    I have recently upgraded my Dell PrecisonT5810 to a T5820 which was being sold for GBP150 as not working. Having changed the memory it has run perfectly and has a Xeon W2145 processor as well as 32GB of DDR4 memory (2133 Mhz ECC memory) and a GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphic card with 6GB GDDR6 memory. It is has enough power to run CAD programmes as well as all the normal office software. It has also been updated with Windows 11. The processor is sold for more than I paid for the computer which also has the Flex Bay removable drives and an nVME Flex Bay module. I am a fan of DELLs and have run refurbished DELLS for years starting with a DELL Dimension systems and moving up to a dual processor Precision T7500 and then on to T5810 and now a T5820.

    I got one of those systems in 2020 when a lot of current PC hardware was unobtanium to use as a desktop for a while when everyone had to work from home. After I built myself a newer desktop it became my proxmox server with a CPU and RAM upgrade. Only recently replaced it with newer hardware for proxmox and now I'm using it to test Linux distros with a radeon 5500xt. Really solid hardware even with some of it being proprietary especially considering (depending on config) you can pick these up for as little as ~$150 ish now a days.

      You have made good use of your system over the years... people should follow your example and stop throwing away good PCs and workstations and instead repurpose them.

      @@jamesturnertech Also worth mentioning spare parts for things like the fan wall and PSU's are easy to get second hand for reasonable prices. And yeah, for the $400-$500 spent on the system, some extra ram and replacement CPU(s) this system has served me well for the last 4 years.

    I just got one last week. Man your right they built these right. One small issue people may have though? I put a low profile RTX 3050 in. When putting the side back on it hits the card. Just enough to keep it from latching. When you look at the side panel there is a plastic piece held on by one screw. I had to remove that. Looks like it's to hold your blank slot covers in it. I plan on taking a dremel And removing or slotting where it hits. But I want to do it right. It's to nice of a machine to not keep it right. Thanks for your video. It helped me decide to buy it. And on the upgrades I did, plus my future ones.

      Thank you for your comment! I am glad you also appreciate the value of this workstation. I like the idea of adding an RTX GPU because they allow you to use Nvidia Broadcast, which is very helpful when creating videos. The background blur or replacement without a green screen works very well, and the noise removal feature for your mic ensures excellent audio, even when there is background noise like a fan or AC unit.

    Would a 3 slot 285 mm GPU fit in this system?

    • @jamesturnertech
      @jamesturnertech  14 дней назад

      Yes, a three-slot 285 mm GPU should fit in a Dell Precision Tower 5810 workstation. However, there are a few considerations:
      Power Supply: Ensure your power supply can handle the power requirements of the GPU. The Precision 5810 typically comes with a 685W power supply, but upgrading to an 825W or higher is recommended for powerful GPUs.
      Space and Cooling: Make sure there is enough space in the case for the GPU and that your cooling setup can handle the additional heat generated.
      Lastly, you should consider how the GPU will be used because for most applications, a powerful modern GPU would be CPU-bound in this system, even if you were using the highest performance CPU that is compatible with the 5810.
      Here is a video I created that can help you determine if it makes sense to add such a powerful GPU to this system: ruclips.net/video/A_KKiPLyms0/видео.html
      Thank you for commenting, and good luck with your upgrade.

    Better than this processor please help me ?

    • @jamesturnertech
      @jamesturnertech  2 месяца назад +2

      Hi,
      That is the best V3 CPU you can use for this system, but you may be able to install the e5-2699 V4 with a BIOS upgrade. I would refer to Dell documentation or their forum to make sure, but I have read where some people claimed to have been successful.
      e5-2699 V3 Multithread Rating: 20316
      e5-2699 V4 Multithread Rating: 25604
      You also get a slight boost in single-threaded performance with the V4 CPU, though the base clock is slightly lower (2.2 vs 2.3 for the V3).
      Good luck with your upgrade!
