So sorry for your loss. I’m going through a tough time now with both parents. My mom just had major surgery and is in rehab yet her mental status is not great and really not sure she will make us back home at all. My dad is having a rough time dealing with his wife not home anymore and the thought of being alone is hurting him so much. I was in the phone with him and he just started to sob, told me he had to go and hung up. Only 2 times I’ve seen my dad cry. When my nephew, his grandson passed and the other day. Music has always been my go to, to help with emotions that I’m going through. I’ve heard this song before and it does hit home. Remember you are loved and cared for by God above all. Not sure what your beliefs or faith are but by the fact you believe your mom went to live with Jesus kind of give a clue!! Lol. Remember though Jesus is about a relationship not just spirituality. I’ll be praying for you during your grieving time. Be blessed my brother.

I lost my husband about a month ago. He suffered with End Stage Renal Disease and all of the complications that go with it for over 8 years. He never lost his passion for the Lord and what He could do with his illness. Two weeks after a major surgery, he died of complications from the surgery in my arms at the hospital. I was so blessed to be there when he transitioned from this life, and opened his eyes in heaven. His scars were many. This song makes me sob, and yet brings so much comfort at the same time. I am so grateful that his scars are healed. This song brings the emotions of my heart and puts them into words. Thank you Casting Crowns!

@Tina Bagheri. I was going to say (almost) the exact same thing. The ONLY difference is the amount of time we have been missing our sons. I lost my Sonshine FIVE years ago (June 11, 2016). This beautiful song brought much peace to my heart and is now (& will probably always remain) my favorite song EVER. I lost my beautiful son 6 weeks ago. He was only 30 and He went to be with the Lord unexpectedly to me but not God. I always prayed “God I know you have big plans for my son” and now the only thing that gets me through this pain is my faith and I have to believe this was his big plans for him. It’s just so hard at times especially when like you said, when I realized that he is gone and I feel so empty. I feel like you wrote this song just for me and my son. Thank you.

This was the song playing on the radio when I got into my vehicle to go to the funeral home the day after my husband passed away. I had been questioning the state of my husband's heart until I heard this song and it brought peace to my heart that I will see him again one day.
I lost my Brother in February suddenly, he died in my arms maybe of a stroke post-COVID related. I am grieving and though I am a Christian and am trying to use my faith to get through this loss, its been so hard. My wife committed suicide a few years ago. She had a lot of emotional scars. This song seems to be the one song to help me truly heal.
This story really resonates with me since I took care of my terminally ill Daddy until he passed in 2013. I miss everything about him and was so incredibly blessed to have him as my Daddy, but it brings me such comfort to know that he is healed and with our Savior ❤️

I was sitting in a parking lot of a Orthopedic Dr . I had driven my sister who is 65 to this appointment because of a horrific accident that broke her arm in many places. She had major surgery 2 week prior and she was about to see the scar for the first time. We had no idea how long the incision would be. As we sat there I played this song for us and it just gave us peace. As we were sitting in the waiting room waiting to be called back a friend texted us and sent this song and said you should listen to this.
Well we just had. Praise God as the incision ended up being over a foot long and was very hard to look at. It truly helped her to hear this song going into that appointment. Gods blessing on all of you and especially those dealing with loss.
This week I performed the memorial service of two extremely close friends who added so much to my life. Thank you for this song- it's an amazing comfort and a proclamation of the victory they now have in Christ! Thank you.
I felt that my mother.was leaving and I held her when she passed. The room was suddenly so quiet. My mother hadn't moved in soon time but she straightened up and her eyes were filled with a brightness I had never seen before. I knew she was seeing the other side. Then she slumped against me and.I felt an empty shell. And GOD gave me His peace. That she would be taken care of till we meet again. I have never written these words before. I hope it helps someone.

Mark! Thank you so much for this “story behind the song” and for following the lead of The Holy Spirit to write the song!!! When you said “we need to ask The Father to help us release our ideas of who I knew that loved one was and start focusing on who they are now”, it brought a brand new revelation to a healing journey I’ve been on for nearly two years! I lost the love of my life unexpectedly in October 2019 and Jesus is the only reason I even survived the first year and I’m still healing in year two. My Andy had so many scars in this life, it’s been a tremendous comfort to think about him in perfect resurrection form with Jesus. Casting Crowns has released some of the most amazing songs in the past year or so (starting with Start Right Here) and y’all were already my all time favorite group!!! But Start Right Here, What if I Gave Everything, and now this song, have been life changing for me and a healing balm to my soul. I can’t even wait until we all get to Heaven and y’all will be performing the worship music that we get to sing to our Savior and our Father face-to-face!!

Lost my dad due to covid this song bring me comfort
September 3rd was my late grandma’s birthday. I took flowers to the beautiful graveyard to her. I noticed many many flowers there (more than usual) you would’ve thought it was Memorial Day. It was an emotional visit for me…I returned to my car and turned on our Christian Station KLOVE and this song came on. I knew the Angels delivered it for me! A very heartwarming song and very anointed one. Thank you Casting Crowns for soothing our hearts and reminding us about the beauty of heaven and our loved ones.
3 weeks ago, I lost my 21 year old son in a plane crash. The plane went down and the scene was very much like that of the burned forest you show in the lyrics video. The plane caught on fire on impact. He and another young man were some how able to unbuckle their seatbelts and get out. The other young man had such severe burns he was unidentifiable and passed shortly after. My son was able to crawl to a nearby stream to soothe his 3rd degree burns that were on 95% of his body. When the first responders finally were able to reach him he was able to tell him his information and that they needed to find the other boy. He was taken by life flight, where his heart stopped for over 20 minutes, to the hospital. They were able to resuscitate him and we were able to say our goodbyes while he was hooked up to so many machines. The smell of his burned skin and hair still linger with me. His skin was soaking the hospital sheets with blood. It is something no parent should ever have to witness.
Somehow I stumbled on this beautiful song today and have had tears streaming down my face as I know that my sweet boy has been made whole again, with no burns or scars. I have my dear Savior to thank for that. The video depicts beautifully a gentle stream, filled with love, light and hope. Thank you for warming my heart and reminding me that I will see my son again, as a perfect human, excited when we join him. What a glorious reunion that will be. Until then, we will strive to honor our sons as we worship Him and His holy name.❤️🙏🏼💔

We lost our precious son August of 2020 and I wish this had been out then I cannot seen to get past the pain I carry every day this song has been playing every day since I heard it I play it over and over again I let my son husband and grandson it was his dad I let him here it today I cry a lot and I miss my son very much I look at where he sat for so many years as he resting from a hard day at work he lived with us all his life except for the 13 years he was married and he came back home to live till the day he died god let us keep him 57 years 8months and 6 days I am thankful for those precious years this song has been a comfort to me I love this thank god for casting crowns

Thank you so much for recording this song. It has been 3 (very long) years since our youngest daughter took her own life. She was a believer, she was always very vocal about her faith, right up until the end. The last 2 months of her life, she was saying that all she wanted to do was go and be with the one person she knew loved her unconditionally. She knew her dad and I do, but she questioned the love of everyone else in her life, except her Jesus, and she wanted to be with Him so the pain of this life would end. She was in pain in almost every aspect of her life. (I won't get into the details here). Thank you for the perspective of thinking about her as she is now, not how she was then. As much as I miss her - and always will - it is a comfort to think about her as a whole person, out of pain, laughing, running, playing, and waiting to be able to hug me once again.

FIVE years ago, I was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s… I am 65 and have a wife and 3 kids… and all of a sudden my life was cut very short. No one knows how much longer I have left to live.. not even the doctors…so I take each day with my family and friends as a blessing from GOD.
My wife passed away from ALS in Nov 2020. I was scrolling videos a couple nights ago. This song came on and I must have played it 10 times in a row crying my eyes out. I posted this on Facebook and have had a lot of family and friends sending their prayers and support. I wish I would have known of this video before her memorial. She completely changed my life with her faith and love of God. Thank you for this song....God bless
I just lost a friend, more like a sister, to ALS. It is a horrible disease. I grieved for her as she suffered...I’ll miss her always, but she has been set free from that prison. She is in the arms of Jesus...able to speak and move, and maybe fly! I know we’ll see our loved ones again. And I know they are safe and cared for in Heaven. 💕🙏🏻
My brother Don just passed away on Monday, July 26th from pancreatic cancer. This song is just a comfort to me. He has trusted Christ as his Saviour a few years ago. My son was diagnosed in 2012 with a rare cancer that would form part of his daily life till he passed on the 29th June 2021. He used his gifts whenever an opportunity arose and all who were privileged to know him, loved him dearly, it was impossible but to love my Duncan. In the last 4 to 6 months of his life, I watched him slowly disappear, loss everything he was, his masculinity, the use of his legs, his dignity, his laughter, his ambition. Everything he was, was no longer. This song is helping me trust that were he is now, what he has now, is good and that all he suffered, is no more. I lived for my son and am finding it unbearable without him. Thank you for this song, it's much needed.

Very true words spoken. We need to embrace the people we love in our lives, while they are still here with us. My mother passed away thirty years ago in a fatal car accident that too her life. She was 56 years old. I was devastated when she died. She was in a coma for two days. She never knew that I was by her bedside. But, at least, I was there. She was living in Miami at the time. I was living in Houston, Texas. As soon as I heard that she was in a fatal car accident, I flew to Miami the very next day. I'm very glad that I did. I had to be there for my dad, my sister and my brother. Not a day goes by that I don't think about my mother. She was a good person and a wonderful mother. Thank God, for the wonderful memories that I have of my childhood with my mother, my father, my sister and my brother. My brother passed away in July of 2013 from a massive heart attack. He was only 51 years old at the time of his death. I miss them both terribly! However, I know that I will see them someday in heaven. May they both rest in peace. 💖😥
My Mom watche Her Mom pass. Very painful for My Mom. Almost exactly to the day my Grandmother got sick My Mother was diagnosed with PANCREATIC Cancer Stage 4. My Mom was gone in 6 months. It was so clear Jesus Christ would pull each of them through. The PANCREATIC Cancer was hell. But both are in Heaven sitting well with Our Savior. It was painful watching my Mom loose Her Mom. Thank You Mark.

I lost my Mom last year a day before Mother's day. She was tired and ready to go home. The doctor's could have saved her, but her request was if she wound up back in the hospital again was to let her go. My brother's, sister's and I I had to do the hardest thing we ever did and was to let her go. She was ready to go home even though we wanted her to stay here. We really miss you Mama and know you are healed and happy. You're up there with our brother T.J. We still cry because we can't just pick up the phone and hear her voice or go sit with her and have coffee. We have to remind ourselves so much that she's with Jesus and not suffering anymore. We do feel like she looks down upon us and we even feel her presence every so often. So many reminders and it's not the same without her. 😢🥺
Thank you for sharing this, Mark. I love to hear the stories behind the songs. My dad was a song leader, before we had Worship leaders. He often would tell the stories behind the hymns we sang. No chorus' back then. He went home in 2014 at the age of 94 fully alert and active. My mom went home 4 months before totally alert and active. They had served the Lord and been married 73 years. How blessed we kids were that they did not suffer!!!! Still miss them, but know where they are!!!
My daddy passed away 7 months ago today, I didn’t think my heart could take this loss. 3 months later we lost my brother in law in a tragic accident and again my heart was broken. June 30 2021 we lost my nephew also a tragic loss. My sister requested this song be played at his services, your song touched my heart like nothing has in a very long time. On Monday I lost my husband of 25 years very suddenly. As my husband was taking his last breath your song was playing. I miss him so much but I rest assured that he walks with Jesus and indeed all of his scars are gone.
This song has given me the strength I need right now to remind me that he is free of pain and that all of his scars are gone. He is once again whole

I lost my Dad June 3 at the age of 78. He was ill since the age of 15 and had 3 open heart surgeries and 2 pacemaker surgeries before getting a heart transplant at the age of 60. At the end, he fell and broke his pelvis, wrist, foot and neck and was in severe pain. I found that song a few days ago and it is such a blessing.
The feeling of hopelessness is hard to over come some times. God in the end will always win. God is here, he never left.

My brother passed 11/11/2021 I was praying to God and almost immediately this song came on my feed. I knew my prayer was being answered. There aren't words to express how much this song has helped me in my grief and my walk with Jesus. My brother walked and lived and prayed in the spirit. The greatest gift he gave me was showing me by example how to walk with God.

This is my favorite song, my husband passed away June 1,2023, right after my son was in intensive care on respirator for 23 days, and had a stroke when removed the respirator,then he was diagnosed with Ceberal Amyloid Angiopathy. Had to learn to walk, talk and make since of things when he speaks. This is one of the songs that helped me a lot, yes our Lord Jesus Christ 😇 was with us. Amen and Amen 🙌🙏

My heart was shattered in million pieces on Christmas Eve 2021. My beautiful wife past away fighting Diabetes for the last three years of her life. She suffered so much but I was hoping she could of beat this. But her body had taken so much during the years of fighting that the last few days her body was shutting down. Now I have so much pain in my heart for her passing. I know I was selfish wanting her to live on. But I didn't want to bare the pain of losing her. I still cry today and feel a empty space in my heart. But I know she's not suffering and God has her in his hand. Until we meet again Kathy. You will always be missed. I just lost my mom in April. I think of her and my dad (6 years now). We watched my mom for 4 months and had such anger because she didn't have to suffer like she did. (Dr failed her) but she was so ready. She had been for a long time. I had to let her go before she left. But with Dad it was sudden. These last few months have been hard for us 3 girls. But I know both of them don't hurt, they are not on pain and Dad can breathe again. I will forever miss them but know they are with God. Mom waited till her 56th wedding anniversary to join them. 💜💜💜
I cry every-time I hear this song, my husband of 51 years suddenly died, went from a stomach ache to dying in 5 days. Before we even got to his last day on earth I had him listen to Scars In Heaven, This is the song I chose for his funeral. The part that says, If I had Only Known The Last Time Would Be The Last Time, and, I Would have stayed a little longer held on a little tighter. How true. There was not a dry eye at the service. I miss him so, so, much. But he has his legs he’s with his mom , sister and brother in a new home with a new life, and best of all he has no more scars from the accident that claim both his legs.

I heard this song for the first time an brought so many tears. I lost my stepmom almost 2 years ago. She was about on her second kidney transplant was doing sooo well ,well we thought she also went thru some other unexpected illness ,she was a strong woman. She was a fighter. Then suffered an unexpected stroke,very devastating. We all miss her sooo very much . This song brought comfort but knowing she's not hurting anymore helps. We played this song at my dad’s celebration of life in June. I’m now 19, but my dad passed away in September of 2021 when I was 17. Just a senior in highschool while my sister was 14 and a freshman. I had the best childhood I could ever ask for. My parents were so in love. My dad was my best friend. We did so much together. He died suddenly, so I didn’t really get to say goodbye the way I wanted to. Thank you for this song. It makes me cry nearly every time. It truly captures how I feel about my dad. I’m so glad he led me and my sister down the right path towards Christ our whole life, and to know that is where he is now, and that I’ll be there with him again someday soon.

I just heard this song today and I believe God sent it at this time for me! I cried so much it scared my pain doctor. It came on right as I was pulling in at his office. The reason it touched me so much because my cousin who is a year younger than me was just found dead. I had taken care of him through back and neck surgeries after not seeing him a long time because I lived in NC. The Holy Spirit had been urging me to get back home to Oklahoma for years and finally got my chance and I think it was to be here for my family when they needed help. We haven’t even buried him yet. Making plans to bury him now and my cousin just now messaged me we will bury him Friday! I asked them to play this song for him! It’s such a blessing!
