First off thank you so much for all your hard work an passion that u put into your videos..very much appreciated. My question is when practicing on just one drum for all my tones and basic rhythms do i use the conga or the tumbao ?
Omar Robles thank you!!!! I would practice that on a Conga... if you want to challenge yourself even more then try it on a Tumba... the Tumba is a bit harder to get basic tones out but it’s definitely worth practicing it when trying to challenge oneself
Thanks brother! And Amen to "By his grace, For His glory"! I play 1 conga at my church in DC a couple of Sundays a month. I often slide my tumbao, songo, and variations over a beat so the slap is on 3. The music director likes the slap on the down beat. I need help with 3/4 gospel w 1 (preferred) or 2 congas. If that fits your flow then your help whenever it works would be appreciated! Grace & Peace!
Nice breakdown of a tumbao I remember seeing in an old Geo video describing the evolution of the tumbao. Having been introduced to these beautiful rhythms as a salsa dancer, I see a lot of truth in your analogy to dancing. Patato, after all, started as a dancer. It's just similar patterns with your hands instead of your feet. BTW, I love the shot of the pinkies starting at 6:07 or so! I can tell you're working into the wee hours. So appreciate your efforts. I find myself looking forward to all your vids and so hope you don't burn out. Nobody out there puts as much love and effort into what you do. A suggestion: how about a quick video showing how you integrate the metronome into your conga practice? I'm curious to see how how you've done that.
Awesome, I'm a mess trying to do this one, that means it's exactly what I need to practice, I think it'll get a little bit more than 10 minutes :) Thanks!
