  • Exploring some of the unique areas in the deep south, I came upon a place called LaGrange, Georgia. With crime 116% over the national average, and a poverty level of over 25%, this place has seen better days. Population is around 33k, but it certainly didn't feel like it as I barely seen anyone. I drove through some of the rougher area's to see what it looked like, here's what I saw...

This looks like a lovely place to live. A lot of the abandoned houses look like they don’t need much work to get them inhabited again.

Many of these old houses look better than the 100 year old house I rented in East Point, Ga in my 20's. Just a sleepy little west Georgia town.

Lagrange Georgia, why does that name ring a tone? Now I remember,. Remington Arms is moving their corporate headquarters there from ilion,New York.Lagrange has a friendly business climate. Remington is investing $100 million and 800 new job creation....

Lots of really nice apartment buildings. Much untapped potential in the housing. So many could be fixed up and look lovely again.

You should have been there 30 years ago; this looks like Yuppie town compared to how it looked back then. The What Happened Here is that manufacturing jobs came to what was a rundown farm area and brought prosperity compared to welfare.

Big trailer. Window units don't do much.

The obviously government provided housing looks nice. As for the rest, not as bad as Detroit and most of it appears to be still occupied.
