A few fun facts: First, you didn't acknowledge that the backing track for this cover was actually arranged and performed by Angelica's friend Michael Rainwater. So, while Angelica says that she's doing it in the style of Halle Bailey's new version, Michael's original piano and orchestral track makes Angelica's version her own. We're pretty sure that she has the role in the Broadway production, but nothing has been officially announced. And with multiple Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, La Cage aux Folles, Hairspray) directing and doing the choreography, we expect a lively production. It is interesting to watch how a Broadway musical is developed. The casting call for the Developmental Workshop doesn't include the role of Trisha but only mentions her in the description of another role: "Carol: Female, 40-59 The welcoming, generous owner of the Harlem brownstone where she lives with her daughter Trisha and her tenant Dwayne. She is Raymond’s campaign manager. Civic minded. Maternal presence. Ethnicity: Black / African Descent" But the casting call for the Broadway production includes a full description of the role and notes that it is on offer: TRISHA - ROLE IS ON OFFER. 18+ to play 16-17, Black, Indigenous, API, Latine, MENASA, Mixed, or White, female-presenting. A talented visual artist and cosplayer with an open mind and a determination to help her family. A little shy, but empowered by Betty. Betty’s instant friend and Carol’s daughter. A2 (A below middle C) to D4." We heard that, during the workshop David wrote a new song just for Trisha so we think that the role gained more prominence as a result of the workshop (and likely due to Angelica's voice and acting). I'm sure with your experience in theater, you probably have a better idea as to the meaning of a role being on offer after the developmental workshop.
Yes, I that was so cute when she was five! You could see the concentration on her face as she hit every note. Considering that was her first year of singing lessons, and she was on dialysis every night, it shows her determination to be her best! Then when she sang it again at the age of five, I loved how much her performance and confidence had grown. Now - wow!
