Fantastic truck and you did a great job with it. I had its immediate predecessor with a 2BBL carb on it. It was frequently used to tow airplanes that weighed 9,000 to 26,000 lbs. Indestructible. Worked great for 10 yrs here and was sold to someone who used it for another 5yrs until it got totaled after hitting a deer one night. The stripes really make a nice fit with this one.
Never thought I could feel so sentimental watching a video about an old truck! My dad bought an '88 brand new when I was a kid, and gave it to me as my first vehicle when I got my license 10 years later. Still my favorite vehicle I've ever owned. Since he passed away 6 years ago it's been a dream of mine to find another '88 in good enough shape to work on and restore but didn't know if it was possible to find a decent one after all these years. This video makes me hopeful that maybe I'll find one eventually! My opinion, the decals look awesome! I love when a vintage vehicle looks as original as possible.
💥 Marty Mcfly would be proud. You need a roll bar/light bar like his though. Decals really set it off. Whatever you do don’t sell it to Whislindiesel!! He’ll destroy it. *Keep on tractoring!* 😁👍
Absolutely love it Josh! Takes me back to my teenage years! I never had to worry about people stealing my cars, because they were all 5 speeds. I even had a dead battery once, and was able to catch it in gear.
I got out of the business in 97. I simply can’t remember the V-6 in a compact. Probably old age 😂. It was a standard engine in the 4-Runner and T-100. The 4x4 compacts were designed to be abused and they were. 👍🏻
Josh thanks so much for giving this truck the respect it deserves I’m so glad you found it instead of other you tube counter parts , the truck would of had a much different life
These were bullet proof compacts. Many ranchers on E New Mexico/ West Texas drove them. I owned a 92, I was a Toyota mechanic. I saw a few million miles trucks on the 22RE the OEM motor. So easy to work on and maintain.
Wish I could find one of these. This was my very first truck that my mom bought me in 2004, fresh out of high school! Your videos are awesome, very fun and educational.
You did a fantastic job and the stripes look great. I just changed a 2010 ford ranger from white to bright yellow and striped it in Tonka Vehicle stripes and decals. Your truck is amazing and your choice to bring it back to its period is right on.
I had an "85" Marty McFly pickup. excellent truck. Only issue was rust. bed rusted off so I made it a flatbed. put 180k miles on it sold it because I just needed something better. Loved it!!
Two weeks ago i bought a 1997 2.7 toyota tacoma 4x4 with 20k on the odo. Pristine and flawless....had been sitting in a warehouse along with millions of $$ of other vehicles. Tires were 18 yrs old and new....replaced them immediately and started driving back to Arizona that night! Timmy C Arizona
I love the truck. I have an 87 I redid and will wind up redoing again after 15 years of use. I’d find the chrome tail light buckets for your truck. You can add most of the sr5 stuff. Clinometer, ac and power options.
Beautiful truck. I use to own 1989 Toyota 4-Runner either 3.0 V6, they are great trucks. It was a great find and hopefully a great buy. Toyota trucks forever. 👍
Awesome truck! I own a '92 Toyota Pickup and it's the only vehicle I've ever owned. I still think these old Yota Pickups are some of the best designed pickups of all time. I've been doing a lot of work to mine including some major body work. Next will be paint, and I was weighing the same option. . . Do I try to redo the decals or leave it blank. And I'm starting to lean towards decals. It still looks good blank, but something about the decals just feels right on these trucks. I think I prefer your truck with the decals. Especially the tailgate, man that looks good.
Great job, I had a 82 and a 89. Both were 5 speed. I wish I still had them. Now I have an ARMY green 2021 TRD Off-road V-6 auto and I love it. Took me awhile to find the ARMY green, but it was worth it. Only thing is now I’m missing the 5 speed, but the 6 speed auto is cool. I like that you can sport shift it. I had mine dyna tuned and got 49 hp. Well worth it…
I bought a brand new 1985 Toyota SR5 4x4 extended cab in black with gray graphics and all available options at the time. That truck was beautiful and I could kick myself for not keeping it. It had the same 22RE EFI engine and those motors are bulletproof if you took care of them. I miss that truck…
Nice rig but it's not an SR5. It's a base w/chrome package for that year (or a Deluxe). If true OEM SR5, it would have full gauge cluster including tachometer. Bucket seats, leather shift knob & console plus velour door panels, not vinyl. Also those stock grey steel wheels are base for that year. You can make it an SR5, I would. It's got great potential. Edit: You do have an SR5 rear bumper, those bumpers are rare in that condition! Looks good.

Thanks 👍
The stripes look great! Exactly what it needed and now it's as I remember them looking. Man, I miss my '93 Toyota, best truck I ever had.
I've owned my hilux for 25yrs. Use it every day and still love it.

Awesome little pickup. Love these old trucks. The stickers definitely bring out a better look.
Absolutely love it Josh! Takes me back to my teenage years!
I never had to worry about people stealing my cars, because they were all 5 speeds.
I even had a dead battery once, and was able to catch it in gear.
I worked every hour the sun was out the summer of 1992 before my senior year at VT to buy my SR5 V6. Best truck ever. Great find!

The stripes really set it off! 💕 And I definitely need one of those cup holders for my 88! 👍

What an awesome find! Great job with the additions you just did! I LOVE IT!
Wish I could find one of these. This was my very first truck that my mom bought me in 2004, fresh out of high school! Your videos are awesome, very fun and educational.
Amazing! That truck is my favorite Toyota of all time!!! It’s my dream truck…the decals enhances the look…great job

Darn fine truck all around. Scotty Kilmer must be doing his happy dance.
The stripes look amazing and complete the truck. One of the best trucks build back in the day and easy to maintain. 👍👍👍
I can tell you are having fun with this! Fun watchin you!
Yay! You're roll up doors are installed!
Looks Good. SEM trim paint dose wonders on your black bumper ends, black trim and front Toyota emblem background. I had an 87 4x4.
Fantastic ride Josh....great find.... watching from Ndola Zambia 🇿🇲🇿🇲🇿🇲
85 pounds!!!!! Good for you! It is soooo easy to put on weight.
I had an "85" Marty McFly pickup. excellent truck. Only issue was rust. bed rusted off so I made it a flatbed. put 180k miles on it sold it because I just needed something better. Loved it!!
Love the sticker package!
Heckuva find there. I think I recognize it from the movie "Black Hawk Down".
Love the stripes!
I wish trucks like this were still made. They make me crazy. Decals are a must. Awesome truck.
Really nice truck. Great find. I personally wouldn’t want the strips but it’s not mine. Hope you enjoy it. Thanks for sharing
Wow what a barn find! Really looks nice with the new parts and decals! Totally 80's vibe!
Awesome video. Truck looks so sick!!!!!
Totally finishes off the truck. Well worth the 7 hour time investment in my opinion. Great job Josh!

Hugs from Brazil!

Looks great Josh, that's a very nice truck! I love that there's still a few low mile ones out there..
They look awesome
My first new vehicle purchase was an 88 toyota just like that one except mine had a silver inverted check mark decal on the sides. I loved that truck
Looking very, very sharp Josh.
SWEET SR5!
I’m jealous..Lol… Great Find, That truck is bulletproof!
Looks great. All it needs now are new mud flaps and some of that back to black restore wipes for the plastic trim on the front bumper.
Turned out great! I have an 88 also ,that I need to give same makeover. Great job
Looks better with the graphics! Great job!
What a beaut! I agree with the 80s flare, looks so good on this
That's a real time capsule. The stripes set it off. Great job.
HECK YEAH to the OEM-style vinyl graphics.
I love the truck. I have an 87 I redid and will wind up redoing again after 15 years of use. I’d find the chrome tail light buckets for your truck. You can add most of the sr5 stuff. Clinometer, ac and power options.

Wow! Love the stripe. This looks better than new!
Beautiful truck. I use to own 1989 Toyota 4-Runner either 3.0 V6, they are great trucks. It was a great find and hopefully a great buy. Toyota trucks forever. 👍
Great job, Josh! I had a 91, same truck with the 22re engine. Amazing trucks. I don't know where you keep finding these awesome trucks!!!
No one cares stupid.
Sweet back to the future truck!!! yes siir nice !!!
I like the added touch of the decals. 😎👍
A buddy of mine had this exact truck new. His was red but it was a great truck. With the steel wheels, I like the decals.

Good job Josh!! Need to put some SRF accent decals on it.
WooooooooooooooHeeeeeeeeeeeeeeHeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!Alright!!!!! Stickers look good!!!
I was excited when you found that old red one in Virginia. The white truck is too nice to be a farm truck. Wish I could find one like that.
You got the find of a century!
Ihad reservations about the stripes but they look really good on there !
me too...I thought they might look bad...but they are great!
Sweet transformation
Yes the strips are awesome 💥💥 Fantastic improvement 👍👍👍
I usually like trucks clean no stickers or pin stripes but you can’t beat the look of a ole yota with the graphics pack
What about adding the 80s style double tube roll bar to the bed?
The Tacoma is a legend! Always wished the s10 would step up the game in the early 2000’s but they ended up going with square body gas hog i5.
pre-tacoma here back when they were just called Pickup
If Honda made a mini truck now, man it would be badass. Especially with that 2.4L motor they put in most of their vehicles.
Very nice job looks better then my 2001 4Runner SR5
The stripes work!
Wow, definitely ((SHOWROOM)) Quality. Pretty truck.
Interesting change up from the regular episodes. Neat little truck. Bet this little guy is going to get some use on the farm.
The Stripe Kit, Makes the SR5. She looks beautiful again.

Nice ride, I have 1985 loaded but it's not a 4×4
My dad had an 88'. loved that truck. MN winters absolutely killed the body though. I think 90 or 91 they went to a double walled bed.
Like the truck makeover.
Great little truck.
Wow...nice find 👊
Great looking truck
Good job! We do race cars and it’s a pain in the ass! Oh and you’re hired! Lol
Now you need some swampers and fender flares!
