As an adult watching this I actually agree with George. Carmen wanted to have the privilege of being an adult but not want the responsibility of being an adult. Like one of the sucky things about being an adult is paying your own bills. He may go to far by not providing her food since she is still a minor and it can be considered neglected. However, as for her doing her own laundry, taking the bus, and paying her own bills like rent and cellphone bills was more than fair and I wouldn't call it torturing Carmen. Couldn't the fact it is illegal to make your own 15 daughter to pay their cellphone bill, do their own laundry or make them take the bus to work. As for rent, maybe as long if George still provides for Carmen then it's okay. My friend's mom made my friend paid rent at 16 since she thought he was unresponsible with money and wanted him to teach him the value of the dollar, instead of blowing his money of the moment he got his paycheck. However, she didn't spend his rent money and still provide for him if he wasn't able to come up with the rest of the rent. When he turned 18 and was ready to go to college, he got his money back.

She wouldn't have dated Zack behind their backs, wouldn't have ran away from home, etc. Max wouldn't have been drinking when he was 15 either.

It's too soon. She'll actually do it if she doesn't realize that even what they're doing is taking it easy on her. She has a guaranteed room, doesn't have to apply and the rent is really good for a room in Los Angeles. They let her take apart her room (no go in pretty much any rented building). And at any time, she can admit defeat and have an easy way out.
George should’ve had her sign an agreement being the landlord. Could’ve listed what was and wasn’t allowed, like no loud music after a certain time, no guests after a certain time, other rules you’d expect in a boarding house.
It's because Angie and her family are Cuban, they don't have many mestizos there at all, they're either criollo, negro, or mulato, their indio population is miniscule. George's dad, Manny, in the show was rather brown. The skin color of the characters in the show is realistic and possible with what you could find in a Hispanic family, you're just mad that not everyone looks like a oaxaqueño or something.
I kinda of feel bad for the actress that played carmen, they really set her up as being a dumb spoil teen girl, i mean even max had some brains when it came down to it and the only time he acted stupid was the fact that his character was dyslexic so he was slow on learning stuff

I think her character represents a lot of Hispanic teenage daughters very well. I come from a Mexican family and I have only 1 sister and she also went through a phase like this, Carmen here is acting exactly the way that my sister did when she was also 15. I think this happens more often than not.
I love Carmen she’s like one of my favorite characters, she was very annoying… Like honestly made me so mad on most of the episodes but she definitely gave the show personality and she was so dense that it was super funny, always enjoyed watching her because I always knew something weird was gonna happen. I also really loved Veronica the most although she wasn’t a main character. The most annoying character ever on every single episode is Angie, she’s such a pushover and a nag …very annoying, not even in a funny way. 🧍🏽♀️

I feel bad for her character because if she was actually living with decent people who actually cared the way there daughter would dress and act she would've turned out to be really cool person. I know the father had a ruff childhood but that's no excuse for letting your own child turn out that way, there's no excuse.

He basically was in Carmens shoes with the bullying and a parent that constantly makes fun of her but she also has a second parent that shows compassion while living in a comfortable home with always having a nice meal on the table. George's personality turned out like that due to his childhood, he uses his comedic relief to avoid his emotions because of the trauma he had to deal with as a child and was never able to grow out of it since he never had a figure to look up to and teach him properly. You could say he should know better but some are so deep into their shell that it takes great trauma to break them out which he wasn't able to experience since he always avoided it with humor. It's a very difficult situation for both sides and its hard to blame either.

The one where Carmen's EX-Boyfriend claimed he dumped HER because he had sex with her and got what he wanted, so he bounced, setting up a chain of horrible events where her schoolmates were calling her a Slut and wrote Carmen Hopez on her house window and boys were trying to feel up on her breasts without her permission was so disgusting and disturbing. She even got into a fight with Piper who implied that she had lots of sex(Carmen was a VIRGIN) And that led to Carmen being Suspended. What REALLY happened was that SHE dumped HIM because he was smothering her or something like that. He admitted that he made the whole thing up on his part. Angie and George still felt that even though he DID admit that SHE dumped HIM and he lied about the sex thing, Carmen would still get bullied after her Suspension as the damage would already be done at that school. Carmen was transferred to private school. Sad how one lie from an ex boyfriend caused Carmen so much trouble.
