- If you want your family car to be faster than is strictly sensible, you've got a lot of options. These are two of the latest, and the best.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door S is among the fastest and most expensive. It has a 4.0-litre V8 making a whopping 630bhp, which is sufficient to push the GT to almost the 200mph mark (where conditions allow, obvs).
And its fiercest rival is the Porsche Panamera, which we're also testing here in the top available specification. The Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, then, gets a total of 671bhp owing to a twin-turbocharged V8 engine but also an electric motor, giving it a short electric-only range, but all the performance in the world when motor and engine are kicking together.

That satin metallic blue on the AMG GT63 is probably my favorite auto blue I have seen. I think the Alpina line of BMW's have something close, so does Bentley and Porsche!!

Funny, I much prefer the GT AMG interior. Porsche is like BMW where the interiors generally stay the same or similar and it gets old.

The GT 4 Door is definitely more "beast mode activated" car. Panamera looks more elegant.

Great real world, real life review rather than pointless drag races and slides around race tracks! I prefer the Porsche myself but not the hybrid. Must say the interiors in both of these cars are just beautifully appointed. They are both special & would be great to cross Europe in.

It's a strange thing to compare a hybrid vs a non-hybrid and then complain the hybrid is too heavy and unresponsive. Should've used the standard Turbo S.
There is no non e-hybrid version of the Turbo S as of yet.

Panamera is awesome - I bought a 2018 Panamera in October and it is definitely a super sedan!
I got mine in May last year and yes an amazing car. Have to laugh at all these people choosing between two cars neither of which they will ever afford let alone buy.
I am curious which panamera model did you buy, i am trying to choose between a v6 hybrid or a GTS
@@alhajriabdulla I've got the 4 ehybrid. For me it was a no brainer. The car really suits electric. Its so quiet on my commute. Through gear acceleration is way more than you will ever need. Have a charge point at home and work. My daily commute is about 15 miles each way so if i want i can do it purely electric. Its a family car, a luxury cruiser and a toy when i want it to be. I have the sports exhaust and in the flesh it sounds great. I wanted to put my toe in electric vehicles but still love the sound of the V6. In a few years time we will all be driving noddy cars so I'm enjoying my V6 sound while i can. Have to say there's so much rubbish on here. In normal everyday driving i honestly can't tell the car weighs 300kg more even after having a turbo for a week. In the real world the hybrid feels faster because of the instant hit from the electric motors and living in the north of England i don't have to worry about the none existent charge network on longer journeys. What ever you do get the rear wheel steering it makes maneuvering what is a very big car a lot easier in tight situations. Over 8500 miles its returned over 55 mpg equivalent after taking into account electric cost but i play a lot. A friend of mine has the turbo and gets 18mpg. What ever you get you won't regret it. Titanium indeed that weight difference plays a huge part. The Panamera is nowhere near as sporty or fun as the AMG. There are rumours that AMG will use carbon fiber to significantly reduce the weight of their future V8 Hybrid models, of that’s true then it’ll be a game changer!
@@DanielSadjadian No way like it or not 300kg battery is a 300kg battery.
David Owen by saving weight in other areas of the car, they’ll be able to add the Hybrid system with little overall weight gain (over the non hybrid model).
@@accountt I kind of agree, but also realize that for most people the burnout/drift will not be used that much, the second you have driven 5000 miles, it will sit in AWD mode ... Agree that P have the nicest interior design, but there are part of the GT that I really like (would have been better without those drab colors).

Drove the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid in the Sport Turismo variant, epic car. Tickle the pedal in Sport+ and it just explodes forward.

Mercedes-Benz is the better car hands down
I went for the 1900kg aluminium body Maserati Quattroporte GTS with the Ferrari twin turbo V8 Comes with 530hp and 710nm torque plus RWD. Could easily be Ecu tuned to 611 hp plus & 900nm torque and is far more beautiful car. I growled passed one of these amg gt63s today nothing special compared to the Maserati.
I mean the S65 coupe is better and thats a fact
@@whispercars306 Maserati's just don't excite me unfortunately. I'd argue the word 'ugly' applies, definitely not beautiful, and the interior is meh.

I’d buy Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Turbo and forget the battery/hybrid rubbish for the more agile car. The money you save from buying a Turbo S you could put some fruity options on it.
NZsarge1 in countries such as Belgium, the Netherlands..., it’s actually cheaper to buy and run Turbo S, thanks to its hybrid system. The government in these countries support buy EV and hybrids. But yeah, in general non S Turbo is a better choice, or for me, even GTS version
It depends on what you want. I hate turbo lag more than I like lightness, specially in a saloon car. If I want an agile car I can always get a GT3...

Idk what crossed their fucking minds to get the Turbo S Hybrid with +300kg. The Turbo S alone would have way better value and win.

Not at all. Gt63 has way better looking interior and way better quality materials. Porsche has way too many buttons and is a hot mess.

Idiot there is rear air conditioning quit talking out of your ass. Its optional to include versions of it JUST like the the Porsche which also more expensive to begin with. Gt63 is faster, quicker, handles better, looks better both inside and out, is way more comfortable, has way more features and luxurious amenities, is way more technologically advanced, has way more presence, is way more fun to drive, sounds way better all while still being cheaper. And Porsche doesn't have more features. Other way around. Panemera doesn't have air bag seatbelts. Doesn't shave autopilot, doesn't have magic body control, doesn't have fully voice infotainment system. Porsche infotainment system is a hot mess. I could go and on. Mercedes is way better any day any second. Mercedes wins just like the video says. Try again!

They look comfortable and sporty at the same time, but by no means old.
11:00 There literally is a button in the middle console of the Merc dedicated to switching between manual and automatic shifting.
For me I would have the porsche. Just a more classier but cooler at the same time. Plus the spoiler.
I recently looked at both cars and am getting the GT AMG. IMO the massive jump in price wasnt worth the Porsche. I actually like the GT AMG wing and interior better too.

In a vacuum the interior in the AMG-GT63 S is fantastic. But when compared directly with the interior of the Panamera Turbo S the GT63's looks tacky and flamboyant... a swanky nightclub vs. a modern designer's penthouse. Some may say the latter is boring but I think it's bang on at this price point. The GT63's is more fitting of a CLA43 or CLS53 AMG's younger demographic. The young millionaires of Dubai will love it, so maybe Mercedes-Benz knows what it's doing after all.

How does it look tacky? Just because it has ambient lighting doesn't make it a night club. Plus the lightening can be turned off. The Porsche interior is indeed boring and its cluttered with way too many buttons and its infotainment system is even more of a hot mess. Merc interior is night and day better. Way more elegant and sporty. Not just in a vacuum but in the real world or any world for that matter its the better interior by far.
Oh you pronounced Hamburg and Stuttgart correctly! That was surprising. Anyway I'll continue watching 👍

i always been a fan of the panamera form but my favorite car brand is for sure mercedes. this mercedes 4door combines these 2 worlds so that is gonna be my next car!
Why would you test the Mercedes on winter tires at 13 degrees? That would effect the handling and the ride significantly
the porsche's spoiler is soooo good the way it opens is just amamzing.

I think the Porsche has the best drivetrain available. Going into the city in silent electric mode using very little fuel then unleashing it’s 670hp when you feel like it makes it incredibly versatile. However, an S65 coupé is so much more desirable and in keeping with what a GT is.

This is such a tough choice, but I think I have to go Porsche
I drive a Mercedes, I like Porsches, I'm a German Car fanboy. But I also love the the Over Head Valve General Motors LS and now LT engines. The latest and greatest offering from GM is the LT5, which you can order in a crate on the internet for $18K USD and it makes 755 HP and 715 ft-lbs. And it's exterior physical dimensions are SO SMALL! It's just hard to get excited by Mercedes/Porsche engine numbers when an Over Head Valve Chevrolet motor makes such superior numbers. Meh. I'd still take the AMG, obviously!

One big problem with the Panamera is that it doesn't shrink around you. It is a massive car and feels it. It was the case with the first generation and still is what put me off with the second generation Panamera.

One minute he says the weight of the Panamera is just too much. But then he puts his foot down and then he says the acceleration is instant and "unbelievably ridiculous."
I agree completely with NZsarge1, I too would choose the Panamera Sport Turismo Turbo. I am certain the weight saving over the e-hybrid would make it feel almost like a different car to drive hard on a twisty road - weight has always been and will always be the arch-enemy of how a car accelerates and handles. By the way, the rear cabin of the AMG GT looks almost like a poverty spec after looking at the rear cabin of the Panamera. But that's just my personal opinion.
That Panamera has insane tyre noise inside to the cabin. I did not choose that after 1 hour test drive. I went to S class
I have this exact car for about 9 months now. I mostly drive in Sport and sometimes sport plus, The electric motor is for when my wife is driving! (-; . I think the weight in the back is an advantage, this car is glued on the road! Greetz ✌️👍

Driving from Hamburg to Stuttgart, have a nice drive! Driving fast is a complete dream because the Autobahn in Germany is overcrowded. One of the busiest Autobahn network in Europe. All the car company's make faster and faster cars but where can you really drive fast? I'm from Belgium and the police are installing everywhere track control systems with mean they stop installing speed cameras witch is a system when everybody nows where they are everybody breaks passing the speed camera. Traject control is a system that when you pass the camera and you drive a driveway were max speed is 70 Km/h and after a distance to the next camera witch can be 1Km, 2 Km, 5 Km or even some 500m and you drive to fast over those distances the sophisticated technology takes always a picture off your number plate and you will receive a letter with a nice fine. Also this system by taking pictures of your number plate can in this way establish when a car is stolen or a person is wanted the system reacts immediate and the police will try the catch you!!!!

I got it (after telling me a hundred times that the turbo s is a heavyweight and hence compromised). You'd buy the turbo s if you'd live in certain parts of central Europe where you'd get a tax break on "e-cars" (even on those which aren't really e-cars like the turbo s). Now take a "non e-hybrid" turbo and start again.
That AMG GT63 is so much nicer in every way

Driving dynamics, quality and reliability are on Porsches side, but if your most important thing in a car is to attract attention, that's how Merc sells their cars :) BTW, those vents look great...before you thouch them, it's cheap plastic...
