chains are sharp and no big chips... Great vid 👍👍
So glad you did this VP test . This oil is available at Wally at a decent price . I am running Pond water at 40:1 with 87oct pump 10% alcohol with Rislone 4747 Hy-per Fuel Octane Booster . I have 2 more bottles of Stihl oil left and then will go to VP because of the FD rating . I always run pump 87oct with the booster and have great results . Running MS 250 Br600 Stihl Vacuum and brush cutter . Can't wait to dump Stihl oil for VP or Saber at 40:1 .
hey i've been useing the gallons already mixed in the 40;1 its been flawless clean burning and after running saw full throttle 95% take exhaust off piston coated with oil this is some good stuff been running vp gas in 2 stroke motor cycles for years c12 is the best all around fuel now they have combined a good oil with there gas these guys do alot of testing
Out of curiosity, have you already tested AMSOIL Interceptor? I think it is also FD rated as well, I know you did Dominator from one of your previous videos. I bought a quart of both over the summer to give a try since finding SABER locally is like looking for hens teeth. But I never got the chance to fell any trees this summer. Not that it relates but I have a couple of vintage air cooled 2-stroke dirt bikes and I want to stick with one oil between those and all of my saws once the bikes are rebuilt and rideable. :)
@@richardflagg3084 Awesome, thanks a lot! It'll be nice to see. I don't know if you have a Runnings store in your area but that's where I bought mine. :)
Numb question: 92 octane w/ no alcohol, or 110 octane race gas with Lead? For sustained (15 minutes to an hour) operation at 5500-6000 rpm torque peak, with ~ 28 to 1 oil (currently Maxima K2; open to other bike type oils.)
I have been using this stuff and recommending to people for a while now. I have a small repair / resale business. I put it in all my 2strokes that I sell. I have been mixing 45-1 ind no problems at all even when it was 105° at 10:30 in the morning In south Texas not one clingy bore or piston yet and you know it hot when you can see the heatwaves coming off the saw. It reasonably priced and effective.
Thanks for this, very cool and have convinced me to run this oil in my 2 stroke 49cc scooter. The seller tells me to use 32:1 and told me if I use 40:1 I would burn up the motor very quick, is this true?
So should I buy a 11281309 and a HD9A for my ms460? It's just got a bark box and timing advance right now but I'm thinking about getting it ported. I went from the factory 68 jet to a 70 too.
VP mix oil is good stuff man. Been running it (40:1) in several units for a few years now. Torn a few down after several months/years, didn’t see anything I didn’t like.
I've been using VP for the last year or so at 45:1. Ill probably go ahead and do 40:1 from here on out! Thanks for the video sir i greatly appreciate it and your time! Looks like ill stick with the vp because its cheaper than red armor. Thanks again!
That lil bump on the exhaust side of that donor cylinder is to help with easy starting a high compression saw. Seen a rip saw video they did one on a 500i cylinder they were porting.
I believe that's what the decomp button is for? Yes, that is an old school way to help with compression. I don't believe it has a place in performance work saws.
@@richardflagg3084 Exactly, my 066 was my falling saw, had an 046 for bucking back in 99, but after porting one a few years ago, it would have been a great falling saw too 😜
50 to I've noticed is not as good gets hotter.on saws.around here and stihl dealers sell vp.but only 50 t 1 in gallons 40bto 1 is small bottles .and it's high. As a giraffes a$$....been running red armor and little vp. On big saws and got some maxima formula 2k..with ratio rite.had someone get me some husqvarna mixed oil xp for gift so tried few gal ll oms of that.once get caught up going to order Saber
I've not looked in loads of bottom ends or oils, but Aspen 2 has the most perfect film I've seen yet. Glistening with uniform slipperyness.
Can’t thank you enough for taking the time to make all these videos for us Richard! 🥳
I’ve always used 50/1 mix but I think you have convinced me on the 40/1 mix. Thanks

Great idea!
Nice work Richard totally agree about the fuel ratio 40:1
Thank you!
@@richardflagg3084 33:1 is ok ?
It’s easier to mix in quart quantities - an ounce to the quart = 32 to 1.

I been using red armor, I may switch over to VP and see how my saw like it. Thanks for the education!
Been using this stuff a few years at 40, nothing has blown up yet!!!
Thank for the r&d….
Hi Richard, I'm just wondering if you have any plans on testing the Aspen 2 oil in chainsaws? Thanks so much for all that you do.

It’s simpler to mix in smaller amounts of fuel, too.

Still $9.98 at Wally World for a 1 pint bottle, but I can buy 1 quart bottles of Amsoil Saber from a local power equipment shop for $17.
