I think this poem is actually a prophecy. Act I represents how the creator sees something in the river of time(search the words: "ripples", "water", "goddes"). Act II is about Sephiroth. The first three speak about his past and present, and the last three speak of his future. Act III is composed of two parts. The first one speaks of the inevitable outcome. The last part is Sephiroth's response to the threath, that he will return. In Act IV, Sephiroth has already fallen into madness(check the first five verses). The remaining verses of this act speak of Sephiroth being already defeated, and Zack's death approaching. The first two verses of the final act represents Sephiroth's promise, that he will return despite being dead. The last three verses speaks of Zack's sacrifice to save Cloud. The three warriors are Sephiroth, Zack and Cloud. Sephiroth is the captured one, but he isn't a prisoner of madness. He is a prisoner of his humanity. Being "captured" by his humanity, Sephiroth couldn't fullfill his part of the prophecy. So Jenova comes into play and Sephiroth discovers he is not human, that he was lied to, so he vows revenge on humanity. The hero is Zack. He sacrifices himself for his friend Cloud. And Cloud is the wanderer. After Zack's death, Cloud is consumed by survivors guilt and he becomes a wanderer, as shown in the begining of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. In the same movie, Cloud(the wanderer) battles Sephiroth(the prisoner). They fought, but Sephiroth couldn't kill Cloud because he was his friend. This I say with proof. It was confirmed that Sephiroth didn't even fought seriously against Cloud. That goes to the conclussion that, in the end, Sephiroth regains a sliver of humanity. And now you must ask yourselves what was Genesis's role in all this? He was the PROPHET. He was always reciting the poem. The divines of the world of Gaia set it in motion so that Genesis would be the prophet by setting in motion so that Genesis finds that book and becomes obsessed with it. And Angeal? He was someone that could prevent the prophecy from fullfilling, so he was removed from the equation. What do you think? Leave a reply....
Eriksigal Raven Cloud and Zack were friends. They worked with Sephiroth since he was the Soldier-Commander. It is shown in the game that Zack spoke with Sephiroth. That makes Zack and Sephiroth acquintances. It does not matter that Cloud and Sephiroth aren't friends. Hell, even Sephiroth isn't Zack's friend, but a mere acquintance. But I think that the "3 friends who goes into battle" are really just on the same side, meaning they work for Shin-Ra.
I don't know, as this poem can be interpreted in a lot of ways, just depends on your point of view. For me, this poem is about Zack, Genesis, Sephiroth and Angeal. The hero: Sephiroth (before insanity), Zack (the second half of the story and his sacrifice) The prisoner: Genesis (imprisoned by his desire to get the Gift of Goddess and become a hero), Sephiroth (imprisoned by his insanity), Zack (imprisoned for years and separate from his beloved (Aerith)) Fly away: Angeal (AWOL from Shinra), Zack (being brought to Promised Land by Angeal)

For me, Genesis is not a lame character. Yeah, he may be a d**k in this game, but when he was defeated by Zack and met Minerva when the game almost end (before Zack's death), I just feel sad for him. He is among the most tragic character in FF in my opinion.
In my opinion, while he is not a lame character, one of the best actually, he is a lame villain. Actions do speak louder than words, and, while Genesis might have some amazing character, he doesn't have any epic deeds, or any strength.

Evelyn L. It's a cryptic poem that can be interpreted in many ways that explain the events of crisis core, it's beautiful, honestly I don't know how you can't like it, it's a great story and genesis's personality fits perfectly with him reciting it over and over.
ive never been sick of the poem, ive had it saved on my computer ever since i first played the game, even till this day i come back and re-listen to it
Just want to point out that this being 10 years old, at the end of the description OP asked for a FF7 remake for the ps3 (at that time) and now we legit have a Remake for PlayStation 4 (PS5 if you’re a BAMF who snagged one)
Everytime I listen to this all I can think about is how we got to know zack as a kid that had a dream to be a hero just go grow up and die a legend. Even tho legends never die you just Cant help hut cry man. Zack is hands down the best ff7 character

And here I am, coming every now and then to this poem. I it gave me time to reflect over the past ten or so years. FFVII and subsequent Advent Children and Crisis Core, it's one of the most enticing, immersive experience of tragedy and pain, for while the main characters had the best ending, they did not win. No one won, they just survived and went through. But none won.
Hath endured torment, to find the end of the journey In my own salvation And your eternal slumber Legend shall speak Of sacrifice at world's end my favorite bit
I don't know why, but when I see Sephiroth with Angeal and Genesis... The way he acts... Somehow makes me really sad. As if... Even though he was quite a bit arrogant about his strength, I can't see as if he would mind have been surpassed, nor he went too overboard on those moments they went "training" for fun, only got carried away with Genesis and even so, he was stopped by Angeal, which Genesis didn't really accept. I might be wrong, but I think Sephiroth's fate was undeserved, even if needed. Sometimes I wonder what if things happened differently... Would Sephiroth have been a hero to save the world instead of destroying it?
+Lonan Cavendish I think if things had been even slightly different it would have been Sephiroth and Zack fighting a Jenova powered Genesis at the reactor.
+Lonan Cavendish he was doomed from the start, even his parents didnt give a shit about him, he was dehuminized, abandoned, no one cared about him, everyone was cold and harsh to him, even genesis didnt liked him
Sephiroth WAS a hero, before he found out what he truly was. He was looked up to by everyone, and was basically Shinra's poster boy. Cloud, Zack, and Genesis all joined SOLDIER to be like Sephiroth, a hero.
it is so ironic yet so possible sephiroth the greatest soldier inspired so many young people like zack or cloud and yet his fortold fate was already sealed the inspiration of heros the one capable destroier of the world
The poem can be interpreted two-fold --- once from within Crisis Core, and another as Final Fantasy VII itself being predicted, or Crisis Core's second half after Angeal passes. #1: "When the war of the beasts brings about the world's end, the Goddess descends from the sky. Wings of light and dark spread afar; she guides us to bliss --- her gift... everlasting." The war of the beasts is Crisis Core; the beasts are Angeal, Genesis and Sephiroth --- those with wings of light and dark. The Goddess refers to Aerith and Holy saving the world; the world's end is Meteor and the prediction for its activation. In other words, Crisis Core --- and Angeal, Genesis and Sephiroth's conflict --- lay the conditions for Meteor to be cast, Aerith maturing as the savior (Goddess), casting Holy ("descending[s] from the sky"). Her gift is everlasting, because the Lifestream will repair the damage to Gaia and humanity will learn to live without abusing the planet. This is the introduction, and general explanation of Final Fantasy VII's chronology, and establishment of the relevant actors for the Black and White Materia's activation. #2: "Infinite in mystery... is the gift of the Goddess --- we seek it, thus, and take to the sky; ripples form on the water's surface; the wandering soul knows no rest." The second and third line explain Sephiroth's interpretation and perspective. This line also explains Genesis' view at the same time, because they are parallel; Sephiroth is the Hero, Genesis views himself as such. Sephiroth's Goddess is Jenovah; Genesis' is Minerva, whom he meets. Both men are established, at first, to be unable to understand these Goddesses. They seek to know, and become One-Winged Angels. The water and sky refer to the planet; the planet's affairs are altered by these mens' changed actions. These men become unshaken to find the truth behind their Goddesses. #3: "There is no hate, only joy; for you are beloved by the Goddess. Hero of the Dawn, Healer of Worlds, dreams of the 'morrow hath the shattered soul; pride is lost, wings stripped away --- the end is nigh." The intro refers to Sephiroth, as he realises who Jenova is and destroys Nibelheim. It also refers' to Genesis' death, meeting his Goddess. The end refers to Angeal, as he becomes a beast, loses his pride and wings, and his end comes. Sephiroth will also die after realising the love of his Goddess. The beasts died here, beginning the world's end --- Final Fantasy VII; but one more actor must be introduced, and detail must be provided. #4: "My friend, will you fly away now --- to a world that abhors you and I? All that awaits you is somber 'morrow... no matter where the winds may blow. My friend, your desire is the bringer of life, the gift of the Goddess; even if the 'morrow is barren of promises, nothing shall forestall... my return." This is actually a conversation between the actors: the first is between Angeal and Genesis and then Sephiroth and Zack; Angeal asks Genesis if he will leave, now that they are both winged and beasts; Sephiroth asks Zack if he will not leave, now that they both will be hated. The latter may be more of an interpretation by Zack of Sephiroth, trying to see any good remaining in him. Nonetheless, after Nibelheim, Zack and Sephiroth will be hunted, abhored by the world. The wind refers to Cloud, in the latter case. Wherever Cloud goes, whatever Zack does, somber 'morrow --- death --- awaits him. Not mentioning the Goddess (to Zack --- Aerith) makes his fate even more sad and apparent; he can't reach Aerith. The second line is a further question and then response by the characters in question in the former and latter cases: Angeal probes Genesis: his desire is the Goddess; Genesis says he will return, as the poem says; Zack questions Sephiroth looking for Jenovah, an ancient --- one Goddess of magic --- after Sephiroth seemingly being dead; Sephiroth knows he will return. #5: "My friend, the fates are cruel; there are no dreams, no honour remains; the arrow has left... the bow of the Goddess. My soul, corrupted by vengence, hath endured torment to find the end of the journey --- in my own salvation and your... eternal slumber. Legend shall speak... of sacrifice, at world's end. The wind sails over the water's surface --- quietly, but surely." This phase regards Angeal, Zack and Cloud; it may as well be the Prophecy of the Buster Sword. Angeal explains to Zack the cruelness of fate, possibly in regard to his previous hope that there may have been any good remaining in Sephiroth; the arrow (the soldier, the weapon, the son) of the Goddess (Jenovah) has left her bow to bring about the world's end, as the war of the beasts has done. Angeal admits: "My soul, corrupted by vengence, hath endured torment (fighting with Zack) to find the end of the journey (the end of the war of beasts); Zack responds: "In my own salvation and your (Cloud's)... eternal slumber," referring to his coma. Zack then concludes that his sacrifice will become a legend referred to at world's end (Meteor falling) --- which, it will, returning Cloud's memory. The wind is Cloud, as mentioned earlier; he will sail over the water's (the planet's) surface quietly, but surely. At world's end, Cloud will sail accross the planet. #6: "Even if the 'morrow is barren of promises, nothing shall forestall my return. To become the dew that quenches the land, to spur the sands, the seas, the skies... I offer thee... this silent sacrifice." Understanding that the fates are cruel, but content in his decision, Zack sacrifices himself. Jokingly and ironically, he begins this here by saying, as in the poem, "nothing shall forestall my return." This is exposited by the next line: "To become the dew that quenches the land..." Quenching the land means curing it of thirst; that would be healing the damage to the planet by Mako. To become this --- the one who saves the planet, who becomes a hero, Zack's dream --- he offers this sacrifice. Zack is stating that he will die for Cloud; he will carry on all that he must do, so even if he passes here, nothing shall forestall his return; a hero will arise and quench the land, save the planet! And thus, "When the war of the beasts brings about the world's end..." He (Cloud) will guide her (Aerith) to descend from the sky, to quench the land, and the wings of darkness will be clipped at world's end, bringing about a gift everlasting --- the world is saved.
Well done perfectly explained my friend. This game this story it's so deep. And each character has it's own story and tragedy. Each character is or was good willed even genesis(who was always good by heart) and sephiroth who also was used by his own parents, poor sephiroth never had a family and lost his close frnds also. Crisis core is full of sadness and a story of sacrifice(zack and angeal) but ultimately leads to positivity and good result for the planet.
The last act is something Genesis made up, if im not wrong. And I believe it exclusively refers to himself, after Zack helped him regain his pride. He, like Zack, wishes to become a hero. And he'll return when the world needs him most. Which should be in the remake.
THE THREE FRIENDS Sephiroth: captured Genesis:Fly away *as you see in dirge of cerberus* Angeal:hero *Zack gain his legacy and pass it in cloud, the true hero is his buster sword that been use until original*

"Even if the morrow is barren of promises nothing shall forestall my return." "Whatever happens let's always protect our honor. Soldiers!!."
Most heart breaking game I've ever played. If you played FF7 first, then you know how this will end, but you keep playing because you are a fan, so you torture your soul all the way to the end.

I remember downloading this specific video on my psp and reciting loveless with it. And now, we're getting a crisis core remaster in a few months. Oh how time flies.
So many memories. Even to this day.. this was my whole high school. This game brought joy, sorrow and even taught me a few things that I hold dear to me still. Honor. Even in the end. There's living legacies.
It's 2020 and i still have a big fat crush on Genesis. I wish Square Enix create a remake for Crisis core and give us more details about the 3 1st class Soldiers.
As a 12year old kid playing this beautiful game in bed on his psp.. goddamn the nostalgia is strong this loveless poem was beautiful for me back then and is still after more then 10years :‘) my favourite final fantasy because of that and i know there are better ones nowadays but i loved the cutscenes in crisis core. The immersion was just too strong.. and the end was also epic
Thank your uploading and editing this video with that great poem. I can't stop listening the poem. The content is so deep. It touch myself that tears are followed by this strong emotional poem. - My favorite lines: "The wandering soul knows no rest [...] My friend, the fates are cruel, There are no dreams, no honor remains, The arrow has left the bow of the goddess"
I always thought this could describe Zack's journey in Shinra. Being the hero after he defeats Wutai and becomes Soldier 1st. The wanderer when he leaves shinra and the prisoner after shinra captures him. And his silent sacrifice to Areth and Cloud when he gives his life to protect them.
"The three Friend" One is captured and fall in love with an ennemy. One flies away. The last one becomes a hero. The hero is Sephiroth. The one flying away is Angeal. The one captured is Genesis. (According to me) Zack Fair's destiny is a complicated puzzle of each destiny. For so much reasons although I can't find a place for Cloud. I still can't believe he gave up love and life to defend his friend Cloud.
thats real friendship dude stronger than love..... stronger than everything that is what a friend let become a hero..... he is always there for you even if he have to die
Crisis core will go down in history as the greatest game ever. I knew! I knew how it would end, yet i still fought those soldiers for as long aa the game would let me..and i cried like a baby when Zack died😿 what an incredible story!!
This is the only one game that makes me want to cry, seriously. Loveless is such a wonderful poem and Zack's death is so tragic... all of this gathered in a coherent set makes this game more than a simple game but rather a deep emotional experience.
“Even if the morrow is barren of promises...Nothing shall forestall...MY return!” This has gotta be one of the greatest poems of all time! Especially when Genesis is the one reciting it!! Thousands and thousands of thumbs up 👍🏾

She guides us to bliss, her gift everlasting.
Infinite in mystery is the gift of the goddess
We seek it thus, and take to the sky
Ripples form on the water's surface
The wandering soul knows no rest.
There is no hate, only joy
For you are beloved by the goddess
Hero of the dawn, Healer of worlds.
Dreams of the morrow hath the shattered soul
Pride is lost
Wings stripped away, the end is nigh.
My friend, do you fly away now?
To a world that abhors you and I?
All that awaits you is a somber morrow
No matter where the winds may blow.
My friend, your desire
Is the bringer of life, the gift of the goddess.
Even if the morrow is barren of promises
Nothing shall forestall my return.
My friend, the fates are cruel
There are no dreams, no honor remains
The arrow has left the bow of the goddess
My soul, corrupted by vengeance
Hath endured torment, to find the end of the journey
In my own salvation
And your eternal slumber.
Legend shall speak
Of sacrifice at world's end.
The wind sails over the water's surface
Quietly, but surely.
Even if the morrow is barren of promises
Nothing shall forestall my return.
To become the dew that quenches the land
To spare the sands, the seas, the skies
I offer thee this silent sacrifice.

"Nothing shall forestall my return"
me: JUST COME BACK ALREADY DAMN IT!! IT'S BEEN YEARS HUHUHU
Maybe in the remake hmmm
I think he appears in dirge of cerberus disguised
@@TANGER840 please no the one that appeared at the end of DoC was horrible, it was literally just a really bad cosplay and with even more terrible voice acting
@@takaharamaragara1392 yeah that one lmao, i know its really bad but its something

Loveless
*"Even if the morrow is barren of promises
Nothing shall forstall my return."*
I offer thee, this silent sacrifice . . .
Genises' final verse to Loveless was always my favorite.
Yea notice the only verse to repeat
"Even if the marrow is barren of promises, nothing shall forstall my return." Must be important right?
Tim Brake Meaning Sephiroth. The poem completely narrates FF7 almost to a tee.
And yet.. he returns in the secret ending of ff7 dirge of cerberus. Fk square no more ff7 sequels.
Ten years later, it is still one of the most beautiful piece of writing I've ever come across
For me, Genesis is not a lame character. Yeah, he may be a d**k in this game, but when he was defeated by Zack and met Minerva when the game almost end (before Zack's death), I just feel sad for him. He is among the most tragic character in FF in my opinion.
Supa Copper and that he was treated like shit only because he is different, which wasnt his fault its nothing?
In my opinion, while he is not a lame character, one of the best actually, he is a lame villain. Actions do speak louder than words, and, while Genesis might have some amazing character, he doesn't have any epic deeds, or any strength.
Supa Copper its zack dick - zack always saying crap like: "wings symbolize monsters" -he is that kind of arrogant bitches who makes others suffer he reminded me these critters who killed lucys dog in elfen lied and tortured nanas sister
hedgehogsonic11 and what?
Eriksigal Raven The rest of the comment reads," Genesis might have some amazing characteristics, he doesn't have any epic deeds, or any strength."
lol i recited this as a poem for a competition and won :P
Nice man. Zack is proud... I can feel it...
They will know beauty in games.
Yoshihiro Togashi Ikr he is not beloved by the goddess
Yoshihiro Togashi who plagiarized the original author of loveless
Brian Dean Who is the original author of loveless?
that awkward moment when you find out you know the whole thing and recite it with genesis...-_-
Hehehehe.
Me too.
me too
the awkward moment when you discover you know the whole thing and recite it as you walk where ever you go...
Even if the morrow is barren of promises, nothing shall forestall... my return.
I know it by heart too, even now I could recite it from time to time. The lyrics are deep and beautiful.
it is horrible that I have listened to this, and read it so much, I have quoted it in normal conversations... I am becoming Genesis slowly but surely.. help me
You're a hero! That's great... oh whait
Yeahhhh
You've been reading too much "Loveless", bro! What happened to dreams and honor?
"Dreams and Honor hath the shattered soul. Pride is lost. Wings stripped away, the end is nigh"
I personally like Genesis
My friend and I memorized this is middle school. We got made fun of for quoting it all the time but it's still a pretty fond memory for me
playing crises core i got so sick of hearing that poem. but now that ive heard the whole thing i never realised how truelly beautiful it actually is.
well done :)
Evelyn L. It's a cryptic poem that can be interpreted in many ways that explain the events of crisis core, it's beautiful, honestly I don't know how you can't like it, it's a great story and genesis's personality fits perfectly with him reciting it over and over.
firecracker 91 I wish my english was better😭
ive never been sick of the poem, ive had it saved on my computer ever since i first played the game, even till this day i come back and re-listen to it
Me too
I never like it either but then I came back one day.
10 years later and I'm still crying.
Gonna make a remake of this. ;-)

""I will never be a memory. "
I don't know why but this poem, and genesis's story just makes me want to cry.
I've hope Genesis will return one day... One day... someday...
i think we will see them all in the remake part 3

my favorite bit
+Lonan Cavendish
I think if things had been even slightly different it would have been Sephiroth and Zack fighting a Jenova powered Genesis at the reactor.
+Lonan Cavendish he was doomed from the start, even his parents didnt give a shit about him, he was dehuminized, abandoned, no one cared about him, everyone was cold and harsh to him, even genesis didnt liked him
The point about Sephiroth is that the person he was essentially dies the moment he finds out about why he is what he is.
Sephiroth WAS a hero, before he found out what he truly was. He was looked up to by everyone, and was basically Shinra's poster boy. Cloud, Zack, and Genesis all joined SOLDIER to be like Sephiroth, a hero.
it is so ironic yet so possible sephiroth the greatest soldier inspired so many young people like zack or cloud and yet his fortold fate was already sealed the inspiration of heros the one capable destroier of the world
I cant explain it. This idk touches my heart and soul and has so much meaning
My friend, the fates are cruel, there are no dreams, no honor remains. My favorite. Its so true
I want Genesis to read me a bedtime story
He did ❤
Same
Sephiroth will be a better choice.
Am I the only one who can't get that poem out of my head? That's what I thought
I recite it all the time.
+William Côté (Sephiroth's son) "How can I not...When you've beaten it into my head?" [Cit.]
+William Côté (Sephiroth's son) I GOT IS STUCK IN MY HEAD!!!!!!!!!!!! KILLL MEEEEEEEEEE
The poem can be interpreted two-fold --- once from within Crisis Core, and another as Final Fantasy VII itself being predicted, or Crisis Core's second half after Angeal passes.
#1:
"When the war of the beasts brings about the world's end, the Goddess descends from the sky. Wings of light and dark spread afar; she guides us to bliss --- her gift... everlasting."
The war of the beasts is Crisis Core; the beasts are Angeal, Genesis and Sephiroth --- those with wings of light and dark.
#2:
"Infinite in mystery... is the gift of the Goddess --- we seek it, thus, and take to the sky; ripples form on the water's surface; the wandering soul knows no rest."
The second and third line explain Sephiroth's interpretation and perspective.
#3:
"There is no hate, only joy; for you are beloved by the Goddess. Hero of the Dawn, Healer of Worlds, dreams of the 'morrow hath the shattered soul; pride is lost, wings stripped away --- the end is nigh."
The intro refers to Sephiroth, as he realises who Jenova is and destroys Nibelheim.
#4:
"My friend, will you fly away now --- to a world that abhors you and I? All that awaits you is somber 'morrow... no matter where the winds may blow. My friend, your desire is the bringer of life, the gift of the Goddess; even if the 'morrow is barren of promises, nothing shall forestall... my return."
This is actually a conversation between the actors: the first is between Angeal and Genesis and then Sephiroth and Zack; Angeal asks Genesis if he will leave, now that they are both winged and beasts; Sephiroth asks Zack if he will not leave, now that they both will be hated.
#5:
"My friend, the fates are cruel; there are no dreams, no honour remains; the arrow has left... the bow of the Goddess. My soul, corrupted by vengence, hath endured torment to find the end of the journey --- in my own salvation and your... eternal slumber. Legend shall speak... of sacrifice, at world's end. The wind sails over the water's surface --- quietly, but surely."
This phase regards Angeal, Zack and Cloud; it may as well be the Prophecy of the Buster Sword.
#6:
"Even if the 'morrow is barren of promises, nothing shall forestall my return. To become the dew that quenches the land, to spur the sands, the seas, the skies... I offer thee... this silent sacrifice."
Understanding that the fates are cruel, but content in his decision, Zack sacrifices himself.
Bro joined the loveless study group
Yet people all around the fandom says that Loveless it's just gibberish

Same here, yet it's really frustrating that there is a small group of fans who hate him for stupid reasons and then they act as if everyone else has the same feeling.
The way he says “Pride is lost, Wings stripped away” sounds so tragic. It sounds like he lost all hope and succumbed to his inevitable fate.
After watching several times, I am now obsessed with this poetry.
"There is no hate only Joy, for you are beloved by the Goddess Hero of the Dawn, Healer of worlds. Dreams of the morrow hath the shattered Soul, Pride is lost wings stripped away the end is nigh." i love that verse of Loveless it's quiet beautiful if you look beyond the words of this poem you will see the true beauty of it. nice song really sets the mood of the poem. gotta love the Price of Freedom.

Now that the story has shifted they might start adding crisis core segments into the sequels. Expect to see genesis, Angeal and Zack.
So many memories. Even to this day.. this was my whole high school. This game brought joy, sorrow and even taught me a few things that I hold dear to me still. Honor. Even in the end. There's living legacies.

And his silent sacrifice to Areth and Cloud when he gives his life to protect them.
i always took this poem as the Life of Genesis, Angeal and Sephiroth their the three characters of Loveless well that's what i've always thought
Ville Byron
Thats exactly what ive thought too.
Genesis was such a fascinating character.
"The three Friend"
One is captured and fall in love with an ennemy. One flies away. The last one becomes a hero.
The hero is Sephiroth. The one flying away is Angeal. The one captured is Genesis. (According to me)
Zack Fair's destiny is a complicated puzzle of each destiny. For so much reasons although I can't find a place for Cloud.
I still can't believe he gave up love and life to defend his friend Cloud.
Angeal = hero.
Sephiroth = captured bro.
Genesis = da flying bro.
cloud is love of zack

This is the only one game that makes me want to cry, seriously. Loveless is such a wonderful poem and Zack's death is so tragic... all of this gathered in a coherent set makes this game more than a simple game but rather a deep emotional experience.
I don't mean to to be that person but 2021 and this still has me in tears every time! My favorite piece of music and a poem most beautiful!
