it's been a rough couple of days, running into your video was the best thing that could happen to me today, this song made me feel really happy and distracted me from lots of nasty thoughts, you played it beautifully and it's very evident you have worked very hard with your added talent, thank you for sharing such a pretty song, im glad i found your channel! I'll def come back to this video in times where I'm feeling my lowest
Oh sweet Jesus. You play banjo AND dulcimer? Bluegrass is an underappreciated music. I love to see a younger generation pick it up to keep it alive. Do you sing also? You would be triple threat. Your awesome dude! I can't wait to hear more from you.
Thanks Robert! I do agree that Bluegrass can be underrated but what I play is actually called Old Time music, specifically an older style than Bluegrass called "Southern Appalachian Old Time" influenced by Kentucky musicians, some born as far back as the 1870s. It's a style that's not as well known to the rest of the world and I'm more than happy to share it with others. I'm glad to hear your kind words, and yes I do sing occasionally 😁
@@benkiserappalachianmusic hey Ben, what gauge strings are you using? I just found a mountain dulcimer today and I think I used to use .10’s but I can’t remember, lol
That is a 4 string dulcimer which is normally played with a noter. Since I play Southern Appalachian style dulcimer (which is usually played on a 3 string) I removed that extra melody string to make things more reasonable. Don Pedi is a master of Southern Appalachian dulcimer and my greatest influence. I would encourage you to look him up
@@benkiserappalachianmusic thanks for the reply! I shall do that. I've enjoyed your fiddle and banjo playing as well, keep it up! Greetings from the PNW.
Git it! Love this.
Thanks Rob, your my dulcimer hero!

Amazing playing mate! Sounds fantastic, greetings from the UK
Excellent.
Sounds great Ben! It is wonderful that you are among the young people who are helping to keep old time music alive. Thank you
Your welcome!
I'm 15 trying to pick up old time fiddle as i feel playing classical music is boring. Do you know any good resources?
@@andrewvu1752 look up Bruce Greene and watch him play, he’s one of the best fiddlers still alive today.
@@benkiserappalachianmusic thank you
This made me happy... Thanks!
My pleasure!
Beautiful
What a brght happy sound that is. Dog sneezing at 1:34 fit right in :)
That sneeze always scares the hell out of me with my studio headphones.

You could come back when your feeling good also, won't hurt anyone, you know just one more listen.
Спасибо. Звучало отлично!
I LOVE that sound 🥳🎈❤️
That was great! I tried, unsuccessfully, to learn to play the mountain dulcimer many years ago. Congratulations on some fine work.
Beautiful!

Fantastic work.
Terrific! Thank you.
I love this beautiful instrument. The first part of the tune sounds similar to “palms of victory”
Sounds great.
Yeah buddy! That’s a great Cindy.
Thanks Man!!

I'm using nickel plated steel strings, I think they might be medium gauge. It's the kind they sell at the country store.
Beautifully done!
Thanks!
Epic!
I love this, great stuff! Im new to dulcimer, why remove a string? Is it so you dont have to note it when going for a drone effect?
