Great tip! Most extreme start method I ever saw was a bucket of hot water poured on the engine of a single cylinder Lynx. It was frozen solid after sitting in the open at -40C at a camp in north Saskatchewan. Not a recommended technique but started in 2 pulls. Engines were simpler in the 80s;)
Always did this on my iq600r after i snapped two pull cords and broke one magnapull. Started first pull every time. Also, if you don’t want to take your plugs out. Just pull the engine around slowly afew times to let the friction warm up the pistonrings just a smudge and lube everything. It will make it so much easier to pull when its like -30 celsius.
1996 skidoo 380, it has a primer pump , give it plenty of pumps to put fuel directly in the cyl's. starts on the elec starter, all 2 strokes like to start very wet and rich. i also crack the throttle open slightly and stick my glove in the throttle to keep it open until it warms up . Always starts, removing spark plugs would be last ditch.
You could put a primer on it too. They sell the kits for twins and triples. Three pumps of fuel. And it'll start right up too :) But..............Your way is a good way too if you only have a choke :)
Yes it has a primer but the trick is to be able to pull it threw a few times, get the engine rolling and watch the fuel begin to move, I only do this when its more than 20 degrees below freezing, I'd tear up my recoil if I didn't, smaller engines not so bad but over 800cc a must for me
If you can plan to park next to an outlet. An electric hair dryer and even your cover will work for 15-20 minute pointed at crankcase with cover loosely thrown over and hood down. Always pull that 200.00 $ belt and take inside when done for the day. It will save from smoking a narrow spot and bonus it’s a theft deterrent.
I have been trying to get a zrt 600 started that's been sitting a few years. I'm surprised how much fuel you dumped in there. I think I have been way to conservative
@shawncrocker7037 don't be shy with the fuel! Chances are your idle jets will be plugged after sitting so Probably need to remove bottom fuel bowls and clean the jets and jet passage ways! Cheers
Ya...if it's that freaking cold the last thing I want to do is screw around pulling spark plugs! A warm fire and a hot cup of coffee sounds like a better idea

glad to see my old sled it still running and out there.been awhile since I had it.
@@amandasmith3789 nice! How long ago did you own it?
I like the way these hood
Headlights and windshield look almost reminds me of mother queen from aliens
Straight gas works just fine, been doing that for over 40yrs on sleds, snowblowers, lawn mowers, chainsaws...etc

Thank you for this. Ive got an 800 skidoo summit that is a bear to start when its cold. Tried this trick and first pull it roared to life 👍
all these years. omgosh! 🤣😂🤣😂 U rock dude! Wheres the tip jar?
Man I do not miss having a carbed sled, I love the new etecs, flip the kill switch and mine has always started on the first pull even when it was -35F

Nice, unfortunately the big sleds over 1000cc feel like there ceased when its -30 I like your glove in the throttle trick
Cheers and happy trails
Gotta subscribe for that one, your a genius 😂
I’m thinking of putting in a circulating inline coolant heater in my zrt800. I know the feeling at -35 it’s solid like it’s seized up 😆
Love those triples!!!
That worked awesome thank you 😁👍

Not really, he,s right,
I use choke all.the time. It works . skidoo had primers on there sleds. Mine is not
A skidoo. Mine a zrt artic cat

Could you make a video of you turning a carb model into a efi? Love your videos and would rather watch you do it anyways lol

At 2:12 of the video quite a bit of gas was added to the first cylinder -- not concerned about hydrostatic locking?
You need a lot more than that to cause that no worries here.
Great video! Braaap
Thanks
I have done this with my 700 Yamaha viper triple and sometimes it catches and runs for 2 seconds and then it backfires and stops
My new one will have es on it
😎
Mine usually starts on 2-3 pulls so,.........

A 10 dollar primer does the same thing😂
Unfortunately on a 1050cc triple you won't be able to pull it, I have a primer on it which I use when it's warmer than -20
Hurt my back 4 sessions of physio.
Hope your getting better! Tryn to cold pull a big sled will remind you of every injury you have

Was that straight gas?
Mixed fuel from my sled, probably should of mentioned that!
