The design and effect from the acorn caps is so cool! And the music during that slow resin pour was spot on 🤣
Thanks so much 😊
I always giggle when the "money shot" comes up. Really nice job. Turned out gorgeous. Thx for sharing! :)
I always giggle when I edit it. lol
Acorn Bangers 9, the money shot 😎
It cracks me up when you speed things up. The bowl turned out pretty unique.
Ken, I really enjoying watching you turn wood, I find it mesmerising! A beautiful piece of workmanship as always 😉
Nice bowl, love the color and design on it. Keep up the hard work Ken. Liked the video as always.
Thanks, will do!
I really like the contrast between the acorn caps and the dark resin. Great job Ken! - Ed
Hey didn't you do one in blue? I can't remember but I think it was you.
@@MoonpieCreations I did do one in blue. I've done a couple more, but didn't film them. I did have a better finish with the ones I stabilized. The blue one didn't have stabilized caps and I can feel the difference in the resin and the caps, but not on the stabilized ones. That was my experience at least. I think I like the way yours turned out better though. I really dig the contrast against the black resin. Awesome job brother!
I think you are doing a terrific job.
I'm enjoying the creativity and the use of different mediums.
I think the honesty you show when things don't go exactly to plan is great.
Good job.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that.
You experiment, trying new things. It is a learning curve, but I think you are going to nail it. Like everything else, it takes practice. Cool bowl, by the way. I liked the backlighting you did, so that we could see through it. Please don't ever stop experimenting, it reminds me of being a student, and asking why such and such things are done by rote, instead of trying something new.
Thanks for that. I appreciate it.
That absolutely the coolest looking bowl! I really didn't expect it to turn out like that.😂👍
Your eye for odd materials to incorporate into the resin continues to amaze. This looks spectacular. ✌
😂Thank you very much! I laughed, because......next week. 😂😂😂
I just discovered your channel tonight and I'm hooked! I think this one is the coolest looking bowl I've seen so far on your channel. Also, I was super happy to hear that you recycle your resin shavings. I had asked about that in a comment on the first video I saw from you. Subscribed!
Awesome! Thank you! There should be a few of those videos coming out pretty soon. I hope.
Love it dude. Your choice of color based on the medium is always spot on. Kudos brother.
Thanks a ton!
I think it came out beautiful! Good bowl for dropping keys and change by front door where people will see more the front door... I LOVE the center!
Wasn’t sure if you caught my last eat suggestions on fruit loops or Cheerios for a cereal bowl and it’d be colorful and image the LOOK!!!!
Oh I caught you idea alright. In the works. Thank you! 😊
Nice video. I appreciate how you keep them brief, just showing the major steps.
Thank you Tim.
Acorn caps look awesome in a bowl! I also have to admit I was curious about the ring, thanks for clearing that up.
Any time! Thanks.
Never thought there would be an awesome bowl that could be made from the things that hit my roof every fall... great job.
Glad you like it!
Great piece. Love the cool pattern on the inside. Good video too!
Thank you very much!
Turned out so beautiful! Great job!
Wow, thank you!
That's a fun looking bowl. Great work, Ken.
Thank you sir.
I've always liked your work but I've been noticing a lot of improvement, with your projects, the video editing and everything. Great job
Wow, thanks! I did have a few editing issues on this one. A misspelling and a glitch after the slow-mo. Had to hurry to get it edited and uploaded. Didn't finish it till Thursday morning.
Absolutely beautiful. Love the color and texture. You done good, as always.
Thank you so much!
Very cool. Another beauty!!! Thanks for sharing Ken!
Thanks for watching
I love it! It looks like a bunch of solar eclipses.
Every time you slow the video down, during the turn, I tense up waiting for a chunk to shoot out at you.
Haha, I hate when that happens.
That is a mighty fine looking bowl. Great choice of color!
Thank you kindly
🤣🤣🤣🤣 the softcore foreplay music while pouring the resin.
Subbed. The inside looks amazing
Awesome! Thank you!
Beautiful. It makes me think of the rocks full of fossilised shells from our local beach.
I was trying to figure out what the pattern reminded me of and you nailed it. Thanks.
Looks great Ken. Like the effect created by the acorn caps
Thanks 👍 They looked like fossils in rock to me.
@@MoonpieCreations I can see that now.
Nice looking bowl, love the color and design ♥️
Thank you very much!
Awesome job, Mr. Ken I love it, keep up the amazing work !!!👍😁
Thanks! Will do!
Absolutely gorgeous awesome job Ken
Thank you kindly
Wonder if gum ball tree gum balls can be done too probable have to use a vacuum pump in pulses to remove as much of the air before the presser tank.
I tried it here. ruclips.net/video/FMKMA3dMxr0/видео.html Definitely need a vacuum for those.
@@MoonpieCreations Yup that's what I thought a new or used vacuum pump would help a lot with all kinds of pours for sure. Ever use brillo pads in a pour?
@@kaydog2008 Only steel wool so far.
Love the acorn look. Two thumbs up
Thanks.
That is a gorgeous bowl! The acorn caps was a great idea! :)
Thank you! 😊 I saw someone do a pen with them and thought hey I want to try that.
That came out really nice. Thank you for sharing your video.
Thanks for watching!
Really lovely piece. The smoky resin was I think the perfect choice to go with the shells. Gives it a wonderful depth. I have a thought about sanding. I'm not a wood turner but I am an artist and I've done a fair amount of sanding of contrary surfaces - like acrylic paint for one. What duffstyle 1 says below makes sense to me. Also I might mix in some hand-sanding with sanding on the lathe. Randomize the abrasion pattern.
Thanks you for your input. One way or another I will figure this out. lol
I just love that you'll try anything... you are the man. Keep them coming
Thanks! Will do!
That's really nice.I wish I could do like you. Thanks for sharing!
👏👏👏👏
Thank you! Cheers!
That is one beautiful bowl! Outstanding!
Thank you.
Another wonderful creation. I wonder how a resin and Christmas garland bowl would turn out.
Thanks. That would be cool! Maybe next Christmas.
@@MoonpieCreations congrats on hitting 40,000 subs. Well deserved.
Ken, really like the way it came out. Nice!!!
Thanks 👍
I really like how it looks 💕 One of the benefits of stabilizing things is so they are the same hardness as the surrounding resin. Or you could use starbond super thin ca after it's turned, before you start sanding, on the exposed areas of the added in stuff with a very similar effect.
I totally agree! Thanks Jen.
Acorn tops make for some great hybrids but can be a pain to work with if you dont take your time! Great video! 👍
Definitely! Thanks.
Hi bud what lovely looking bowl love the colour well donee 😊 👍
Thanks 👍
other than the cracks that came out really nice Ken
Hey hon how are you?
@@charmingcustomcrafts I'm Great How are you ?
Thanks Doug.
I know it is kinda off topic but do anybody know a good website to stream newly released series online ?
Now that is one of my favorites! I have always wondered what acorn caps would look like in the resin. I like to do one using dry cedar branchs in resin
Ahhh cedar, I love the smell.
That's so cool! Love it! Great job!
Thanks so much!
Well Ken, looks like that worked out excellent. Bummer about the small voids and the stone. Final piece, top shelf! I'm hangin tight for your next, 'Will It Work Project.'
I will find out tonight.,.......SMH the things I do. bahahahaha
How thin can the walls of a resin turn be and still be function and stable
I usually do a 1/4 to 3/8" thick. I want to try 1/8" but sometimes the walls will start to warp to thin.
Howdy neighbor... not sure if you remember me from your live... I live in Reidsville, NC. Well you have created another beautiful project. I love this one.
That is very sweet looking. Nice job.
Thanks 👍
How about a "Recycled Bowl"? Made from old resin shavings, sawdust, and metal (Aluminum?) turnings.
In the works!!!!
That came out super cool!!!
The bowl turned out awesome
Thanks James
Those are at least twice the size of the Liveoak acorn caps I used. Still looks cool though! I didn't stabilize mine either, I just made sure they were dry using my toaster oven. Good job, buddy!
Billy
i love this bowl...i have a personal love of acorn caps...using an acorn cap is the only way i can whistle loudly....so, yeah....love this bowl!!
Hahahaha, that's awesome.
Great looking bowl. 👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Shoulda coulda woulda.... turned out beautiful brother you’re a totally joy to watch.your have a good at anything approach is a winner in my 👀 . Through madness comes genius lol 😘👍
Haha, thank you. I have the madness down pat.
I like it!
Got an idea for ya...
Meat platter, clear smoky resin... with charcoal bricketts?
What about walnut shells black ones?
Good idea. I like me some walnuts
I don't know if you have them all over SC, like we do in NC, but what about turning the spikey seed pods from Sweetgum trees?
Like this? ruclips.net/video/FMKMA3dMxr0/видео.html 😀
Lol! Ask and ye shall receive. I don't know how I missed that video.
great work, have you ever tried brass or brass nuggets in resin
Nice one...I would have added a waste block in center to save resin but im cheap that way LOL....nice color combo too
Thanks 👍 But now I'm hurt that you didn't watch the end where I talk about the waste block. Just kidding, most people don't watch the outro.
I like it! I think if the resin was a little more translucent if it would make the acorns stand out more.
Great idea. Thanks.
You know what I watched it all the way through I gave it a like not my kind of Deal but bro deserves it
Ken,
You have a nut cap bowl! Lol
Honestly, when you were drying the acorn caps in the oven, did it have an earthly, dirt smell to them?
It turned out nice! Thank you for taking the time to film and post it!
No not an earthy smell. More of a peanut shell smell. Lol Thanks for watching.
@@MoonpieCreations thanks, that's interestingly to know!
Very cool. BTW, how did the speaker from the livestream come out?
It's good. I will be sending it out to my daughters in-law shortly.
Nice work Ken!
Can you show a video how you use the wasted resin ?
Yes, I have a video in the works.
Ok thanks. I had an idea to dye the shavings with different color alcohol inks for a colorful bowl.
Looks killer Ken!!
Thanks.
The look of it reminds me of turned cinnamon bark in epoxy. One day you should turn some if you like the smell of cinnamon that is. It's just amazing while turning and the finished thingy holds the smell for a while. Can be used as a decorative air freshener.
Great idea! I love me some cinnamon.
How do you recycle resin shavings?
Hey, I use them to make other bowls. it helps cut down on the amount of resin in them. This is my biggest way. I also due the resin shavings to use in some bowls too. I then sell those bowls too. I use dyed resin shavings and non dyed for packing material with my creations, I use them for Easter basket filler too. What I do not use I give to my local recycling center that takes these shavings. These are a few ways I recycle the resin shavings. Thanks.
Love it. It's a pity you couldn't make a bowl but inside there is a flow lava lamp thing.
1/2-1 inch bamboo tubes?
Working!!! I stole a few shoots from the church's property next to me. lol
Ken, what do you reuse the resin shavings for?
Hey Kevin, I use them to make more bowls, Packing material, I use straight resin shavings for Easter basket filler. It dyes real well. I use it for filler to use less resin . What I don't use I give to the recycling center in my town.
You are hilarious and I really love your channel
Thank you so much!! You're the best!!!
I love this! It reminds me a bit of the rich Chinese?/Japanese? lacquered furniture. Love the toffee texture of the brown and black blend.
Thank you
Ok, I just sent out a couple stickers to you today! Should be there sometime this week
You ended up with a good result. The inside of the bowl was particularly nice. One of the reasons I use a waste block when casting acorn caps is because they float! I think the waste block helps keep the distribution of the acorn caps (and similar items) even throughout the resin. Have you noticed something similar?
I've always stabilized acorn caps before casting them. My concern is that if someone uses the bowl, the caps may absorb moisture and try to swell -- which might crack the bowl. Again, I'd appreciate your thoughts on this. It just seems different than a wooden bowl. If a wooden bowl gets wet, the entire bowl can move. With a mixed media bowl, that would not be the case.
Good call on the waste block. I really wish I would have put it in.
As for stabilizing. I only sell my items for display. I never suggest putting liquid in them. For a few reason,. In fact I put a disclaimer on each listing then follow up with an email after I send it. I have a few of the resin and wood bowls that I use a damn cloth to clean, but that's it.
@@MoonpieCreations Thanks for the reply.
I think that is really cool! Do you think sanding sealer plays much of a role on resin?
Thanks. Regular sanding sealer no, but this is cellulous sanding sealer. It helps to fill in the light scratches to get a better finish.
Beautiful. Wish I had the ability to turn things
Thank you.
Where does the shine juice come from? Homemade or commercial product?
It is a recipe from Cap'n Eddie Castilian. I made a video on it here ruclips.net/video/rbJacc8Kpmw/видео.html
Looks Awesome 👍🏻
Thanks 👍
Hey Ken, great bowl!
I’ve been wanting to do something similar with chesnut hulls. Sort of a hillbilly sea urchin, if you will. 😂 I’d casted some up but, still getting used to the dyes and put WAY too much, which caused the resin to not be translucent enough to see through. So, I kinda lost interest and haven’t turned it. Lol
May have to try it again!
Thanks for sharing man!
Getting the right amount of dye or pigment in the resin is a real struggle. lol
Have you tried turning deer antlers?
No, I've heard it smells horrible.
@@MoonpieCreations it does, you might need to wear a mask because the bone dust can damage your lungs.
Awesome turning 😎
How about doing a LED lamp with green army guys in resin.
Such a cool idea. Thanks.
Brilliant stuff, Moonman! Have you found anything you can’t turn? Aside from steel?
I choose mediums I think I can turn, but I have a few that may be fails coming. lol
Did you stabilize the acorn caps? I'm new to resin and am trying to understand when and when not to stabilize.
Thank you for another great video I've asked other channels before and got no answer I would really like to see what could be made using clothing like maybe a old favorite t-shirt that you can't wear anymore and some resin to create some art
Guil the bearded woodworker did some old jeans in resin a while back. I think the technique is called micarta
Here's Guil's video: ruclips.net/video/EicYNJiafwM/видео.html
I would think no, but then again maybe, going to watch the video to find out. And this is an Awesome informational educational video experience Y'alls God Bless Ya 🙏
Awesome, thank you!
Beautiful work
Thank you very much!
I was sure the colour of the resin would be too dark, but nope! Great contrast.
What if you don't have a pressure pot ?
You could try a deep pour epoxy, the thinness of it may allow the air bubble to escape. It's hard not get bubbles in epoxy pours like this without a pressure pot of vacuum.
Sounded to me like that forstner bit was complaining about you forgetting the waste block.
Your last few projects have been really interesting.
Can you pour multiple batches without sanding between layers?
When you pour multiple times it leave what is called a witness line. You can see the different pours. That forstner bit was soooo pissed.
And ... well - that's gorgeous Ken! My latest idea ... empty rifle cartridges, shotgun shells, perhaps a few shotgun pellets, or .30 cal projectiles ... and Antler pieces! Ooooohhh... you can have that idea :)
That's cool I've got to get up here in the mountain behind my house my father in-law has land behind me I need to go start collecting I really like this it looks great. James
Their look was way cool. Make sure to dry them real good.
Very nice, Ken. They look like lil moons. 😉
Yes they do
ANOTHER GREAT BOWL
Why are there no Bcorns, or Ccorns?
Haha, it's a mystery that will never be solved.
Really turned out great
Thanks.
I’d like to see this again with a clear or near to clear resin so we can appreciate the shapes of the acorns…. They’re such wonderful little creations of nature… “🧚♂️ hats”
Great suggestion!
