I remember going on this ride in the late 90's as a kid and thought it was fantastic! Shame it's closed now (been closed for two years, DM won't reveal if it will ever re open) Can't wait to return to Drayton Manor after 17 years, still a great little british theme park.
Its a very British kind of attraction, the characters are not meant to be realistic, its all a big animated caricature. There wasnt the internet in 1990 to set it on the world stage as a "knock off" and theme park fans didn't criticise every detail of an animatronic like Disney fans do now. As long as they are lively and funny then that's what matters. But its a real shame so many scenes are copied from Pirates of the Carribbean though, because it means it will forever be sidelined. Most of what you see here looks bad because it's so badly maintained, many broken or jolty animations and the lighting a mess, it used to be much better than this. Unlikely to open again now.
Just been to drayton manor today after many years. This was a childhood fave of mine and I'm 40 now so yes that has been there for many years. It was almost spooky seeing it all locked up gates closed, the gates I remember walking through as a child and getting nervous about the drop down to the water in the dark haha. Loved the smell and the atmosphere inside there. So nostalgic that's why I've got to look for it today. Really missed it and just wanted to be able to walk through those doors again.
I agree the poor lighting, non existant movements of the animatronics, the water, and slow moving vehicle make it terrifying to ride, especially if the ride stopped and the riders got stuck in the middle of the attraction at night. Fun times.
Honestly, as a kid, this ride always delivered. It would be the first ride we went on, followed by the dragon rollercoaster. My brother and I would go on several times. I can still remember the smell. Not unpleasant but distinct. Sad to hear this ride (and the dragon) are long gone now. Thanks for capturing it on film!
I went on my birthday with my nephews once, the boat got stuck at the top of the slope, my 6 foot nephew started wildly bouncing in his seat at the front and then the thing went down WAY faster than it should have. good times!
There used to be an animatronic with a decapitated pirate - his head would be in a hook floating above his body and his eyes would be moving about. Thing gave me nightmares for years. I noticed it was not in this, did they remove it a while ago?
Loved this as a child - went on it from new then through the years as it started falling apart. Tried taking my kids on it a year or so ago but it had closed down along with other rides. Glad Drayton Manor has been sold - hopefully the new owners will invest some much needed money into it.
Literally thinking about this ride now, a pretty decent attempt at a Dinsey knock off for such a small park. Wonder if the new owners have any plans for the building?
I went on this ride when it first opened it was all working great the ride was spectacular and it didn't smell odd I suppose having the same water in there is going to cause damp over the years the pirate you see on the bridge was two pirates sword 🗡️ fighting looks like the electrics are failing here so sad to see it went like this great memories 🤗
When I visited Drayton Manor and went on the ride I began to compare it to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in America such as the cage with the dog,the mini fall and the bridge I could go on even more.
They could have tried a little harder since POTC in California had been out since 1967 and this ride opened in 1990. That being said it is still a interesting ride, but it is always hard to compare stuff to disney
I came looking for this out of curiosity because of ThemeParkCrazy. . Yes it's heavily inspired by Disney, shame they couldn't come up with their own "piratey" music and voice acting..
I love this ride so much but it was closed last time i went to drayton manor coz they were refurbishing it.Going to drayton manor again tomorrow hope its open.
Nothings more irritating than some 'know it all' talking all the way through a ride, regardless of whether it's good or not. Id of turned around and shhh'd you.
Drayton Manor used to be my local theme park. This video does not truly convey how naff this ride is, but I love it anyway. Its so very crap and every year it gets worse as the mechanics wear out.
Lets just say anyone who's ever been on a Pirates of the Caribbean ride will be sorely disappointed. Mostly these days I go on it just to see how much is no longer working.
Rachel Kosminsky I loved the pirate adventure and it is sad to see it decaying and poorly maintained. It's even more upsetting that that ride has been closed the whole of 2016 when that waste of space haunting ride is still open. If they get rid of that they might as well make it all Thomas land cause that's only reason I go (taking my daughter obviously lol)
Wow. Everything's so static compared to POTC. (They didn't even try with the fire effects, did they?) Maybe all the regular figures were out having tea?
I never realised how much this is like the Pirates Of The Caribbean ride, I've been on this once in 2010 and when I went over to America I went on Pirates last year
OMG!! What terrible anamatronics they have. They either are not working or working poorly! Wow!! Closer to Walt's original wax museum thought for POTC.
Been going to DM for years (live half an hour away) so tbh went too much. Went back for my birthday 2 years ago and had a great time. But when I went on this...it was music...and darkness and nothing was working which was a shame because this ride was great! Hardly anything worked and if it did, it resembled a zombie or a person having a fit...SORT IT OUT DM

GOLDEN OX Pirates of the Caribbean opened in 1967, Pirate Adventure opened in 1990. You’re probably thinking of the movie series.

That smell is part of my childhood
Never forget it shame its gone
Thats crazy i was thinking that befor i read the comments
It's a shame so much work went into something that was inevitably to be labeled a Disney knockoff.
This ride is a guilty pleasure of mine. It's so rundown and cheesy that it achieves an odd level of "greatness."

This is where my submechanophobia stemmed from😖
This place use to give me goosebumps! Loved the sounds and smells
I remember going on this ride in the 90’s when I was 7/8 yo, loved it!
-sarcasm on
It's just as good as Pirates at Disney World!
-sarcasm off
The little drop was the best part lol
I went on my birthday with my nephews once, the boat got stuck at the top of the slope, my 6 foot nephew started wildly bouncing in his seat at the front and then the thing went down WAY faster than it should have. good times!
Am i the only one to hear
"It smells a bit odd in here"
"Yeah Sorry ;)"
Oof their budget must have been miniscule compared to Disney's one
This looks way creepier than Disney's Pirates.
Should bring this back drayton manor
I remember this ride from new. Don’t know why they neglected it so much. It was really run down in later years. Shame.
There used to be an animatronic with a decapitated pirate - his head would be in a hook floating above his body and his eyes would be moving about. Thing gave me nightmares for years. I noticed it was not in this, did they remove it a while ago?
Are you sure that’s not from Valhalla
@@Stretchulous this was like 20 years ago so Valhalla didn't exist. I just assume they removed it as it was too violent

i know so much hard work went into creating such a great ride!
Amazing ride shame it closed and now parts being sold off
I used to go on this when I was like 5 ain’t been on it for like 11 years :(

This ride looks like it would’ve at least been tolerable if they had given it a better soundtrack and sped it up a bit
best sword fighting ever lol! 2:11
how is it a knock off? this came out way before any of the movies. 1990 i believe, 13 years before the first pirates movie
No, pirates of the Caribbean is actually a ride at Disneyland that's been there since 1967. The movies are based off of it
closed in 2015, now stuff inside going for auction this week
This looks terrifying, i'd pay a lot of money to ride this
I loved this ride as a kid thankyou for the video 👍
my favourite ride in drayton manor when i was 9. go on g-force.
G-force is dead
scary ride man look how the figures watch u so slowly
I remember going on this ride, still have a pic there
i know iz not a theme park, but for halloween, could you guys do field of screams?
I love this ride so much but it was closed last time i went to drayton manor coz they were refurbishing it.Going to drayton manor again tomorrow hope its open.
Does anyone know what the pirate is saying at the scene where someone is walking the plank cause i can only identify one thing
Nothings more irritating than some 'know it all' talking all the way through a ride, regardless of whether it's good or not. Id of turned around and shhh'd you.
What so because a boat ride is themed to Pirates its a knockoff of Disney?
It has very similar scenes too be fair 😅and was made after the ride came out
This is not a Pirates of the Carribean knock off.
Drayton Manor used to be my local theme park. This video does not truly convey how naff this ride is, but I love it anyway. Its so very crap and every year it gets worse as the mechanics wear out.
I would have to imagine, the fact that it is "decaying" if you will, DOES lend a certain uniqueness to it.
Lets just say anyone who's ever been on a Pirates of the Caribbean ride will be sorely disappointed. Mostly these days I go on it just to see how much is no longer working.

so bad that it is good XD..... still love the ride XD
Do you judge every ride by its engineering fail rate???
LOL the guy with 2 top comments is a beast!

Going Tommorow ;) This is the 8th time iv been drayton manor iv only been alton towers 5 :(
Why does sea of thieves remind me of this, amazing. I love this ride
Years 20 plus before pirates of the Caribbean
Am I the only one that gets annoyed when people talk throughout an entire ride? To me its like talking during a movie.
Is this ride still there ? Going next week
danny boy vids unfortunately the ride is Standing But Not Operating (SBNO)
D W ok thanks
Me: Mom can we have Pirates of the Caribbean ride?
Mom: We have Pirates of the Caribbean ride at home.
Pirates of the Caribbean ride at home:
This still open
this ride is the reason I have submechanophobia, but I still loved it anyway
i used to get nightmares about the guy being chased by the shark

its a good attempt
GO TO THORPE PARK NOWW IN SURREY
i like the tnt part
Does anybody know if this ride is still open i havent been dm for a while xx
It is not currently open as it is closed at the moment for renovation
+jeffery winkle do you know when it will be open im going on the 19th
Bethany Barton unfortuantly the ride will not be reopening. I'm gutted.
Yes,just like Pirates Of The Caribbean...if it were described to you over the phone by a stutterer with attention-deficit-disorder.
Yes,I've seen it (not actually ridden it,unfortunately...saw the video).
nothing against you, just was REALLY boring, sorry :/
America a knock of of Europe
a wannabe pirates of the caribbean
AND REVEIW THE HORROR MAZES
Very odd it is cool though
did I just hear someone say "This is every bit as good as disney's pirates of the caribbean"?> I hope he was being sarcastic
Geez,Europa Park's Piraten in Batavia is a better PotC ripoff than this!
Those are some of the crappiest animatronics I've seen in awhile.
this actual a knock off pirate of the caribbean it even has a mini
fall in the beginning and there was also a cage and a village.
Disney's Ptates has this ride beat. Disneyland/ Walt Disney World usually has the other Parks beat.
Actually this opened before POTC at disney world
the first version of the potc ride opened in disneyland in 1967. so this is essentially a knock off.
My bad!
no problem! seems like not to many people know that. i'm happy to share my knowledge.
***** i mentioned that potc in disneyland opened in 1967. wdw is different. disneyland has the first potc.
under 300 club
Nice. Ride
lol smells a bit odd?
lllllollllllllllllll
A boring version of POC
The classic tragedy here is how poorly done this ride is, especially the animatronics. Very anticlimatic indeed.
The poorly done animatronics make it spookier, which makes it cooler.
