    What I love about this style of review is that it's like you've gone over to your techie mate's house and asked him for an opinion, and he's been testing that exact stuff this week. An informal, honest appraisal without the over-produced gloss. This review comes across as very sincere and trustworthy - keep up the great work :o)

      Yep, hands down the most informative Eero 6/Extender/6 Pro review I’ve found. Really showed me the difference between the different configs (wired and wireless) and different hardware options (and even answered the question as to whether a router acting as a wireless AP can hook up to other devices via Ethernet, and their corresponding speeds depending on config).

    We upgraded from eero pro mesh system to the new eero 6 pro mesh system. It is a rock solid router. Trouble free and we have a lot of wireless devices (76 in total) on the system. We also use the $99 per year subscription and it is worth the peace of mind. We have AT&T Gigabyte 1000 plan and we are getting 1Gb down and 979 up. Awesome.

      Hey Scott! I've been waiting for someone like you forever! I've finally found someone that has a LOT of devices connected in their home! I'm right around 75 right now, and absolutely HATE my Comcast gateway that limits me to 32 devices on the 2.4GHz network, and 32 devices on the 5GHz network. I've got a Netgear extender helping me with the other devices. About to try Comcast's latest WiFi 6 gateway tomorrow, but based on my research, I'm sure I'm going back to owning my own equipment again. Just worried about going over my 1TB monthly limit. So what exactly do you suggest/recommend I go with? Thanks!

    • @scottdickerson6734
      @scottdickerson6734 3 года назад +1

      @@P0LSKI Well we have no Dara limits with AT&T as when we moved in three years ago the only option was AT&T. About year ago Comcast came into our neighborhood too but I have remained with AT&T. As for recommendations, we have eero pro 6 mesh system and based on my research this is the best you can get. We have main eero hard wired to AT&T modem/router with other two eero pro 6 wirelessly set up on second floor. I think you will be pleased with this system and never look back.

    • @P0LSKI
      @P0LSKI 3 года назад

      Thank you, Scott. The one thing that's holding me back is the Eero's inability to split the networks into separate 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks. Setting up IOT devices limited to 2.4GHz only is a nightmare too, Have you found the band steering to be effective? Meaning, do your devices STAY on the 5GHz bands? I can't have my Galaxy Note keep bouncing back and forth from the 2.4GHz to the 5GHz bands. I really wish you could create multiple networks! Thanks again!

    Excellently presented review, you earned a sub out of me! You've really helped me narrow down my choices.
    After watching this video, I'm currently debating between the Eero Pro 6 three pack and the Orbi of similar specs. I'm running Utopia fiber and paying for gigabyte speed, do you know if the Eero Pro 6 can achieve near gigabyte speeds over wifi, or am I going to be overpaying for service unless I LAN into most of my devices?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 года назад

      Thanks! I appreciate it! Unfortunately the fastest device I have is not fast enough to get to gigabit lan. Waiting for the new macbook pro 16". But from the other comments say they pretty much got a gig even accessing the internet so I'm sure you can get that wirelessly on your lan. I do get that easily via ethernet also, that's something I have tested.

    The second 5GHz band is for backhaul connectivity between access points only. This ensures that the backhaul connection doesn't share bandwidth with client devices on the 5GHz band. The Netgear Orbi has 3 bands as well and maintains internet speeds across all access points.

    Great review. I have been stressing over buying a mesh system and which one for a few weeks now so this is perfect timing. One thing I have not narrowed in on is I live in a larger sq ft house with 2 floors and am accumulating a growing number of wifi/smart devices but I live out in the country with radio tower internet (15mbps). Would the eero 6 pro still be beneficial due to size of house and # of devices even though it may be overkill on the incoming internet speed side?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 года назад +2

      Thanks! Well regardless of speed, the eero Pro 6 has farther reach compared to the eero 6. So in my case when I went outside to the point the eero 6 wasn't working, the eero Pro 6 still was working and getting me decent speeds, they obviously are both using the same internet in my case. So the eero Pro 6 is going to provide you with more range. Another thing to note, the 15mbps you mentioned is just from your house to the internet, I'm not sure if your streaming videos or copying files locally on your network where it's on a network attached storage. Those will also benefit from the stronger range and speed of the eero Pro 6. Off topic, whenever SpaceX actually releases their satellite internet to the general public, then that might be something you can look into as well, can get much faster speeds with that.
      The only thing I see in your case that will make the eero Pro 6 worth it is the fact you said you have a larger home. As a result you may get away with using one less eero if you went with the eero Pro. As an example, let's say you had to use 4 eero 6's to cover your entire place, you may get away with just using 3 eero Pro 6's to cover that same distance.
      The reason I mentioned the things above is to say that the eero Pro 6 still has advantages over the eero 6 regardless of your internet speeds. Do you need the eero Pro 6, I don't think so, I think the eero 6 will work just fine but I do like to layout advantages and different scenarios to help make decisions easier. Personally I'm just very impressed with the WiFi range and speeds of the eero Pro 6. Granted I will be testing the Netgear Orbi shortly so my opinion might change once I compare that to the eero Pro 6.

I have a Eero Pro 6 but been having some WIFI issues with it lately where my Alexas are hanging when playing spotify randomly. Since Eero lacks modifiying settings, i was thinking of going back to a TP Link or the Netgear Nighthawk series for more customization in the console. I will say i dont like that Eero doesnt let you create your own separate 2.4 and 5 ghz channel, basically bc they think your too dumb to do it lol.

    Great video! In your video, when you did the ethernet backhaul, how close were the two routers? Were the routers right next to each other connected with an ethernet cable, or was the second router far away in another room, and you connected an ethernet cable to the wall (I'm not sure how ethernet backhaul works logistically)?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 года назад

      Routers are about 40 ft apart. Logistically when it's ethernet backhaul, distance doesn't matter too much so as long as it's not too far (less than 100 meters). Realistically you want to out them far enough apart to cover your home.

      @@jasonfooks5660 It depends on how much interference there is, if there is nothing between the 100ft (edge of house to edge of office, no other walls, no other interference). Then you might be ok with just two. If it doesn't work out well because of the range, you can try the TP Link X68 or the ASUS XT8, those did better during my range tests however range varies from place to place and the eero Pro 6 is a solid mesh wifi.

    Can you answer me a question?! I bought the RING ALARM PRO with eero 6 built in so it needs to be used as my gateway. it will be use in the main floor.
    Do you think it will help if I connect another 2 eero 6 PRO to the router on two other different floors or do you think it's a waste because I have to use a simple eero 6 (not PRO) as my gateway?

      @gamerjc3877 3 года назад

      I've been thinking about the option #4 where you use the Eero pro 6 and the router is connected wirelessly to the access point and you hook up an ethernet cable to a device from the access point and got max speeds. When you take that data vs. the download speeds without using ethernet the only thing makes any sense is the Tri-Band ability of the Pro6. You mentioned it only really matters if you hook up a lot of devices to your network. I'm thinking the Eero Pro 6 is using one of the 5GHz bands to handle the communication between the router and access point and then you have the other 5GHz and 2.4GHz completely free to handle traffic. It's the only thing that could explain those max speeds you got. Is there a way to test or prove that? Thanks.

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 года назад

      Yes that seems to be the case. The easy way of proving it is you take an eero 6 in Option #4 and see that the speeds drop in the same configuration by about half. It's funny cause I've always believed that triband only helps with lots of devices (which is true it does help with that) but seeing these speeds in Option #4 shows that it also helps with that as well.

    A fantastic review, thank you so much. I finally understood the difference between eero and eero pro. I have been reading the comments but didn‘t find my specific challenge. Our walls are up to 20 inches thick. Potentially a strong wireless will better get through them. But a cable connection might be the better alternative. Our farmhouse is more than 200 years old, many of the walls have visible stone structure. Installing cables is not my first choice at all. I would prefer wireless. But do you think we have a chance to overcome this challenge with (obviously) the Pro eero?

    Question: I have a house in a rural area. We want to PS4 & Xbox. The only ISP we can get is "TMobile 5G Home Wifi Service". It is 50 Mbps down & 20 Mbps up. So I have two accounts of the same identical ISP service. I connect them using a load balancing router, to give me one internet connection to feed to the eero Pro 6. It doesn't really gice you 100 Mbps down, but it does balance requests to the lesser used ISP account. Does this sound like the best I can do to get more speed?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 года назад

      I've never used a load balancing router. Yours is a special situation where your load balancing router probably has to remain and be in charge. I haven't tried this with the eero but you probably have to run the eero in bridge mode to avoid creating a second network. Netgear Orbi RBK752 has something similar where you run it in AP mode. That way your load balancing router remains in charge and the eero just expands it.

      I'm generally very impressed with the new eero 6+ considering the price. I will be releasing a video comparing that to the eero pro 6e in the near future. eero Pro 6 has also been a good mesh system but price per performance the 6+ is a better deal. Since your house is large, I would normally recommend something beefier like the ASUS ET8 and while I'm at it, ASUS ET12 Pro would do wonders for you. • @landpet
      @landpet  3 года назад +1

      No worries. Yes I did. With wired backhaul it's pretty much the same as two eero Pro 6's except with slightly less range when you start walking away from the eero 6. On wireless backhaul, an eero Pro 6 and an eero 6 work better than an eero 6 and another eero 6, but not by much. eero Pro 6 with another eero Pro 6 definitely works better than an eero Pro 6 and an eero 6. Reason is that the eero Pro 6 is a triband where the eero 6 is a dual band, so the eero 6 is missing an entire band that would speed it up in wireless backhaul. Hope this makes sense.

    Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I am in the very early planning stages for my home network: When you used the ethernet backhaul option, did it still function seamlessly in that you didn't have to physically change connections on your device to connect to each router?

    • @landpet

      Not a dumb question. Yes, all of the options I refer to function the same for all connected devices in addition it's all automatic in the app meaning I don't have to change any settings, eero detects and does everything for me. The only difference of the options I discuss is the change in wifi coverage and wifi speeds.

I only have 1 Eero Pro 6 and was wondering if the change in the speeds comes from the router sending the signal or the access point receiving it (or even a combination of both) just to see if I could save some money buying a couple Eero 6's instead of getting just one more Eero Pro 6.

    • @landpet

    Will the speed drop even more if a 3rd Eero Pro 6 is added? In option #4 for example. Thanks for the great video!

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 года назад +1

      It depends on the placement of the 3rd eero pro 6. If the main eero pro 6 router (connected to the modem) is centrally placed where the other two eero's are on the opposite ends of the home and they directly connect to the main eero pro 6 router, then no, the speed drop or lack there of (depending on your internet speeds) will be consistent.
      I'm going to try an illustrate this a bit,
      if you place the main eero router (connected to your modem) on the left side of the house, and one more centrally and one more on the right side of your house. Then the third eero should be slower because now it has to hop through the middle eero to then get to the main eero. The more hopping points you create, the slower it should be so always try to place the main router in the center (if possible).
      I explain the entire home network here, but check it out around here so you can see what I'm talking about: ruclips.net/video/90BFxA2yEUY/видео.html

    Since you've tested so many designs, I hoped you tested something like these scenarios. All are eero and all connections are wireless. Currently I have router 6 to extender 6. It does not reach far enough. I'm comparing three options.
    Option 1: router 6 to ext6 to ext6.
    Option 2: router pro6 to ext-pro6 to ext6.
    Option 3: router pro6 to ext6 to ext6.
    I figure option 2 will be the fastest, will there be a significant difference in speed at the last node? In other words what will make sense when mixing 6 and pro6 hardware given price difference. thanks!

    • @landpet
      @landpet  Год назад

      Thanks! If you’re going from pro 6 to 6 to another 6 via wireless backhaul, the speeds will be slowest at the last node since dual bands are typically not as fast for wireless backhaul. Now if you can centrally place the pro 6 where the other two eero 6 can connect to the pro 6, then it won’t slow down as much (still will be slower though)

    Just curious, because I'm considering buying 2 routers for my home, rather than using an extender, could you use a pro 6 as the main gateway, then using option 3 connect a regular eero 6 router? Would there be any advantages to a set up like that, or disadvantages?

    • @landpet

      Yes that would be fine, if you do use ethernet backhaul then it will be fairly similar to an eero Pro 6 + eero Pro 6 setup. The only disadvantage is that the eero Pro 6 (compared to the eero 6 router) still covers more distance but anyone within the vicinity they both work great. The big difference between 2 eero Pro 6 routers and 1 eero Pro 6 + eero 6 router is when you go with Option #4. With Option #3, the ethernet makes up for a lot of the differences.

      Thanks! So they both advertise 75+ connected devices, granted this could include Ethernet devices as well but it sort of implies wireless devices. Not all WiFi devices are equal, you can have a smart power switch that doesn’t take much bandwidth or you can have a laptop that someone is using that takes a lot more. It also depends how fast your internet is cause that’s ultimately being shared as well. It’s tough to put a number on it cause you can have 10 heavy laptop users or have a house with 50 devices that are just secondary devices not using much bandwidth. If I had to put a number on it, I would say a rough estimate of over 30 devices with a combination being laptops, tablets, smart plugs, cameras, etc. To be more accurate I would say if your household is starting to notice slowdowns with the current number you are using on a dual band router, then it’s time to go tri band otherwise you can stick to dual band.

    For a 2800 square foot home, how many of these pods would be ideal? Also, with my modem being in the room furthest from my garage on the first floor, where would be the ideal places to position each pod for the best wifi signals in my garage and man cave above my garage.

      Place each pod about 40 to 50 ft away, the app will tell you if it’s a good or bad placement. 2 eero Pro 6 should be ok, 3 eero pro 6 would definitely cover you everywhere. Every home is different, so definitely need at least 2 eero Pro 6.

      Thanks! For laptops, I prefer the MacBooks. Actually waiting for the MacBook Pro to come out with the new M1X or M2 chip. Main reason is that they’re fast, battery lasts for a very long time and they look nice. For desktops, I prefer building my own and running Windows
