    I'm about 13 pages into The Tsar of Love and Techno and I'm simply and immediately in awe. Can't wait to go through the entire text. 🌺

    Ok, I caught on late to your channel. Kudos to you for not being completely obsessed with only one niche of books. There's so many channels on youtube about young adult fiction books. Thanks for being diverse in your interest.

    Margaret the First sounds right up my alley. I was just trying to remember the name of The Signature of all Things so thanks, now I'll write it down on a list to make sure I don't forget again!

    I started the habit of reading beginning with fiction in my mother tongue malayalam and then slowly graduated to fiction in English.But for the last three years I am preoccupied with non fiction. Your video rekindled my interest in fiction.Thanks for that. I think I will begin with the night circus.sounds like an exhilarating read.Thanks once again for your video

    The Tsar of Love and Techno - Oh, I rarely notice covers, much less buy books because of them but I love that cassette image! I usually hate short story collections as well. It's like the samples of food you get at Costco. But if they're connected & tell some sort of full story, I can deal with that. Just saw a used copy on Amazon for cheap. May have to get it. Thanks!

    • @abookolive
      @abookolive  4 года назад +1

      I'm really not into short story collections either - I doubt I would have picked up The Tsar of Love and Techno if I hadn't already been familiar with Marra's work. It doesn't even feel like a short story collection with all the links between the stories.

    Lovely selection! Towles is one of my husbands very favorites, but I think he loved Gentleman even more than Rules. My son is reading The Night Circus right now and loving it! Is that Percer’s Uncommon Education I always see over your shoulder? It is on my shelf, but I don’t remember purchasing it. (Perhaps a Little Free Library pick?) Do you recommend it?

    • @abookolive
      @abookolive  4 года назад +1

      I do recommend An Uncommon Education! I feel like it was improperly marketed since it was pitched as a Secret History-type book when it has only a few things in common with it. It's a mix of a coming-of-age and a quiet campus novel. Cozy, yet sorrowful, with a more logic-based, stoic female main character. I dug it!

    I have both your top 2 books on my shelves having loved the other 2 I own by the authors (gentleman of Moscow and a constellation of vital phenomena). I’m too scared to pick them up in case I don’t love them. I’ve been saving rules of civility for a hot day as the cover gives those vibes but should I just get on and read it!?

    I'm still new to Booktube, but I've got the idea to do an annual update of my top favorite books (assuming I stick to it that long). Just an idea I wanted to mention!

    • @abookolive
      @abookolive  4 года назад +2

      It's definitely a good idea! I'm not sure how that would work for me with fiction since I'm a little picky about what fiction I like - my favorites tend to stay the same year after year. Most of these books have been favorites since 2016 or before, haha! But I'm sure someday an update will be entirely warranted.

    I’m not a reader but a professional vocalist and when you mentioned your love for Russia , I must turn you on to a young Russian female vocalist -age 17 -who is now an international superstar but her life reads like a novel. At age 3 her birth mother gave her up for adoption. Previously, her mother had 15 aborted pregnancies until she gave birth to Diana and didn’t want her and beat her , abused her , she was found on the street with a broken collarbone. She was so traumatized that when she was placed in an orphanage, she couldn’t speak until the age of 5 when she was adopted by a worker in the orphanage who noticed when she heard sounds from a song Diana would move in perfect rhythm and follow the songs lyrics. Her adopted mother hired a professional voice instructor and Diana at age 5 soon began to sing. The rest is amazing and if you have youtube , please react to the following:
    Her name is Diana ( pronounced Dee Ana) Ankudinova and she possess the most recognizable dramatic contralto voice in the world. There was a survey conducted by a ranking company that ranked the best female pop singers of 2020 and Diana was ranked Number 1. Even ahead of Demi Lovato!
    Diana Ankudinova .
    who many coaches, professional vocalists, and Reactors around the globe consider in possession of the most unique mesmerizing memorable amazing atavistic tribunal primordial shaman goddess voice in the world -any age. At age 14 her incredible and legendary performance of an old ritual wedding folk song titled “ rechenka” ( River in English) Is -to this day-considered by many professional vocalists and coaches around the world as the most unique and mesmerizing live performance by a vocalist -any age , in the history of Russian talent shows. EPIC snow Iconic. Please react to “ Rechenka” from the Russian contest “ you are super” ( youtube “ Diana Ankudinova Rechenka you are super). And along with “ Human” ( lowest possible female vibrato she’s a rare dramatic contralto ) and “ Wicked Game” contributed to her winning not only the kids “ you are super” contest for orphans and adopted children 2 consecutive years but catapulted her to international fame
    with millions of avid followers worldwide. And Famous Russian composer Igor has accompanied her on the piano on “ Tomorrow Is A Lie” Song performance. And -as previously mentioned-you might want to read a little about her tragic younger years abused and beaten by her birth mother and put up for adoption at age 3.
    You may want to continue your Ankudinova journey by reacting the year prior to “ rechenka” when she was 13!
    She entered her first kids contest in Russia where she sang a song that required masterful yodeling.
    It was a masterpiece, a tour de force, some say one of the best yodeling performances on any talent show but in this performance it was the controversial aftermath that prompted the audience to give her a 5 minute Standing Ovation. And at 13 her rendition of “ Me Voy” in Spanish was emotionally impactful and when I suggested that my Spanish language friends watch they were shocked and couldn’t believe the perfect pronunciation and emotional feelings she conveyed.
    And the following year and year thereafter she won the 2 “ you are super” Russian contests.
    After reacting to Rechenka and Wicked Game and Human Please react to “ yodel time” And you’ll witness a yodeling masterpiece. Some recent songs ( she’s 17) worth reacting to are from her channel. Please join her channel. “She performed “by your voice” a few week ago and is amazing and just released a few days ago her first MV called “into the sky” with hauntingly beautiful Nature scenery and images that enhances her emotional impact.
    All love in isolation from Miami Beach,
    Al
