Wishing Turkey all the best! anytime I see nations doing smart mega projects I get happy especially those who are trapped in the middle income sphere. Turkey has a lot of potential to break that marble ceiling and TRULY develop on Western Europe's level. It's just stuck at the moment and will need significant development projects to get it there. It's probably the nation that has the most potential to do it and finally enter the economic GDP per capita giants of Western Europe, Gulf States and East Asia (namely South Korea and Japan). If that happens it will trickle down and impact the whole Eastern European and Middle Eastern region! Here's to hoping this eventually happens!

no. Canal Istanbul is the worst project in Turkey. Because the Istanbul Canal is causing Istanbul to become an island. And this is causing the people on the island to get stuck on the island. Because as you know, the bridges are toll booths. Instead of paying at the toll booths, people would rather go to Tekirdağ, Europe for free. Also, the Istanbul Canal is causing the demolition of most people's houses. Yes, new houses will be built. But they will sell them for money, not for free. Istanbul Airport is also unnecessary. While there is Ataturk Airport - and it is very close to everyone - it is unnecessary to demolish Ataturk Airport and make a park. They are also destroying forests. So is the Northern Marmara Highway. They are hostile to Ataturk. Even if it was a foreigner, it would be fine. But it is surprising that the President of Turkey is also hostile to Ataturk.

It seems like a good idea, but that raises a few questions:
Environmentalists have a problem with the new strait, but why is that not a problem with the Bosporus strait to begin with?
How will an expensive new strait not suffer the same problems of the Bosporus?
The best option seems to be to actually clean up and update the Bosporus to handle more traffic and keep it clean. The new project clearly will only have a fraction of the capacity of the existing canal just based on its width.

1:38 Yes, Christopher Columbus, an Italian explorer sailing under the Spanish flag, set out in 1492 intending to find a western sea route to Asia, particularly India, to access its riches such as spices and gold. However, instead of reaching Asia, he stumbled upon the Americas.
Columbus mistakenly believed he had reached islands near Asia and referred to the native people he encountered as "Indians." He made four voyages to the Americas but never realized he had discovered a new continent, which was later named "America" after the explorer Amerigo Vespucci, who recognized it as a distinct landmass.

The total cost of the project is $15 billion. The impact of Canal Istanbul on the total water reserve is at a level of 3%. When the Melen Dam Project, which is the main source to carry Istanbul into the future, is completed, it will provide 1.1 billion cubic meters of water annually to Istanbul. This amount is 34 times the difference caused by Canal Istanbul. The Melen Project will double Istanbul’s water supply.
He didn’t imprison the “troublemakers.” You have no idea about the subject. And, Most of the information in the video is biased and incorrect.
To date, 73 lives have been lost in accidents in the Bosphorus, and there has been $1.3 billion worth of damage. The project involved 200 academics, 7 universities, and 33 scientific disciplines. A hundred years ago, the annual number of ship passages was 3-4 thousand, but today it has increased to 45-50 thousand. And it will be 78000 in 15 years…
Taking seasonal changes into account, simulations and calculations have been conducted for the period before and after Canal Istanbul. These analyses have determined that at no time of the year does the dissolved oxygen level necessary for aquatic life decrease or change due to Canal Istanbul. Etc…
Calling someone who has been elected by the majority through 12 elections in 23 years a “dictator” is highly disrespectful. As for the U.S. and Europe, we have seen how “democratic” and “libertarian” they are in places like Palestine,Iraq etc.. Neither Turkiye nor the Turkish people have any imperial ambitions. This is a completely false perception. The instability in the Middle East is a result of the artificial borders drawn after the fall of the Ottoman Empire, which benefits the West. The West consistently uses its intelligence agencies to stage coups, something U.S. officials have openly admitted.
In Turkiye, the parliament building was bombed with rockets from aircrafts. And 252 citizen killed by the coup plotters that day. When the people opposed the coup and it failed, most of the coup plotters fled abroad and are now working to create negative perceptions about the country from there.
After the U.S. elections, we saw what happened to Trump supporters who merely entered the Capitol without permission.

This project is one way for Erdogan to transfer Turkiye's limited capital to his own businessmen - who are known as 'gang of five'. In Turkiye, such projects are under state guaranty for decades of constant payments to them. Bypassing the montreux agreement is only to lure public for not opposing. Canal will destroy existing infrastructure, dams, rivers, fresh water resources. And they plan to build tens of thousands of buildings around the new canal. Istanbul is already overpopulated with nearly 20 million people, and this project will reduce nature with cement and probably extra few million people around it just to transfer money to their people for the next 40-50 years.

Some aspects of your explanation are incorrect, particularly regarding the so-called "ex-military letter," and there is an apparent bias in favor of President Erdoğan. To clarify, Türkiye has never officially declared any ambition to resurrect the Ottoman Empire. Such claims are often misinterpretations or exaggerations propagated by external observers or critics.
Instead, Türkiye has positioned itself as a nation that embraces its deep historical and cultural roots while adapting to the realities of the modern world. Far from seeking to replicate the Ottoman past, Türkiye is focused on building a future that harmonizes its heritage with contemporary values.
If circumstances demand, Türkiye has the potential to emerge as a beacon of humanity, exemplifying a system greater than that of the Ottomans or any other historical precedent. Its vision is not confined to past glories but aspires to inspire the world with a unique model of leadership, innovation, and unity.
The metaphorical expression "Vatan ne Türkiye’dir Türklere, ne Türkistan; Vatan, büyük ve müebbet bir ülkedir: Turan" beautifully encapsulates this vision. It reflects the timeless and universal spirit of the Turkic people-a unity that transcends geography and historical epochs, embodying an eternal mission of greatness and global contribution.

Exactly, a leader who eats the positive praise supported by western collective press since recently. Fellow Turkish citizens are not aware about the cost, yet and near, far future. By past events it can't be regarded as good for Turkish people because the collective western wouldn't support anybody not acting in accordce to their agenda, for sure! Additionally, collective western knows also that Turkish opposition will not support their agenda like Redzep Tayyip Erdogan have to do yet. Thus, why should collective western make their situation worse than as it is yet in Turkey. Hence, they will give their state holder in Turkey the money in that amount 50-100 bn $ annually so that their puppets can play with and mark the strong man there, not saying Sultan in Turkey. This is cheaper than as they would occupy and serve the country by themself. Just imagine, for the current war in eastern Europe collective west have spent until now 400 bn $ in two years. So, at least it is much cheaper for collective west instead somehow invade a country physically or financially. Another remark of mine is that Saddam was once the nice guy of the collective west unless he got him to invade Quwait, which he did, and suddenly collective west started to blame saddam and all the story thereafter we know, I think. Possibly Redzep Tayyip Erdogan is going to share the same destiny with him soon or later if he is still alive. To be honest I think collective west don't want him to survive at all because he knows to much about all the events western counties are responsible for in middle east. Any way it looks not good from fellow Turkish citizen point view. But they are lulled by billions of Dollars support they or their leadership will receive as far they do act according to the agenda of collective west. For sure it will cost Turkey on long term not only the unity, but this is another story then.

This project will boost Turkey's economy and has nothing to do with the Montreux Treaty. Turkey is a NATO member and acts in its own and NATO's interests. Ships often wait months to pass the Bosphorus due to traffic; shipping companies would gladly pay higher tolls for faster passage. It's a win-win. Environmental concerns? Sure, but they're overblown. Rare birds? I've been to Küçükçekmece Lagoon-it's surrounded by ugly factories and buildings, hardly a haven for rare birds. Give me a break.
So you're saying a tanker carrying oil or other hazardous materials crashing in the channel and causing a massive spill isn’t a danger? It’s happened before, you know. The channel is like a windy highway for tankers, and accidents are inevitable. Slow or fast, when a massive tanker crashes, it’s an environmental disaster no matter how you spin it.
