What really hit was the silence a singer feels at the end of a song. Alone. On stage. The tears she shed. Is REAL.
As someone who grew up in musical theatre… when you perform from the heart in front of hundreds and thousands… it isn’t reality anymore. You literally poured your life and soul out into the performance and just that split second to snap back to reality and shed those tears of beauty is the sweetest thing ever.

Just played the ff6 pixel remaster, and hearing Celes sing made my heart happy. I feel like Celes and Aerith would've become friends. Locke and Cloud would've probably been friends too. Terra and Nanaki. Barret and Cyan. Yuffie and Relm/Gau. Cid and Edgar. Setzer and Cait Sith. Tifa and Sabin. I could see the ff6 and ff7 cast getting along well, very similar spirits.

What was the inspiration behind No Promises to Keep?
Uematsu: Since it is a ballad, I wanted to make it absolutely electrifying. I was asked to make the song so that the key phrase would play in repetition, and that’s when Harry Nilsson’s “Without You” came to mind. I took inspiration from it and decided to repeat a key phrase in the chorus.
How did you feel when you first listened to “No Promises to Keep?”
Uematsu: This is the first time I’ve heard this, and I’m glad she sensed exactly what we were aiming for. “No Promises to Keep” is a love song. I wanted it to exude a sweet feeling, but at the same time, evoke the complex feeling as Aerith confessed her feelings. I tried to build up the song as it climaxed, exactly as Loren described
Was there anything you paid attention to when singing “No Promises to Keep”?
Loren: I wanted to get to know Aerith well, and I also wanted to depict her relationship with Cloud. So, for me to channel her fragile and pure personality, I needed to change certain elements of my natural vocals to match up with her character.
No Promises to Keep was inspired by, “Without you” I just listened to the version Mariah Carey sings in Tokyo and wow, you need to listen to it.

This entire sequence and the play before I think joins the pantheon of top tier Final Fantasy moments, it took my breath away.

As a grown ass 35 years old man, I am here to report that tears were shed last night when this happened on my screen.
I am rewatching it now as I am tearing up again. This was such a powerful scene in terms of imagery and lyrics.

I always had an emotional attachment to the original Final Fantasy VII from when I was a child, then I got to start playing the original again as an adult in preparation for the Remake Series. Playing through Remake & Rebirth so far bring back so many great memories and getting to play through scenes albeit reimagined like this are all kinds of lovely! And there've been quite a few tears.
I fell in love with this song even more since Nojima confirmed It's about Elymra, Zack, Cloud, Tifa, her real mom, and other people she cares about. So so so touching that she hopes she can be with the people who enhanced her life.
Jessie, Wedge and Biggs showing up also makes alot more sense now 🥲 Along with Aerith's speech at cosmo canyon. The essence of Aerith's character has always been about the planet, its people and the destiny of her carrying those burdens. She has so much love for everyone and those she cherishes ❤
He confirmed nothing. Only that his Japanese lyrics leave room for interpretation and the possibility for Aerith to sing about other people. In the end, the final song is interpreted by 99% of the people as a love song between two people, whether some people like it or not.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth realy made for tribute to Aerith
Came back here after witnessing this on Chapter 12. I really cried 2AM in the morning, because of this scene. This is just purely magical. The emotions the song brought out of us players, especially we have invested in the characters and in the story. FF7 Rebirth is just on a whole 'nother level. Square Enix, thank you for this game! The remake of FF7 was truly worth the wait and I can't wait to finish the FF7Rebirth and for the final installment of this game.

She cries at the end of Tifa’s route too; I know because I had Tifa for the date and Aerith still cried.

What was the inspiration behind No Promises to Keep?
Uematsu: Since it is a ballad, I wanted to make it absolutely electrifying. I was asked to make the song so that the key phrase would play in repetition, and that’s when Harry Nilsson’s “Without You” came to mind. I took inspiration from it and decided to repeat a key phrase in the chorus.
How did you feel when you first listened to “No Promises to Keep?”
Uematsu: This is the first time I’ve heard this, and I’m glad she sensed exactly what we were aiming for. “No Promises to Keep” is a love song. I wanted it to exude a sweet feeling, but at the same time, evoke the complex feeling as Aerith confessed her feelings. I tried to build up the song as it climaxed, exactly as Loren described
Was there anything you paid attention to when singing “No Promises to Keep”?
Loren: I wanted to get to know Aerith well, and I also wanted to depict her relationship with Cloud. So, for me to channel her fragile and pure personality, I needed to change certain elements of my natural vocals to match up with her character.
No Promises to Keep was inspired by, “Without you” I just listened to the version Mariah Carey sings in Tokyo and wow, you need to listen to it.

Jesus Christ man…I haven’t cried in over a decade. Lost close people, had some hard times. Then this shit comes along hits me like a freight train with nostalgia and tears me up because I know what’s coming. Haven’t beat it yet. Love this game. Rebirth is a masterpiece in my opinion.
