I understood her role in the show, but Carmen was the epitome of an insecure teenager who hardly ever learned from her mistakes, which made it difficult to empathize with her character due to the extent. I mean honestly let’s be real here, if he cared about Carmen that much he would’ve actually done something to properly protect her.
Carmen said that she and Jason made a deal to pretend like they don't know each other so that nobody would pick on her. To Carmen, that was Jason's way of protecting her.
Nah it doesn't really work like that. If the popular girls at the high school found out that Carmen, the new girl, is dating the king of the high school they would be pissed. Think about how teenage high school popular girls feel. A new girl comes along who, in your opinion as one of the most popular and prettiest girls in school, isn't all that pretty and she somehow ends up with the king of high school but you haven't? It would make them extremely jealous and resentful. Jason wouldn't be able to keep them in check because they will always have it out for her due to jealousy.
She said that was part of the deal. If anyone knew that Carmen was Jason's girlfriend, they will start picking on her just like at her last school. Carmen and Jason both agreed that they would pretend to not know each other so that Carmen will be safe.
This scene always kind of confused me, like Jason seemed to be written like a perfect foil to George's paranoias about Carmen dating by being literally the most perfect kid any parent could hope for (straight A, all star quarterback who drives his disabled brother around), so when he suddenly blew her off it just confused me

Carmen should just ended her relationship with Jason she had no self esteem but doesn't realize how she can do better without him like if you need a guy because you feel low about yourself that's sad having a boyfriend is more than looks.
