Main difference is obviously, the og players know how it ends But in universe, it works because Aerith now has Sephiroth's ability to appear to anyone connected to the lifestream, which is how he periodically appears to taunt Cloud throughout Parts 1 and 2
I’d just play the original man outside of graphics this remake series doesn’t really enhance anything it be better off being an anime tv show rather than a video game
In the original game, Aerith did mentioned that she had dreams of riding in the airship but during that time, Cid had not hijack that airship yet. When Aerith took interest in the airship, Cid was not the owner of that airship yet. There is that scene where Cloud had to sneak around dressing up in Shinra uniform. So while the rest of the party snuck on board with Rufus not noticing anyone acting strange, Aeris did mentioned later on that when she saw the airship, she took interest in it. Too bad Sephiroth killed Aerith before Aerith even had a chance to ride the airship. Compare that to the video you showed, Aerith is just watching her former party member leave instead of taking the ride. I know only Cloud can see Aerith but nobody else can't. Aerith's physical body may of took interest in the airship but it seems kind of different that Aerith's ghost body is not obsessed in riding that airship. In the original game, Aerith dies in Disc 1 and Cloud's party member do not get to ride the airship until Disc 2.
I wish Aerith could have comforted her somehow. They had a pretty long walk to get from the City Of Ancient to the Tiny Bronco so I am hoping Aerith was giving Cloud a briefing on not letting the cat out of the bag on her being okay, just "displaced" because Aerith doesn't want any more multiverse BS making things more confusing until she can sew up this mess! I have no doubt Aerith will see Cloud and Tifa and the rest again, living or dead. She can't let Tifa carry that weight forever!
This definitely made this feel a million times worse. I was ready for her death personally but I didn’t take into account how much they rest of the party will handle it. Tifa crying just breaks my damn heart I can’t take it.
Man, Tifa is going through it. She’s lost both of her homes (Nibelheim and 7th Heaven), her father and best friend were both murdered by a crazed psychopath with a god complex, and the man she loves is rapidly losing his mind right in front of her, and she can do nothing about it. If anybody needs a hug right now, it’s her.
When he yelled “ILL KILL YOU” at Sephiroth, I felt that shit. They did a fantastic job at showing the relationship each party member had with each other this go round.
To me, Aerith and Barrett have the most emotional depth in the entire series. He was my favorite character even back then so guess I'm bias. Even in the OG when I was able to select Barrett getting the date with cloud on the gondola I cried laughing at how he shot the holograms from inside the gondola. MY FAV.
@@stephengeist344Aerith went out of her way to save Marlene and it's probably eating Barret up inside that he couldn't protect Aerith after promising Marlene he would help her. Barret feels like he let both down along with Elmyra but he's gonna keep going and pay up by destroying Sephiroth or his life.
They did so well with Cloud’s mental state in this game. Even in the end with him talking with everyone you can tell something is off, so can Barret and Tifa. The payoff to his real memories and identity is going to be great
He is so messed up mentally since the beginning of Remake. This ending just makes it 100% clear how messed up he is after Aerith's death and he talking to her ghost or in her different universe version makes it more evident. Tifa and Barrett look shocked like they know he is going to talk to "Aerith" that they can't see and he looks like he is talking to himself. Notice how Tifa doesn't even look at him going in the plane. She probably feels insulted that Cloud keeps talking to himself and "Aerith" (who knows if he is crazy or if he really does see her?) and she would scream at him telling him to stop it.
@@nogoodnameleftor they think hes being oddly callous towards her death and dont understand why he’s acting the way he is. Theres so many ways to interpret this ending its great
@@Zephyr16Cloud is breaking down but the Aerith connection is legitimate, but it does make him look 3 times worse off to everybody in the party. Now that he can see legitimate issues with the reality they are in, but everybody else can't see it, they are losing trust in him by the hour. Playing right into Sephiroths hands.
@@Topaz-zk4zkIt's literally one of the first things you do post Aerith's death which is one of the most jarring and hilarious examples of how the OG FF7 is a goofy mess. I love its earnest goofiness.
Yeah her and Aerith were best friends in this version of the game. Hell I'd go so far to say that Aerith might have been Tifa's first/only female friend. Edit: Since Jessie seems to be older then Tifa, and more of a mentor/colleague.
The way youre able to see how Cloud's mental stability just gets worse and worse throughout the ending sequence is omg SO GOOD and heartbreaking, seeing the MC slowly losing his mind while still trying to keep his shit together is so interesting to watch
That's not it. Aerith uses the lifestream to project herself in other worlds. It's why remake aerith knew the events of ff7. Sephiroth learned the same thing in advent children. During cloud's date dream sequence, sephiroth specifically mentions that aerith has been hiding in a dying world
Damn, I think Square Enix is trying to get Cloud mental breakdown in part 3 on to the level of Fei Fong Wong, cuz this shit is getting more darker and heavy compared to OG!! And this build up is perfect to make his mental breakdown in Part 3 more impactful!! I like the way they're setting us up!!
SquareEnix did an amazing job showing Cloud's broken mental state, huge improvement from the OG. Makes Tifa's role much more important in the third game.
Man the shot of the plane flying into the distance while Aerith remains alone in the grasslands, watching the party move forward without her, is one of the most heart wrenching scenes ever😓
In the original PS1 game there was some controversy/conspiracy theory about Aerith still being alive, because the game (the backcover I believe) shows a pic of her watching the highwind take off as she watches, even though in the PS1 game she dies before seeing it. Kind of neat how they wrap that up in this scene.
@@jeff-ds2prAerith did marvel at the highwind when they snuk up Junon in disc 1. She asked Cloud if she could ride that airship someday, to which Cloud said yes. In disc 2, the whole party gets to ride the airship except Aerith.
I'm glad this game focus more on Aerith and Tifa's friendship. Because some people always think both have animosity to each other cause of love triangle thingy. so I'm glad that they've shown that Aerith's death impacted Tifa as well
@@luiousy7329I think Nomura said he wants to tie up the trilogy in a way so it stays connected to Advent Children, so he's still definitely smoking something.
3:15 is quite interesting. Its almost like the 2 party members who know him best (Tifa and Barret) are reluctant to trust him because of his deteriorating mental state. Tifa doesn't say a single word to Cloud.
Yea that parts really good. Despite having reservations about the timey wimey nonsense they really nailed the characters and their interactions. Cloud is babbling about sky illusions, Barrett knows something is up. Looks to Tifa since she is the one who knows Cloud best, but she is too lost in her grief. Basically tells Cloud in a round about way to get it together. Cloud meanwhile has reverted to his Soldier persona, even the delivery of his lines here is similar to the 1st Mako Reactor assault. He says he can handle it and rather than be reassured Tifa looks some complex blend of, hurt, confused, dissapointed? She just lost Aerith and now Cloud is back to his facade or empty self. I guess if they keep getting the characters right I don't mind if they make the ending some obscure Kojima on 8 marijuanas tier psychobabble
I think they did an incredible job of filling in the gaps from the original. They shouldn't trust him, and they should be angry at him for a while, since a lot of his breakdown caused Aeris' death. I think Tifa is going to be really cold to him in part 3 until Mideel when the real Cloud shows up.
he only knows where he is because of his degradation, he doesn’t wanna admit it, but he’s already having the ability to sense and want to follow sephiroth alongside the degraded robed men who were former SOLDIERS.
Ending with the text "No Promises Await At Journey's End" is so powerful. Reminds me of how they ended Cowboy Bebop with the text "You're Gonna Carry That Weight..."
Aerith is real here. Nanaki reacts to her touch as his species is very attuned to the lifestream and that’s where Aerith’s spirit is. For some as of yet unclear reason only Cloud can see her clearly, probably for the same reason only he can see the rift in the sky
She’s talking to him from the lifestream much like she does in advent children. The tear in the sky confirms that which is also the same tear you see in the OG when Cloud and Tifa are in the lifestream in Mideel.
She's in the lifestream. Of course she's real. Nanaki can sense the planet almost as well as her. You guys and your timelines. This is a story about life and death and coping with it. Accept it.
Its jenova not aerith. Everything she says she contradicts what the real aerith was telling cloud in the Forrest and in the goodbye church scene in the other realm. "Jenova will become anyone to fool her pray" was a huge theme this game yet we never see it come to fruition to the main party....except here.
@mohammadalhusaini810 also wanna point out jenova does this exact thing to red xIII in the OG tricking him into giving up the black materia by posing as Tifa. Lifestream aerith is always depicted with a green mist floating around her. You see none of that in the final scene.
Its because thats how death works...it leaves a hollowness in you because the person is now gone..its no coincidence in the OG game after she dies you only get 3 quick glimps of her and thats it. death takes ppl you love away from you they tried to have their cake and eat it..shes dead ..but shes still here...its nowhere near as impactful ..as having a character building up a relationship. Building levels limit breaks. And then they're just gone. The finality of death is brutal. and the players don't really get that in the remake.
Aerith says in the sleeping forest that she'll handle Sephiroth, and Cloud should worry about herself. But here she says "You promise?" Basically going against what she said in the forest when Cloud says he'll defeat Sephiroth. I think it's just Jenova or the black materia fucking with Cloud. This scene makes me feel uneasy rather than comfortable
@@Rezo2486 The whole game Sephiroth says that Jenova takes the forms of those you hate, those you love. I think it's all the trick to bring the black materia to Sephiroth
Kinda crazy how no matter hoe good in game graphics get, we long for the current CGI quality. I remember thinking that once we get to OG FF7 FMV quality that would be as good as graphics could get..
@@Pawnband HAhaaa IKR. I remember back in the day I was starting to dabble in 3D modeling and animation, and I literally aspired to reach the level of complexity of those cutscenes. I also may or may not have copied the style and sound design too.
I love the fact that Red is there trying to comfort Tifa. I didnt cry until i saw how hard tifa took aeriths passing. God i cant wait for the next game. Bravo SquareEnix 👏
Them juxtaposing Cloud being the only one to see Aerith, and Cloud being the only one to see the tear in reality from Zack's world is to show that Aerith is real. She is just in her own world. Cloud unknowingly has the ability to see things from other worlds, but due to having a destroyed mental state thinks they aren't real. Forgot that Crisis Core remake was called "Reunion". Didn't play that one yet.
That's what I think. I don't buy that Aerith is dead. He saved her, then it switched to another world where he didn't and from then on everything got murky as far as which world is which.
@@jakedematteo2172 Idk think about that scene. He stopped Sephiroth from stabbing her, then it switched and did that fuzzy thing and I think it changed to another world where Sephiroth did kill Aerith. When the rest of the party came to and saw Aerith dead, it was still doing that glitchy other world thing. I think Aerith is still alive just somewhere else.
Also don't forget that Nanaki previously mentioned that he had some kind of "foreseeing" ability, but it was taken away by the Whispers the same way they sucked Aerith's memories and White Materia dry. So that's probably why he was able to sense her as well.
So that's how Materia is implemented in weapons. I thought you embed the sphere in one of the holes, but what it does is that the Materia sphere merges with the weapon itself. Cool
@@shiro7209 Oh yeah. Now I recall, when the 2 other clones (Loz & Yazoo) tried to engage Cloud after Sephiroth battle, their arms were glowing with materia. Practically turned themselves into living nukes.
Actually... what you thought is correct too. Coz you can see cloud's buster sword 's holes are equipped with Materia. Maybe he wants to hide the black materia from the rest, so he sort of make it blends it to his sword.
I think it’s just one of those moments where the character keeps something in some hammerspace. It’s not shown because the Buster Sword by right is supposed to have only 2 slots, and they’re already occupied
Aerith seeing them fly away is very similar to a picture from the OG that was supposed to be from cut content. It makes me wonder if they are reusing ideas that didn't make it into the OG, so maybe they had it all planned out 30 years ago. o_O
They DID mention there was a lot of cut content from 1997 due to time constraints or technical constraints that they wanted to bring back for the Remake project.
I'm sure we can all agree that Cloud's behaviour isn't normal. How he's unaffected while the rest, especially Tifa and Nanaki, are clearly upset, it's unsettling. Aerith herself seems to be aware, she says goodbye as the rest of the party flies off, because they are going on living and she isn't. She's most likely one with the lifestream and will "exist" in the same way she does in AC, probably lied to Cloud in the same way her and Tifa have been hiding the truth the rest of the game, to delay his inevitable existential crisis.
I think he talking to himself at the end (well, he thinks he's talking to Aerith...or maybe he really is?) makes it apparent that he has been crazy ever since the beginning of Remake. We just have to observe carefully and see that he hasn't been sane at all this whole time. Remember how he sees Sephiroth and everybody else can't.
This is not Aerith in this cutscene. I think it's Jenova. earlier, Aerith says "I can take care of Sephiroth, leave him to me". Aerith does NOT WANT Cloud fighting Sephiroth. She wants to keep everyone safe and that means taking on Sephiroth on her own. in this cutscene, Cloud promises to stop Sephiroth and "Aerith" says... "You promise?" this "Aerith" that Cloud is seeing WANTS Cloud to come to the Northern Crater WITH the Black Materia WHERE Sephiroth is waiting. this entire cutscene is so so so much scarier once you connect those dots.
@@HS-mn6jc make the video slower, look at her face expression after she turns away from cloud, she is like VERY sad here, seems like she makes an effort holding back the tears and makes herself to ask for the promise cause she can't do anything with Seph at this point so she has to rely on Cloud and the team no matter what...body language is telling here, very sad scene :"( also no point to show how she walks around the party with sad face if it was jenova
@@HS-mn6jcThe Aerith that said that was alive and this one isn’t so she can’t handle Sephiroth by herself now she needs Cloud and the rest she most likely even knows how things will play out so she shouldn’t worry. Also the promised part is only in English as in Japanese they don’t promise anything or even hint at it. She is not Jenova at all or even Clouds imagination as she stays when they all leave, she is either dead (Lifestream manifestation) or is trapped in some sort of limbo/weird dimension.
It was so sad to see this, first time flying away and she's not on board but watching them take off... It hurts. Also I feel for Tifa, it's hard not to cry whenever I see her or Yuffie crying, Yuffie lost people, Tifa keeps losing her friends. I feel bad for Tifa, she really got depressed by all of this :(
Tifa was so heartbroken that she can't even look at Cloud. I wonder if they all think Cloud has gone insane because he keeps talking to himself but he says he can talk to Aerith and that is why Tifa can't look at him when going into the plane.
I can’t believe that’s how people reduce things. Cloud’s grief is so palpable. I know it hits full force in advent children, but his best friend is gone.😢
Well the interesting thing is... Cloud's version of Aerith is her being vocal. But the real her (I wanna assume the lifestream version of her) is actually silent. That's the version that Red saw
This whole ending hits hard, and then that "Goodbye" from Aerith is just depressing...that said, Aerith or a form of her will probably be in the next game.
I hope so, Aerith is definitely my favorite character so I'd be extremely sad if this was her "last" game, I want to see more of her, I want her to come back and be happy with the people she loves 😢
Wouldn't surprise me, I mean, there's still the Aerith in Zacks timeline, right? Or the other one that gave him the white materia. I think this aerith was saying goodbye, but I'm sure there will be some form of Aerith in the next game
That ending really is depressing once you think about what the game builds upon with Aerith and her past. She’s all alone at the end. She has no friends and is in the lifestream. It’s essentially a prison of loneliness for her until she decides to fully integrate into the lifestream and remove her individuality. A really nice tough is the yellow flowers in the final shot. Say what you will about the ending logically, it being confusing, however it really hits you in the gut emotionally.
@@VeSpEr7iNe If she comes back what is the point of her death? As much as I love her this would negate her death and make it pointless. I mean she's still on screen as much as before even after her death so we don't really feel its effect.
I started crying when the camera panned to Tifa. Now that is LOSS. I get what Rebirth was trying to do to make things interesting with the timelines and whatever but nothing says “FF7” like grief and loss, which is something I think was lacking in this ending. Except for Tifa. Tifa and Aerith were so close in this game and you really feel that sorrow from her…it just breaks my heart- she’s the only one truly grieving.
They were so close that I was thinking that they were going to make it be a very crazy love triangle like they all loving each other...that was how good Tifa and Aerith's chemistry was. Shame you can't switch between Cloud and Aerith and experience side quests and stuff like Costa del Sol from Aerith's POV.
I think what truly hurts her the most is, Aerith was the stability for Tifa when things got tough with Cloud. She leaned on Aerith in getting through the difficulties that her and Cloud have been through. With Jenova slowly taking over Cloud’s mind and creating a huge hindrance in their relationship, what gave Tifa solace was Aerith’s presence. Barrett, Red and Yuffie are good friends, but when it comes down to it, Tifa genuinely did rely on Aerith when things got tough with Cloud. Aerith is irreplaceable. Now, she has to deal with Cloud and his weird behaviors on top of trying to move past Aerith’s death. Tifa, imo is the one most affected by Aerith dying.
As soon as Aerith said "You can't fall in love with me" in Remake, I knew how everything was going to play out in Rebirth, and I knew how much it was going to hurt. Square really knows how to twist the knife.

Jenova once infected the Cetra people and gained the ability to see and communicate with the souls of the dead, so Cloud and Sephiroth gained many of Jenova's abilities as a result.
This ending made me cry like a baby. Mourning people also means that we need to put the past behing you as you go forward. Which is so well illustrated here when this whole bunch of friends leave Aerith behind. Damn, this hurt so bad.
The scene's got a wide, open space without a single tree, making it feel really empty. It's a quiet, nice day that's a lot slower than the rest of the game, especially compared to the last big fight. It's a huge change of pace. You can see the clear sky and the sun, showing you're done (for the time being) with the battles. The characters are just there, doing some small task, waiting around. It's a big switch from the intense action before, making you feel kind of sad and empty.
Don't know if it was said before but fun fact that scene of Aerith looking up at the Highwind taking off was the inlay of the PS1 jewel CD case.. it just hit me.
@@JaceWD Red feels her presence when she touches him, so I think she is there. And what does she say besides what I said that’s repeated? Because I’m sure it’s all new.
@@whitewolf7454 No, everything she says has already been said by her before either earlier in the game, or in remake. She first said "it feels like a second home". this was said in remake about her home in hojos lab. Its the exact same line. Her line about "then Ill light up smoke" was said earlier during the part where we met Vincent. Go check out her lines. they r all old lines. As for nanaki, nanaki could have sensed her. But the confusing part was, he never turned around to meet her. Thats a fact. Also, another argument which deals massive blow to "multiverse/ timeline" theory is the fact that nobody can see her other than cloud. So even if multiverse is actually real, what is the point in all of this when nobody can see you. You might as well be a ghost at that point. Its same as being dead. So the theory here is: there is no multiverse. She really died. Cloud is coping hard, hallucinating, he is schizophrenic and making stuff up as he goes along. But she is real in the lifestream, she is waiting for him in the "promised land" just like in Advent Children. All that is real.
@@JaceWD I think she only mentioned it in the Ch14 resolution scene, and in that she said “it’s like going back to my childhood home” in regards to Hojo’s lab. While in Rebirth says second home about the Forgotten City. She says “maybe we’ll need smoke” just before going to Nibelheim, while here says, “then I’ll send up smoke.” Not sure if there’s another part you mean? Why would he, he just felt her presence. it’s not like he could see her or smell her. Probably because of Aerith’s meddling with the alternative selves, and because he’s travelled between the worlds and saw the scars in the sky, which has left him with the ability to “see” more. When Sephiroth is giving his speech before the fight, talking about the multiverse etc, he says “but you’ll never see the truth with such clouded eyes.” So what, the Zack sections are one big hallucination by his dead self? How did Aerith get a restored white materia if not from her other self? What about Tifa, who was seeing time distortions with Aerith having and not having any blood on or around her?
The Aerith Ghost Cloud sees is real even if he is mentally unstable from losing her. While Aerith 1 did died, her spirit lives on and can still interact with the living in some way or form at least in the ending. Aerith 1 having her white ghost minions with her during the final battle shows this. But the biggest solid confirmation is Red X feeling Aerith RIGHT AS SHE TOUCHES HIM. This alone should 100% confirm Aerith 1 's ghost is real. The second biggest confirmation is even when everyone flew off in the plane. It shows the ghost of Aerith 1's perspective and even have her say goodbye perhaps meaning this will be the last time she interacts with them for awhile or she's done with the living for the time being 👍.
@@LucasCarter2yeah, I feel Cloud hasn't really processed the fact that Aerith is dead and being able to see her and talk to her is definitely contributing to this confusion of his... I do hope that, somehow, we can bring Aerith back in the next game :(
Tifa is super out of it here. She's taking it really hard. Reminds me of earlier in the game when she thought cloud was going to die and she said. "Please, not him too." And now she lost aerith after they got so close over this game.
@@LARK-ht7kdif they did it, we could use clofas clowns coping with “but he is dead! So Tifa can’t be with him!” Tho I don’t want that outcome it would be iconic and hilarious!!
The image at 5:32 really got me. I remember my old copy of the original FF7 having a rendered image of Aerith looking at the airship and being sad as a kid because she never got to ride it. Her arm even moves to the same position as the render. This was a really lovely subtle reference to us old players :')
Aerith did remember seeing the airship at Junon in the original FF7. Then eventually, Aerith did state that it was her dream to ride that airship. Too bad Cid Highwind did not own that airship called Highwind at the time Aerith was alive. We can all remember it like this. Aerith died in Disc 1. Then in Disc 2, Cid finally gets to be the owner of the airship. Aerith had been wanting to ride on that airship so if only Sephiroth did not kill Aerith, Cid would of fulfilled Aerith's dreams.
Problem I think would be budget and animation quality. As much as I'd like more of something I love, sometimes you gotta accept when a good story has to keep short.
They did a good job having cloud tweaking. It’s works too cause now you can’t really tell when cloud is tweaking out or if he’s actually seeing something real. Barret still keeps believing in him even though he clearly sees this man slowly losing his mind. I’d like to also say Barrerts bleeding heart was killing me. The voice actor did a good job that and you can tell the developers really wanted To better portray Tifa and Aerith’s friendship.
For anyone that is talking about her eyes being red at a couple spots, I believe it's the bronco. Right around 5:15 if you pause and look, the red in her eyes aren't in the same location. Each eye shows a small displacement to the left. And the broncos back is on her right eye from her perspective. From ours it would be her left. This means it should shift to her right. To add, around 4:56, you can see the red move from the top of her eyes and she moves her head. I know there's talks about that's not how CGI works, I don't know enough about that, I don't think it's her being Jenova though. When Cloud was holding the black materia the red shift went on the inside of his pupil. I believe because this is the dead Aerith, she now has her memories back and if Cloud can beat him, they could be "reunited". This may be why she's acting a little off and is no longer telling us to worry about ourselves. Something changed and now we have a chance again. I think she will come back via another timeline from one of the dying worlds. I'm pretty sure she's still sleeping in one, Marlene even mentions that if she wakes up, the bad man will kill her. I also think that "reunion" or "reunited" might be the next name. Both would fit if Aerith does come back, but also works for other characters. My 2 cents. Might not be worth anything. Just had to see an up close of the red eyes for myself, but don't see anything strange about them. I would like to also add something else I noticed. When the plane back fires, Aerith's dress doesn't move. Cait's cape does. But when the plane starts a little later, her dress and hair are all moving. Could be nothing though. Could also be 2 Aerith's.
I would love to have seen something of angeal and genesis in this game to include crisis core more in the story of ff7 since zack also has more included
That „Goodbye“ and seeing Tifa and Red grieving hurt so much, while Aerith apparently cannot interact with them anymore. 😢 Tifa and Aerith were really close and their friendship was really fleshed out in the games so good.
Absolutely! I’m still thinking about the scene where Tifa looks shocked when she sees aeriths dying hand grasping clouds face. Maybe it’s just me but I felt some tension? 🤨
Do you all think the red dots in Aerith's eyes at 5:15 are just the Tiny Bronco reflecting in her eyes (to me, seems too small to be the huge Bronco, there'd be more red and the few frames just before this don't have the red at all) or is it indicative that Aerith is Jenova in this ending? Cloud has red dots in his eyes around 1:58 when he's looking at the Black Materia.
Sad, strange, bizarre, scary, confused so many emotions during this scene. The creators showed us exactly how Cloud feels and what's in his mind. Excelent scene although really unexpected
I just finished it and man.......seeing them go without Aerith just hurts so much😭😭....I am really looking forward to playing the third game. ❤ i really enjoyed my journey on the Remake and Rebirth of FF7. I never played the original, saw my brothers play it a long time ago.
I think people are missing a big detail, if Cloud is "seeing things". When Aerith touches Red 13, Red does respond and said "Aerith...?" in a tone of confusion more than anything. What I think happened is Aerith's soul is part of the Holy Materia since its blank, the white versions of the Whispers were around both Cloud and Aerith before she disappeared completing her canon event. Cloud may still go and do some things to give the black materia to Sephiroth, but I think it's going to be done a lot differently than before
Because she has not yet returned to the lifestream; she still has a purpose of stopping the meteor. Cloud has Jenova cells, so he can see Aeriths soul and the rift above the sky.
I'm sure glad we made this remake series more complex than it needs to be. They definitely conveyed this information very well enough anyone can follow it.
@@npquanh30402 I hope Aerith can be "loaned" back to the team by the lifestream/alternate universe for part 3 with the understanding that she departs forever at the end (and that way the creators' guarantee that Aerith's death is permanent by the end of part 3 is still happening and there is no happy "Aerith is alive in the end" ending but bittersweet). Would be really cool way to let her fight again and become a major part of the story as a playable character but it still making sure she actually dies at the end. That way Aerith can become a part of the story and part of Cloud's party's life for all 3 parts unlike the OG where Aerith dies in the middle of the game.
It’s feels like there’s 2 different realities where Aerith doesn’t die in one and only Sephiroth can travel between the worlds. Because cloud is Sephiroth, he glitches seeing her
Literally everything is the same as the original just with extra context now. Bizarro sephiroth actually makes sense now. Aerith is interacting with the cast through the lifestream just as intended.

@@DerMelodist a victory motif? Its the main theme of the series and it is played mostly at the begining. The song itself has 2 official names, "Final Fantasy" and "Opening Theme".
Didn't anyone else find it odd when Cid asked "So, what did Aerith actually do anyway?". I've been thinking of that and hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere else.
Yeah exactly, I can't seem to understand why he'd say that. It seems like he's meaning she didn't help them fix the Bronco at all but that wouldn't make any sense. My guess now is that he can't wrap his head around why Sephiroth killed Aerith of all people
@tg.tyrant2302_ pretty sure he was asking why she was there, was praying and what her goal was with it. Nobody answers because they don't really understand either. Nobody except cloud can see her at the end because she's dead.
Just finished this yesterday. It's been a wild and emotional journey. Looking forward to the next and final installment. And I was 12 years old when the original FFVII came in 1997. Best RPG ever👍👍
I don’t understand the hate this ending gets. I cried so much in the last two chapters. The trials in the temple and Aerith’s death. I’m not confused cause they way I interpret it is Cloud is talking to Aerith through the life stream occasionally just like advent children. He cried when she was in his arms but we know it won’t set in for him until advent children. She exists in cloud’s mind as a guiding voice to counteract Sephiroth, but also a brutal reminder of his failure. It’s extremely sad.
either me and you are dumb or we’re of the few who understand that these remakes are based on the compilation and that the “changes” are mostly context for something
Seriously! They act like this is the conclusive ending for the entire trilogy…this ending is beautiful and bittersweet and still sets up a lot to be explored at same time
Yeah I think I have the dots connected. 3rd game is going to be WILD. I think it will be revealed that Cloud killed Aerith. There is a reason why Sephiroth spent the entirety of Rebirth trying to pull Tifa away from Cloud. He knows that she puts him back together. But you can see through the game how strained their relationship is. And it is heavily inferred through her body language after the death and in the ending video here that she is extremely sus of Cloud. Also, the whispers only let Cloud inside to see Aerith at the alter versus the original game. Sephiroth keeps telling Cloud to hold onto that hatred from the beginning of Remake. I think it all culminates here. Also, Cloud constantly asking to be forgiven in AC implies he DID something awful and they already confirmed part 3 will tie into AC. Also, Aerith in the church scene with Cloud before the Forgotten city is 100% Aerith from OG. I also think that OG Aerith and OG Sephiroth and engaged in this "eternal battle" in the lifestream which moves back and forth. I think the whispers showed up in the beginning because Sephiroth interfered with the timeline which is why you see in the opening itself Aerith get spooked [which didn't happen in OG] so like in the Terminator movies, there had to be a response. So OG Aerith somehow imbued Remake Aerith with memories or knowledge of future events. Not really sure how that all happened yet, but I'm sure it will be explained. The only thing I'm not really sure of is why did the whispers drain the Remake timeline's Holy materia? I guess we will find that out as well as Cloud has the empty orb which I'm sure will be significant. It obviously goes without saying that Cloud sees what Aerith and Sephiroth have been able to see since the beginning of Remake. I think this clairvoyance will come at a cost as he still has his sanity to manage. Plus, I think his relationship with Tifa and likely Barret and the rest is going to sour. There will be some major drama there which may significantly impact his recovery from the mako poisoning.
@@TRUCKNSMOKESwhat lol? Cloud did not kill aerith. The reason sephiroth is trying to strain tifa and clouds relationship is because he’s knows what happens in the other timelines and that tifa is the one who can save cloud and stop his hold over him, with tifa out of the way that will allow sephiroth to fully control cloud. Tifa is weary of cloud because she already knows that cloud is struggling to hold on to his sanity and now with aerith dying and cloud telling people not to look up in the sky because it’s an illusion she knows that he is on the verge of completely breaking which scares her.
@@TRUCKNSMOKESthe fact that this game ties into ac proves that cloud didn’t kill aerith. The reason he ask for forgiveness is because he failed to save her. Cloud is someone who suffers heavily from guilt so not being able to protect those he cares for takes a toll on him .
Aerith only appears when Cloud looks at the party and disappears when he looks away at Holy and the Black Materia. Interesting she disappears around the time he discovers the Black Materia but appears again when it’s fused to the sword. Remember what Sephiroth says, Jenova can become anyone. Those we hate, those we love, etc. Also before this scene he had been Glenn in front of Rufus. I think it’s on purpose that we don’t see Cloud being Aerith’s body to the lake. He still hasn’t processed she’s dead. Honestly it’s something he’s processing even in Advent Children. This Remake Trilogy will connect better into what originally happened in Advent Children. If that’s still going to be canon by trilogy end. Her eyes are kinda red when she says I’ll leave the rest to you. Interesting cause a chapter ago she ways saying you have to take care of yourself and leave Sephiroth to me.
I was 11 in 1997 when I was bought the original, it fast became my favourite game, and this particular part of the story hit me like a truck. I'm now 38 and just finished a 100 hour playthrough of rebirth, and this part has hit me like a freight train. It's crazy how well they have done this. The fact that it feels like a true loss of a friend or relative. I will hear her saying "goodbye" for a long time to come...
This was the first video game ever to absolutely break me. I actually can't revisit these scenes because of their ability to break me down so swiftly. I imagine Part III will be just as rich, and I'm looking forward to it more than any other video game in my adult life before
I just finished the game recently and I had never played the OG FF7 before so I'm a newer fan but oh man, this part really tugged at the heart strings! I didn't cry but it was just so emotional, I felt so sad for Aerith. Aerith's death has to be one of the saddest deaths in games I've played along with Dom from Gears of War 3 and Arthur in RDR2.
Cloud's mental break in the Northern Crater is going to be so good. The final act of this game shows just how unstable he is, he's basically one step away from being a black robe mumbling incoherently about the Reunion.
The best part about Rebirth is to see how all nine characters appear in one scene and see how they interact with each other as they travelled the world. Judging from this ending, it saddens to know this wouldnt continue in Part 3,
yea man Let me tell ya. that ending hits hard when you have encountered something like this in real life. leaving someone and knowing you will never see that person again still hits me 26years strong. My father RIP.
I felt like they took one of the most shocking and painful deaths in video game history and instead of making it more emotional they made it tremendously less sad and a bit confusing. Basically ruined the big sad part almost entirely with how they did it in Rebirth.
@@unicron99999 that’s why I’m glad your opinion is automatically a fact because of how important you are the the universe. Oh wait… it isn’t and you aren’t.
Last time I played it was in 1998 and never touch the disc 1 ever again but man the final phrase good bye pierce throught my heart all over again damn it!!!
Man this game’s final chapters broke me just like the original death scene did. I like that they’re going for something different, it’s impossible to deal with a character’s death better than the OG did. That being said, I enjoyed the new direction and I am extremely interested in where this leads. Gosh heartbreaking games are just the best ones.
Seeing Aerith alone on the ground as they leave hits really hard! It would be amazing if they showed the scene where everyone looked back where they left!
Yeah man, I think it's effective though from her POV and makes it sadder seeing her all alone on the grasslands while her friends continue their journey without her
Bro I just finished this game last night. Couldn’t really be able to process or have emotion cause so much was going on. And decided to sleep on it. I’m watching it again right now after getting rest and the second that the ending song plays I broke down so freaking hard. I told myself that when I first heard aerith sing the song that it’s going to hurt seeing her die and the ending but I WASNT READY TO BREAK DOWN THAT HARD. My freaking heart man. Seeing everyone sad, tifa crying, red possibly sensing aerith, and cloud seemingly unaffected and oblivious to what’s really going on and not being there comforting tifa. Not realizing that aerith is really gone even though he’s the only one who can see the alternate aerith. The thing that hurts the most is the uncertainty, I’m actually scared for the third and final game. It’s like the game is telling you “don’t you start thinking you will see aerith again, that girl is gone”. While your literally seeing her see you off. Like wtf man. That “goodbye” really hit like a truck. Clouds mental instability towards the end of the game and you still seeing that. Feeling like sephiroth may very well be playing us for a fiddle and that not even this aerith that cloud sees is real. Realizing that he’s going to really have to come to terms to that. “No promises await at journeys end”. Square please don’t break me again.
I feel the lost more when its subtle, OG FF7 you don't see Aerith till Disc 3 at the church and she disappears and at the ending, I saw the endings here, but I feel no lost for a companion since she's there and Cloud having access to see her and Red feeling her is something more like she's become their guardian angel, while in the og you wanna level up and become powerful because your healer is gone and a great party member.
Will Cloud still be able to talk to her in part 3? I want him to at least talk to a ghost or something. They can't make the final part as lame as the OG with the death of Aerith happening and it lameley tries to finish the game without her at all.
I never played the Original Game, let me know how this differs from the original in the comments! Thanks :)
Main difference is obviously, the og players know how it ends
But in universe, it works because Aerith now has Sephiroth's ability to appear to anyone connected to the lifestream, which is how he periodically appears to taunt Cloud throughout Parts 1 and 2
Pretty Much Yoda vs Sidious@@kurzor0007
I’d just play the original man outside of graphics this remake series doesn’t really enhance anything it be better off being an anime tv show rather than a video game
It's practically the same with some enhancements to the story. Only difference is the multiple timelines so far and Zack being shown as alive.
Tifa's sobbing made me start sobbing. Aerith's friendship with her was my favorite part of the game 😭
Aww Red(is me) telling her please stop crying Tifa 🥺😭
Exactly you could argue she's more closer to aerith then cloud
This definitely made this feel a million times worse. I was ready for her death personally but I didn’t take into account how much they rest of the party will handle it. Tifa crying just breaks my damn heart I can’t take it.
I agree, the dynamic with the group was much better. :(
Man, Tifa is going through it.

The way youre able to see how Cloud's mental stability just gets worse and worse throughout the ending sequence is omg SO GOOD and heartbreaking, seeing the MC slowly losing his mind while still trying to keep his shit together is so interesting to watch
Yup
That's not it.
Aerith uses the lifestream to project herself in other worlds. It's why remake aerith knew the events of ff7.
Sephiroth learned the same thing in advent children.
During cloud's date dream sequence, sephiroth specifically mentions that aerith has been hiding in a dying world
im not so sure about him hallucinating, he said himself "its just an illusion, its not real" that seems to me as if he knows already.
They really did an amazing job at showing how close Aerith and Tifa became. No jealousy or competition.
The competition was there, it was just friendly competition.
Man the shot of the plane flying into the distance while Aerith remains alone in the grasslands, watching the party move forward without her, is one of the most heart wrenching scenes ever😓
The music hits hard too.
In the original PS1 game there was some controversy/conspiracy theory about Aerith still being alive, because the game (the backcover I believe) shows a pic of her watching the highwind take off as she watches, even though in the PS1 game she dies before seeing it. 3:15 is quite interesting. Its almost like the 2 party members who know him best (Tifa and Barret) are reluctant to trust him because of his deteriorating mental state. Tifa doesn't say a single word to Cloud.
Yeah and when he says "I can handle it" well both of them are not having it
Yea that parts really good.
I think at this point they would go without him if they knew where to find Sephiroth, but since Cloud can sense him he is leading the way
I think they did an incredible job of filling in the gaps from the original.

@@nogoodnameleftAdvent Children all over again. She’s the invisible voice that will be with him in the third installment.
"You promise?"
this "Aerith" that Cloud is seeing WANTS Cloud to come to the Northern Crater WITH the Black Materia WHERE Sephiroth is waiting. this entire cutscene is so so so much scarier once you connect those dots.
The shot of the bronco flying away with the music made me tear up
It was so sad to see this, first time flying away and she's not on board but watching them take off...
She's pretty much the planet itself, she is everywhere now.
Nanaki responding to Aerith's touch proves Cloud isn't "just seeing things", btw.
I can’t believe that’s how people reduce things. Cloud’s grief is so palpable. I know it hits full force in advent children, but his best friend is gone.😢
Tifa is still alive wdym 🤔
@@mrtouchmybeard are you responding to bryce or me? cos I said Aerith
Well the interesting thing is... Cloud's version of Aerith is her being vocal. But the real her (I wanna assume the lifestream version of her) is actually silent. That's the version that Red saw
I think Clouds Aerith is actually Jenova
This whole ending hits hard, and then that "Goodbye" from Aerith is just depressing...that said, Aerith or a form of her will probably be in the next game.
I hope so, Aerith is definitely my favorite character so I'd be extremely sad if this was her "last" game, I want to see more of her, I want her to come back and be happy with the people she loves 😢
If there's no Aerith in the next game I ain't playing

If she comes back what is the point of her death?
As much as I love her this would negate her death and make it pointless. I mean she's still on screen as much as before even after her death so we don't really feel its effect.
I started crying when the camera panned to Tifa. Now that is LOSS. I get what Rebirth was trying to do to make things interesting with the timelines and whatever but nothing says “FF7” like grief and loss, which is something I think was lacking in this ending. Except for Tifa. Tifa and Aerith were so close in this game and you really feel that sorrow from her…it just breaks my heart- she’s the only one truly grieving.
ITS WHAT

Oh man i just finished the game today and this scene made me weep 😭 Aerith saying goodbye to them leaving is so painful
As soon as Aerith said "You can't fall in love with me" in Remake, I knew how everything was going to play out in Rebirth, and I knew how much it was going to hurt. Square really knows how to twist the knife.

This ending made me cry like a baby. Mourning people also means that we need to put the past behing you as you go forward. Which is so well illustrated here when this whole bunch of friends leave Aerith behind. Damn, this hurt so bad.
Cried during this whole scene..didn’t want to leave her behind 💔
The scene's got a wide, open space without a single tree, making it feel really empty. It's a quiet, nice day that's a lot slower than the rest of the game, especially compared to the last big fight. It's a huge change of pace. You can see the clear sky and the sun, showing you're done (for the time being) with the battles. The characters are just there, doing some small task, waiting around. It's a big switch from the intense action before, making you feel kind of sad and empty.
that moment with Tifa just destroyed me...
Don't know if it was said before but fun fact that scene of Aerith looking up at the Highwind taking off was the inlay of the PS1 jewel CD case.. it just hit me.
I caught that immediately and it shook me to the core
It is. I was like, that's supposed to be the highwind lol
Cloud: “You gonna be okay getting back?”

in fact every line she said during that conversation, is something she said before either in remake or rebirth...
its almost like she isnt real: P
When Sephiroth is giving his speech before the fight, talking about the multiverse etc, he says “but you’ll never see the truth with such clouded eyes.”
So what, the Zack sections are one big hallucination by his dead self? How did Aerith get a restored white materia if not from her other self? What about Tifa, who was seeing time distortions with Aerith having and not having any blood on or around her?
@@JaceWDthe mental gymnastic is exhausting with this one lol

They really blew my expectations out of the water
That CGI cutscene is really High end Movie Quality . A FF series whit that Animation would be awesome
the CGI looked this good since 15. It really hasn't even improved in 9 years. But it looks good so i'm not complaining.
FF15 Kingsglaive isn't great but it has beautiful animation like this
Problem I think would be budget and animation quality.
The way Barret looks to Tifa as if pointing out something is up with Cloud, but she’s too broken up to care at the moment 😢
Indeed that said way more then what can be conveyed verbally.

@@npquanh30402 That's a pretty good theory

Would be really cool way to let her fight again and become a major part of the story as a playable character but it still making sure she actually dies at the end. That way Aerith can become a part of the story and part of Cloud's party's life for all 3 parts unlike the OG where Aerith dies in the middle of the game.

I felt like they took one of the most shocking and painful deaths in video game history and instead of making it more emotional they made it tremendously less sad and a bit confusing. Basically ruined the big sad part almost entirely with how they did it in Rebirth.
They made it better

Yeah man, I think it's effective though from her POV and makes it sadder seeing her all alone on the grasslands while her friends continue their journey without her
@@tg.tyrant2302_ imagine when she says goodbye and the screens turn black and it says "aerith has left the party."
The church was a glitch in Disc 3. It wasn't supposed to happen.
@@TorchTaylor21 hold up....i dont think test 0 wasnt suppose to happen either...im not saying they're gonna make glitch aerith canon but....
I cried so much
It’s been a week since I beat the story. I still can’t get over this ending. So sad.
You can tell the advent children sources in this
Cid singing “THE Final Fantasy” theme in the background.
I have watched this cutscene an unhealthy amount of times
I cannot wait to see her voice actor play this scene...she is going to cry her eyes out.
