I have installed MacOS 14.3.1(Sonoma) on my Z440, booting from a 256 Gb NVME. 😀

Why no NVMe boot drive - I think the Z440 supports it.

This is the third video of yours I have watched and in all three, you make really sensible pairings with respect to the CPU/GPU combo, so great job!

I do try to build budget systems that have a good CPU, though the GPU isn't always the best possible match, so I like to offer suggestions for what I believe would be a good GPU. The reason for that is most of the latest builds are available for sale on my website and people use computers for different tasks, so it is usually better to let the buyer decide which graphics card will be the best match for their use case.

I'm finishing up a NAS build based on an HP Z440 motherboard, with an ATX case and PSU I already had on hand. I have about $500 into it (less taxes and shipping) and I'm just waiting for the last two of eight 4 TB hard drives to come in on Friday. The motherboard came with a 1650v3 on it but it's got a 2699v3 now because I might do some virtualization on it later on.

It is a great idea to use the HP motherboard for your NAS, and the E5-2699 V3 is an excellent CPU. When complete, it looks like you will have a fine NAS.

Best computer I've owned. E516450v3 32g memory 500gb nvme on an HP Turbo pci-e nvme adaptor. K2200 Quadro.

      That is a solid workstation!
I am going to build a HP Z440 soon on this channel with a Xeon E5-2698 V3, 64GB memory, 500GB SSD, an HHD for storage, and most likely a Quadro M4000 GPU with 8GB Memory. I may use a different GPU, I am still trying to decide if a GTX 1060 or 1070 would be better so it could also be used as a gaming PC. Do you have any thoughts on the graphics card I should use?
I hope you are subscribed and you check out that build when I get to it. I have about 15 more builds ready, so I am not sure when I will get to it, but it is going to happen.
      Thank you for your comment!

hey bro good video, you have helped me a lot, I have purchased a z440 for work but I would like to add an 8 GB asus rx 6600 but I have my doubts about the 8 pin power supply since I see that the power supply has 6 pins, even I don't know whether to buy a 6-pin to 8-pin adapter, or buy a dual 6-pin to 8-pin one.

      Hi Jesus Lozano,
If you have the HP Z440 with a 700W power supply, you should be able to use a 6 to 8-pin for that card. The HP Z440 power supply is a 90% Efficient Custom PSU (Wide-Ranging, Active PFC). It is a very well-made power supply and will handle the 132W draw of that card. I have used a GTX 1070 (150W draw) running on a single 6-pin to 8-pin without any issues, and I know at least one other person who has also run a 1070 in the same manner. In addition, I have read on forums that the Lenovo S30, HP Z440 (700W), and Dell 5810 (685 and 825W versions) all have good enough power supplies to handle similar spec GPUs.
      Thank You for your comment!

My z440 had a gt710 in I ve just changed it to a gtx1650 but won’t boot to windows just getting intel boot up error message.Have tried the 1650 in another pc and it works ,if I put the gt710 back in it boots up fine again any ideas what would cause this?

The boot error you're experiencing when upgrading from a GT710 to a GTX1650 might be due to a few common issues related to compatibility, power, or BIOS settings:
Power Supply: The GTX1650 typically requires more power than the GT710, and some versions of the GTX1650 may need an additional PCIe power connector. If there is a connector, be sure it is connected, and make sure your power supply has enough wattage and is properly connected to the GPU (if needed).
BIOS Settings: Some motherboards require you to change settings when installing a new GPU. Try resetting the BIOS to default settings or ensure that the correct PCIe slot is selected as the primary display output.
Legacy/UEFI Compatibility: If your system is set to legacy boot mode, the GTX1650 might require UEFI mode to function properly. Check your BIOS/UEFI settings and switch to UEFI mode if necessary.
Driver Conflicts: Uninstall the old GPU drivers (for the GT710) and install fresh drivers for the GTX1650 from NVIDIA's website. Sometimes, lingering drivers can cause boot errors.
These steps should help resolve the boot error.
Thank you for your comment and I hope one of these solutions resolves your problem. I have used quite a few different GPUs with the Z440 without any issues, so I would lean towards it being a driver conflict.
