    The anonymity isn’t that big of a deal for me, I went a whole year (casually) listening to Sleep Token without even knowing they wore masks or anything. It’s their music that I absolutely love. I primarily listen to prog Djenty Metalcore but I get Pored of that and love the dark atmospheric R&B/Pop sound they bring. It’s different enough, but almost familiar enough to tickle my ears in the right way.

      Same here I get pretty bored sometimes with metal. But sleep token brings Metal and other genres and all in one song. It's a breath of fresh air. I never find myself bored listening to them.

    I saw sleep token live a few days ago and I've been hooked since. I knew about them and how metal dudes roast them so I stayed away. But boi was I wrong. They're incredible live and blew everyone out of the water at louder than life festival. They had these back up choir. It was incredible. They were also heavy as hell and I did feel nu metal vibes with some songs. A lot of energy. I don't ever wanna see yall compare them to imaging dragons ever again.

    “Tastefully busy” really describes ST’s music. There’s a lot going on but it’s not too much at once. A 6-9 minute song is really like having a 2-3 part song set placed in one track where there isn’t really any down time between them.

    Just saw Sleep Token at The Showbox in Seattle. Incredible show. It reminds us that their are levels to musicianship and performance. Their drummer is phenomenal and their bass tones are brutal af. Vessel has a very connectable voice, meaning it’s easy to understand his emotion towards what he’s singing.

  • @thehumandrive

    Sleep token is the full package. Visually intriguing to say the least but the reason they have reached the level they have with no limit in sight is because the proof is in their body of work. Undeniably well crafted and executed songs. Thats what music today has been missing, the undeniable force that is good music. They will stand the test of time because the vision Vessel and the lads have brought forth. I haven't been this obsessed with a band since high school and its because the music is just that good it keeps you coming back. Even with my own work, its an inspiration to keep moving forward and keep pushing myself to create better music and grow as an artist. WORSHIP.

    Before 2023, Sleep Token was a steady rising band. Then after The Summoning broke out, a whole demographic of people became "top music critics" finding every reason to shit on ST 🤣. Minus other musicians 🤣.
    "They're mid, they're overproduced, emo imagine dragons, its sheepish tik-tok hype, why cant they pick a genre" Y'all are too much 🤣
    After years of genre locked bands, butt rock, and genre phases. Its a fresh take to surface on the alternative music scene. Ya like it or you dont and thats okay 🤷‍♂️.

    What’s crazy is I’ve been listening to Sleep Token for years. I had some of their songs and albums saved on Spotify. And for so long I didn’t even know what they looked like. Literally just until earlier this year. 😂 I guess I saved their music when they would randomly play on Spotify.

    • @hmmm2714
      @hmmm2714 9 месяцев назад +1

      Same thing with me. I've been casually listening to them since 2019 because of Spotify's recommendations, and I just automatically added their songs to my playlist without really knowing how they looked like. Only recently did I actually start digging more into them and realizing they have their whole lore, which obviously was a pleasant surprise to me, as it added to their mystique and appeal. But, in a way, what sold them to me was legit just their music.

    Sleep Token is great. I think to the question of the music's complexity and how it's received, I think that people's overstimulation has somehow lent a level of acceptance to it. Also add in bands like Animals as Leaders and Polyphia that have garnered more exposure the last few years, it's like the timing for ST couldn't be better to tap into a kind of mainstream audience. The music is complex, but it's also cool.

    Don't get me wrong, I love Sleep Token as much as everyone else for their music, but it's also for the same reason I got into Slipknot as a kid. I never cared to deep dive to try find out who they were, same as Sleep Token, but knowing there's a mystery behind them, and that simple bit is starving 'normies' from the thing I feel they care about most (Is X band member hot?), and solely putting the attention to their music, which is what every band deserves. I'll rephrase, the normie part isn't why I truly like them, more an added factor, but the mystery and focus on the music aspect of the band is why I love both bands for the masks.

    At least when it comes to Vessel and the drummer, their identities are not a big secret. The songwriting credits can be looked up on a standard resource. Not that it matters, I'm impressed by their songwriting and musicianship. That on its own, though, is not enough to become popular. The whole show and looks were necessary.

    • @CliffArmijo

      @@spizzajayNot really. There is no current metal band that is super mainstream. Sleep Token is big for the metal scene, which has diminished over the years. One example of this would be their spotify listeners are a little over 2 million, which considering an artist like Doja Cat has around 75 million. I know Spotify is not the only medium to find their music, but alot of people stream music nowadays, so you gotta take that into account when seeing what their overall fanbase looks like. A small Numetal like Static X has around the same amount of listeners and they were a band that came out decades ago. Numetal, Pop Punk, and Buttrock bands from the 2000s, and even metalcore bands from the late 2000s and early 2010s had way more popularity in the mainstream than anything that is going on in the metal or hardcore scenes currently. Yes, they are getting bigger and that's awesome, because I am a huge fan of Sleep Token. But lets not pretend they are a massive mainstream radio band like a Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, Papa Roach, A day to remember, Asking Alexandria, etc...They are good and are growing fast. But keep it in context.
