They say yeast and soda. Baking soda is the cause of that hole, yeast only be there to help it react. Because baking soda need something sour, milk or egg to have a kicked reaction. But the company will keep telling you this "yeast and fermentation secret" so nobody can't recreate perfect crumpets. Just rest the dogh a few hours and add baking soda 15 minutes before cooking, it's always create nice holes for me, no yeast, only water, flour and sugar.
This was my first experience of tyrophobia. I used to tell my mum when I was a kid i didn't like the way crumpets looked. My mum just thought i was being weird lol

Here in the USA we don’t make our own crumpets but buy a ready-made approximation full of preservatives, with expiration dates long into the future. They’re called English muffins and are probably rather like the factory crumpets presented here: I don’t know how close the resemblance is because I’ve never had them on visits to England.
@Jannie Kirsten Thanks! I know what you are talking about and can see it in my mind. The pancake analogy is a good one. I would like to try one. Thing I love about EM's is the goodies sink into those little holes.

You guys are amazing.

yeast will add flavor, even a short ferment of 30 min
Crumpets are made for salted butter and marmite 👌💚
just the salted butter.
Honey on crumpets is the best 👍👍
Butter and golden syrup 🤤
I like mine with Marmite
🤢🤮

Are you diagnosed with Trypophobia?
did you self diagnose or did you talk to a doctor?

To hold more butter and jam.
As long as you don't run out of holes, you should be OK.
If you make them watery and bigger, they are pancakes , the holes are air bubbles.
I thought it has baking powder to do that not yeast.

Matt was humiliated and kept redoing the recipe. Then desperately had to prove to his love that he can do it.
To all you Americans: Crumpets and English Muffins are NOT the same thing.
Filled with nooks and crannies to hold the butter. Duh

You know a lot of the things we think of as chemicals in the food are chemical names of common everyday ingredients.
the only similarity between crumpets and english muffins is that they are both baked on a griddle, but they are totally different otherwise.
the holes in bread are also made by a machine.
Door says ear protection must be worn, these two without anything
Who are they calling for answers n the beginning of their videos? Idiots Inc?
We call them “English Muffins “ and the holes are yeast gas bubbles in dough !
Crumpets and EMs aren't the same thing, though. Crumpets taste funny
They sort of look like EM's. I LOVE EM's. I wonder what the taste differences are. I have never found Crumpets in the States.

@Jannie Kirsten an English muffin is exactly what McDs uses. But crumpets taste different

No you're not. I self-identify as first and if you disagree you are first a phobic

They're called English muffins in the USA.
This. Until today, I had no idea what a crumpet was.
Different things lol we have both, but crumpets are more chewy, less bready and have holes
@@winlose5590 I saw they were a bit different, but figured we'd messed it up with some Americanization. Thanks!
English muffins were definitely inspired by crumpets, but in their modern form they're pretty different.
English muffins are denser than crumpets
trypophobia beware
