Love the videos! I always watch when I can and really like the way you treat your hired hands!! I’m an apprentice diesel mechanic working out of a shop on a 60 cow dairy in Ontario Canada and can heavily relate to a lot of your videos! Keep up the great work!
Yeah wet chore gloves do keep your life interesting, they conduct electricity and cold real well when wet. Thanks for the video today. I don't miss doing chains, always needed to be put on when it was coldest day yet, a good north wind and wet, so the chore gloves could freeze to the chains as your trying to put them on. lol
On my JD 7410 I put 4 chains on up here in the mountrains of British Columbia. to keep them tight I use barb wire crossed and tighted by twisting the wire. Keeps the chains tight until April when the snow has melted
I remember one winter that we had to use a set of 3 railer chains on a single axle feed trk to get around because of the mud. That yr was the wettest yr that we had.
Great vid looks like they do a great job I remember year's ago dad had chains on car not sure if we can get them in uk now most people probably not know what they are☹️👍👍
If you still have traction issues, you can buy the cross chain in bulk, plus additional connector links and add in additional cross chains between the original ones. You will see as much of a difference as you did the first time.
I'm the only guy in my area that runs tire chains . I feed cows with my 4240 with a 156 loader I get around great beats a payment on a front wheel assist tractor you got to love winter with livestock lol
Hello and happy New year. You shoud get some other Chains for the smaller tractors you use for hauling the feeder wagons, look at: Tryg snow Chains here on youtube, they woud prevent you from sliding around when you drive in and out of the buildings. Best regards from Teddy in Norway.
those big tires on the big tractors are like plowing snow or what ever with aloader i had a 816 case with an 18 foot push blade plowed snow in store parking lots once you got it moving it would push trying to push starting out almost never worked especially on ice enjoy your day
Ya know I've done that a 100 times my self . But it's still funny as HELL watching someone else do it. 😂😃😂🤣😃😂 I seen my Dad react to it one day. All most pissed my self laughing.
I have seen vids from Europe where the trailers are powered for traction from the PTO. What kind of weight is that trailer when full of liquid? Great vid Andy, fun to watch thanks.
These Jamesway tankers would require a complete redesign to have powered axles, especially when the manure discharge pump is PTO powered. My Jamesway 5500 tri-axle weighs about 65k pounds loaded according to the owner's manual. It says an 8500 4-axle weighs about 98,250 pounds loaded on 850/50-30.5 tires, and less on smaller tires. The actual weight would vary a little according to the water content in the manure and the brake configuration (standard 1-axle or optional 2- or 3-axle braking like my 5500.)
Boss man you need to do some delegating. Start teaching those young bucks some skills. You shouldn't be paying them to watch you work. They're never gonna take the bull by the horns unless you make them. After watching you do the first tire. They should have understood how to do the other's or FIRE them and get some help that wants a job..
2-5-2020 Yes chains, helped with them many moons ago. Then they used off road chains, like now for rubber tired skidders. Thing was if spreader sank in had be quick on clutch, they dig a hole fast. Welding on a deck once, adding steel, leaned on her & loaded stinger bare handed. Been long time ago. No need for coffee on that next break. Thing was it was close to family jewels. Thanks Andy
To make them really tight an better traction deflate the tires down 1/2-3/4 down than put the chains on than reinflate Andy also helps keep the wear down on them
Honestly I don;t think you want chains too tight, they'll seat between the lugs and do less, you basically want them flopping under the tire as they come around and the tire lugs partially drive on the cross links
Hey a suggestion for u put a large block of timber in centre of chains drive tractor / vehicle up stop on block and manover chains around and lock down.
We have done that for years attaching chains to trucks, cars, 4x4s and tractors 🚜. Lay chains down on road place a 3" block in between open chain section drive vehicle up onto block and stop. Handbrake on. You can do left and right side together, manoeuvre chains over and lock down drive vehicle off all done. Pick up block. Hope this helps you.
If that slurry wagon had one less axle (at the front) you’d have a bit more weight on the tractor drawbar and better grip, wouldn’t you? But, compaction??
Ben Pattinson A lot of these larger tankers have the "weight transfer kit" that basically functions as a lift axle to do just what you're suggesting: increase drawbar weight. How well it works depends on circumstances.
Yep run tire chains on roadgrader and endloader all winter long plowing snow . Got to have them wont go anywhere with out them. Never take them off till snow is over
u guys are doing a great job, we thank u as Americans, for all u guys do for us, cause with out u guys getting the job done their is no America!!!just say'n !!!!!
we could use a 9320 our biggest is an 8420 and running with some of our 4K acres can be a struggle, also what transmission does that have on it a powershift or a quad? I really love the power shift in our 8420.
Farming Fixing & Fabricating I believe you could also get some sort of transmission similar to a quad range in those tractors and you had like a hi-low selector on the console much rather have powershift
Never ran chains without rubber stretchers on the outside. They never stay tight. We cut strips out of old tire tubes, install hooks on each end and these affordable stretchers will keep them tight.
We could never get away with chains that didn't have carbide picks on them on our farm. Our hills are a little steeper. Do you ever chain the spreader too? It can be a little surprising for the spreader to slide around and try to beat you down a hill.
*_@ Otto Seeger: Manure run off? Have you never had the privilege of stepping in manure? I highly recommend it for you at least once then, you'll know._*
I was thinking the same thing. any rain or melting snow and they're going to have issues. not sure where they are ,but where I'm from it needs to be knifed in or chiseled after the fact. at the very least we had to chisel 30 feet next to any water way.
With that chain around his neck just give him some gold teeth and your workers would be ready to spread some manure in the hood. I know there alot more money but the double ring or the field type work real good if it softens up some and the ground gets sticky....keeps the treads from filling with the mud. Rough ridding on the road though.
@@FarmingFixingFabricating that's not fun. I run Grouser tracks on my skid steer to get silage out of silo bags. I've had frozen chunks of mud get in the tracks and if the tire was low on air break the bead. Pain in the ass to fool around with them to fix a tire. Just be glad it's not wet enough you need those bear claw chains they use on log skidders. Lol
Seems like there ought to be chain sold in long lengths so you could cut off what you need to the right length rather than having to weld pieces together.
@@FarmingFixingFabricating Andy - have you thought about buying a 'barrel' of the cross chains for the 20.8 width range and making your own 'jadders' ? It would be cheaper than buying rear ends to wear out chains.

man i am glad to see i am not the only one running chains they make one hell of a difference with traction

it always amazing how much of a difference a little more traction makes.

We also put rubber straps to help take up the slack put them on our spreader tractor during the winter we always chain it up
I miss the spreading job I had so much. That's the only job I loved

Chain looks to be doing the trick 🤗
