In switching to the '22 Porsche Panamera, there is no comparison. It's a Porsche. It has that rock-solid luxury feel that is appropriate for a $100-$250K vehicle. It is an engaging vehicle, one that has precise driving and sweet exhausts. It's a car meant for driving. You go on their configuration page and option it out to your hearts (and wallet) extent. The Mercedes, Audi, etc., they are meant for comfort. Yes they serve as status symbols, but they're meant for chauffeuring. So much cost, and effort, is put into the back seats, isolation. Press a button and all the blinds come down, isolating yourself from noise, society as you comfortably get a massage and stretch your legs. In the Porsche, the driver can have fun when they want, and then when hauling around kids, family, whatever, have it be a normal luxurious upscale car.
I miss "Full HD, full screen, and full length... Let's go!" ... That aside, I definitely would have expected you to go with the Porsche before I clicked on the video, but I can see how the S Class is better at what it does best than the Panamera. Of course we would all take a Porsche 911 or 718 over a "sports car" Mercedes... but for luxury, Mercedes wins.

+1.. Another Autogefuhl gem. Autogefuhl Peak !! .. The Mercedes S500 inline 6 cyl is straight-up contemporary and refined. . That,, and the S500 is library silence with every motion; Luxury.. Yes, yes what was MB thinking with the nonsensical touch-haptic switch gear steering wheel? (cost-cutting) .. Our '22 MB E-450 All-Terrain has this ....
Having owned a 2019 Panamera 4, without ever owning (yet) an S Class, believe me when I tell you, there is no comparison. I’d take the S Class every day and twice on Sunday. And I’m a Porsche fan, currently own a 2021 Cayenne GTS and love it. The tech alone on the MB runs rings around the Porsche.
I would disagree owning a '22 Porsche. The S was great if huge tablets and comfy seats is your thing. If you want a 911-oriented sports sedan. No comparison to having sports-car dials, beautiful 911-type driving dynamics, turning that key and hearing the car roar to life. If you want comfy and isolated outside, go Mercedes. If you're a bit more sport-oriented at heart, yet want all the luxury of an executive car, go Porsche. I have no doubt I'll go Mercedes when I'm 60's+ but I have many years until that point.
Wonderful comparison. I was waiting for S63 AMG - but the W223 interior is horrible compared to previous gen W222. So went with Panamera GTS (V8). Taking more than 7 months .. the wait is just too much now.
yeah!!!Thomas-really nice job-testing those VIP luxury kfz....my decision is those MB S class-long version-to cruise along the beautiful Adriatic coast in Croatia!greetings from Hrvatska.nice holidays to you Thomas and the whole Autogefuehl team.this is holiday when you test those vehicles!!!nice job....amazing-those ambilights in the S class!64 colours of course...
A Mercedes S is just too big of a car, for me. An E class is more a car for me. BUT, somehow Panamera, is just perfect 😀 Don't ask me, how come? I don't have an answer 🤷♂️
I bought a Panamera. Porsche>Mercedes in driving dynamics, prestige, speed, driving experience. Mercedes>Porsche in comfort, luxury, cloud-like, relaxation. That's why they're such great chauffeur cars. If you want in the drivers seat, there really is just one choice in the segment for sports-car level fun which is Porsche. Both BMW and Mercedes caters to everyone (c/3, e/5, s/7), whereas Porsche generally caters to the $100K+ exclusively in their cars. They integrate 911 DNA into the Panamera, and it's a fun experience from first turning the "key", no push-buttons here.
Fantastic and comprehensive review. My heart says Porsche but my head says Mercedes. Seems like Porsche have made a very basic error with the seats, and no matter how good it drives, ultimately it's a deal breaker. I'm not entirely convinced by the new lay out of the Mercedes interior, just seems that the technology isn't functioning as it should. Maybe the 7 series is the way to go?
Good thoughts. As a chauffeur, SClass it is. As a self-driver, A8 and 7-Series need serious consideration: ruclips.net/video/hSGvkV2YhTM/видео.html ruclips.net/video/2Z25MlS3yOc/видео.html
The Mercedes needs to go back to the W126 cockpit; even after all these years still one of the best driving positions, with beautiful forms, and large, tactile buttons right where your hand falls
I'd go for EQS over the S Class and the Plaid over the Panamera. Quiet, smooth, quick and heavy electric drivetrains really shine in this segment. Both the Panamera and the S500 are phenomenal cars, but not that appealing anymore with electric alternatives around.
Nice video very detailed. The S Class I would take home because it fullfill the most in terms of luxury and innovation. Its interior is way ahead of any other car on the market. The Panamera is a nice car but it is more E class than S class. The interior feels much older. What I don't like about its interior is the plastic part between the door panel the upper part of the bench. That is very cheap. Maybe the next Comparison would be S73 e vs Panamera Turbo S E hybrid.
I recently test drove the ID4 and I understand the appeal of the capacitive buttons. They do (potentially) provide more flexibility, especially with VW's sliding feature. They're also more likely to last longer. Buttons and knobs wear out, especially if you (or your children) touch things with messy hands. These capacitive buttons, however, will practically last forever. However Merc's glitchy/faulty buttons shown in this video are inexcusable.
Had an accident a while back and had to get a hire vehicle until mine was fixed. The insurance company got me a Mercedes C class. Car was fun to press the gas pedals and had interesting functions build in, however... Them capacitive touch point were just nothing but nightmare
This new Mercedes interior still worse than the previous one, too much screen. I never particularly liked Porsche interiors, but this one is so much better than the new S class.
This review helped me decide to stay with the Sport Turismo version of the Panamera I have been planning to order when there is an available allocation in a few months. I had been thinking of instead going with the similarly priced Panamera Executive for its much better rear seat accommodations. This video reminded me that my priority is the best driving experience. The 14-way adjustable front seats were very comfortable during a test drive and I hope they will be similarly comfortable on long trips. I don't find the S-class Mercedes at all appealing due to it's clownish interior. Past Mercedes I've owned attracted excess and sometimes very negative attention. I doubt that many people will even know what a Panamera is.
@@pozytywniezakrecony151 Well in terms of pricing and interior accommodations, the Panamera in this video is more similar to the Mercedes in this video. The CLS is substantially smaller and has much less rear legroom than a Panamera LWB. I decided not to order a Panamera when I got an allocation in August 2022 due to parts shortages that likely would have affected my build. I instead bought a similarly equipped in-stock Cayenne which has proven to be more practical than a Panamera.
Mercedes traditional grille has been made into a piece of plastic kitsch. Awful design. Don’t they realise the value of aesthetics?. I’ve owned Mercedes for decades. Here in the U.K. we can only purchase Mercedes with the plastic Star grille. B.M.W..and Audi’s modern grilles are equally vulgar and brash. B.M.W. have done a better job with the Rolls Royce. British designers?. Large and vulgar seems to be the trend. Perhaps designed for China and their love of ‘BLING’.
maybe for safety reasons. Same problem with the bentley flying spur. I think if an s class with plastic grill hits you its not as bad as if metal hits you
@@sapnupuas7271 False.... Imagine by high speed you'll get hit by this car and even though on the grill you put an airbag the hit of the speed will kill you.
I guess most people would go for the Porsche Panamera, if they have the budget to buy only one of these two cars for themselves or their family of up to four people in total. This is because both sedans at a similarly price, Porsche is a tier higher in terms of rarity and exoticness (eg the cheapest Merc is an A Class but the cheapest Porsche is a Macan which is significantly more expensive, meaning there are more people out there owning a Merc branded car than those owning a Porsche branded car). Also, Merc S Class is known for its luxuriousness and driving/seating comfort. Porsche cars are known for their performance and speed, so it gives you more bragging rights when you drive a Porsche, eg I can go faster than you, etc. And when you spend that much money on a car, you want to stand out and have that edge over those cars owned by your friends and relatives. Porsche Panamera can give you more of that than Merc S, while not sacrificing too much luxuriousness and practicality.
Yes S-Class. That is after they give us some real tactile buttons and knobs back. You hit the nail on the head holding Mercedes to the fire on the Haptic Touch sensing buttons completely missing the mark. It is unacceptable at this price point for you to hit a button like you did 8 times to get it to do what you wanted which should have happened on your first try without ever thinking about it again. I hope they bring back some real buttons and switches to round out this great product. Excellent comparison.
The AMG version of the S-class is actually longer than the mentioned 5,29 meters. That length only applies to the normal version. The AMG line is 5,32 meters long.
previous generation of the s class is way better in my opinion from the interior and exterior and the Porsche new gene has become better so if comfort i will go with s class but the porsche not that hard so i will pick porsche
Mercedes confort and relaxing Sporty you don't use for everyday or you going sport all times you need rest relax Sometimes you are tired and l think sport is tires you more. For me or long journey is Mercedes always have something special I like olso Porsche but not for everyday
@@autogefuehl it was actually clear right from the beginning, just think about the first gen Panamera: it was based on the VW Pheaton and Audi A8 D3, so of course it’s competitors are also the Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7er. otherwise they would have made the Panamera on the same platform as the A6 back in the days. and A7, GT 4-door and co are based on the A6, E-class and co, so of course they don’t compete in the upper class and are in the upper middle class. the Panamera was and will always be a car from the upper class like the S-Class, 7-series, A8, LS and Quattroporte
In answer to your question the German I go with is *Benz.* Consoles displacing the mid seat in back an eternal turn off. Executive chauffering will not lure me. So a divergent reason from your own. Other hand like standing out and may take its rival despite the Merc more special interior.
Have a Rolls Royce Ghost since the Badge Alone is More than both put together and that’s before we talk about The Car it’s self !……NAUGHTY NAUGHTY saying the Mercedes is Quietest on the market think Rolls Royce have a Few Choice words to say to you .
The Panamera, and there is interesting because the Panamera shown could be on SPORT seats not standard ones. I really don't like the way Mercedes is going with their sedans specially the S clases, todo much complicated

🙏 AMEN
Panamera 4 Executive has evry thng
1. Design
2. Space
3. Handling
Cayenne makes up for the lack of seating comfort in the panamera 👍
I would disagree owning a '22 Porsche. The S was great if huge tablets and comfy seats is your thing. If you want a 911-oriented sports sedan. No comparison to having sports-car dials, beautiful 911-type driving dynamics, turning that key and hearing the car roar to life. If you want comfy and isolated outside, go Mercedes. If you're a bit more sport-oriented at heart, yet want all the luxury of an executive car, go Porsche. I have no doubt I'll go Mercedes when I'm 60's+ but I have many years until that point.
Definitely the Merc never disappoints.
Wonderful comparison. I was waiting for S63 AMG - but the W223 interior is horrible compared to previous gen W222. So went with Panamera GTS (V8). Taking more than 7 months .. the wait is just too much now.
yeah!!!Thomas-really nice job-testing those VIP luxury kfz....my decision is those MB S class-long version-to cruise along the beautiful Adriatic coast in Croatia!greetings from Hrvatska.nice holidays to you Thomas and the whole Autogefuehl team.this is holiday when you test those vehicles!!!nice job....amazing-those ambilights in the S class!64 colours of course...
cheers!
S-Class is much more beautiful, especially interior. It is like car from the future compared to Panamera. No brainer for me.
Tes vidéos sont toujours aussi agréables à regarder. Bravo et continue
Merci beaucoup!
A Mercedes S is just too big of a car, for me. An E class is more a car for me. BUT, somehow Panamera, is just perfect 😀
Don't ask me, how come? I don't have an answer 🤷♂️
Panamera any day. From a ..... Panamera owner 😉. Unless you're chauffeured, that is.
Nice comparison and outfit as always Thomas!
🙏
Mercedes Benz S Class 500 looking very beautiful Inside and Out.
I love this video and all man, but s class is s class.. porsche is more sporty and s class luxury
As a self-driver, A8 and 7-Series need serious consideration:

@@autogefuehl S63 for the owner/driver?
Panamera LWB is not a match for S-Class LWB for sure but at least it brings a sporty alternative to the market.
What if you live in Russia? Or the middle east, where electric cars aren’t so common and charging stations are almost nowhere to be found?

Tesla Model X plaid review: ruclips.net/video/2r-QzeJedBc/видео.html
Nice video very detailed. The S Class I would take home because it fullfill the most in terms of luxury and innovation. Its interior is way ahead of any other car on the market. The Panamera is a nice car but it is more E class than S class. The interior feels much older. What I don't like about its interior is the plastic part between the door panel the upper part of the bench. That is very cheap. Maybe the next Comparison would be S73 e vs Panamera Turbo S E hybrid.
Cheers!!
I'll take the Porsche in GTS form.
Thomas blue is beautiful!
Capacitive buttons wont last forever i think
Sir xbox and playstation went AWAY from capacitive, returning to physical.
First hand owner.
Had an accident a while back and had to get a hire vehicle until mine was fixed. The insurance company got me a Mercedes C class. Car was fun to press the gas pedals and had interesting functions build in, however... Them capacitive touch point were just nothing but nightmare
And btw, truly excellent comparison. Ty.
🙏🙏🙏
This new Mercedes interior still worse than the previous one, too much screen. I never particularly liked Porsche interiors, but this one is so much better than the new S class.
the v.a.g. is gorgeous inside and out
not too keen on the other
This review helped me decide to stay with the Sport Turismo version of the Panamera I have been planning to order when there is an available allocation in a few months.
U re welcome! Please recommend us 😎
I personally think those little pillows on the head rest look ridiculous. If you want to take a nap, go home and go to bed.
They are different beasts, wouldn't cls amg be more comparable?
@@pozytywniezakrecony151 Well in terms of pricing and interior accommodations, the Panamera in this video is more similar to the Mercedes in this video. The CLS is substantially smaller and has much less rear legroom than a Panamera LWB. I decided not to order a Panamera when I got an allocation in August 2022 due to parts shortages that likely would have affected my build. I instead bought a similarly equipped in-stock Cayenne which has proven to be more practical than a Panamera.
@@williammayer1742
Hello, I am from the future. Little pillows? The Panamera also started using pillows. haha ㅋㅋ In the end, Benz took the lead.
Plastic grille is a deal breaker, like for real?
maybe for safety reasons. Same problem with the bentley flying spur. I think if an s class with plastic grill hits you its not as bad as if metal hits you
@@sapnupuas7271
False.... Imagine by high speed you'll get hit by this car and even though on the grill you put an airbag the hit of the speed will kill you.
Thank you for your video, you share it very well, wish you always be healthy and happy
Thank you very much, U2
Very interesting, thanks Thomas
👍👍
Can you do a video on G90 vs S560 vs Porsche Panamera Executive
Hey Thomas, when is the video on the 4 series gran coupe coming out? Thank you for the amazing comparison as always.
Thanks! Hard with access to BMW at the moment due to Corona, but we ll try as soon as possible!
Great review as always 👏 when you test executive relax position you should take off your shoes
Cheers!
You can have both , job done 👍
Yes S-Class. That is after they give us some real tactile buttons and knobs back. You hit the nail on the head holding Mercedes to the fire on the Haptic Touch sensing buttons completely missing the mark. It is unacceptable at this price point for you to hit a button like you did 8 times to get it to do what you wanted which should have happened on your first try without ever thinking about it again. I hope they bring back some real buttons and switches to round out this great product. Excellent comparison.
👌🙏
Porsche Panamera is faster than the Mercedes S-Class
it depends on the engine, and the the AMG versions of the S-Class aren't even out yet
The AMG version of the S-class is actually longer than the mentioned 5,29 meters.
That length only applies to the normal version.
The AMG line is 5,32 meters long.
That length is just defined by spoiler overhang
Capacitive buttons is the future & are very functional.
I would have to go with the Mercedes. The interior and comfort is a lot better than the Porsche. Mercedes is more luxurious.
previous generation of the s class is way better in my opinion from the interior and exterior and the Porsche new gene has become better so if comfort i will go with s class but the porsche not that hard so i will pick porsche
Mercedes confort and relaxing
Sporty you don't use for everyday or you going sport all times you need rest relax
Sometimes you are tired and l think sport is tires you more.
For me or long journey is Mercedes always have something special
I like olso Porsche but not for everyday
thanks for comparing the Panamera with a real competitor! cause the A7, AMG GT 4-door and 8-Series aren't the Panameras competitors🤦🏼♂️
Thanks! I thought a long time about this and also did a survey in advance, and your verdict was: This needs to be solved! - thus I did :)
@@autogefuehl btw bring back the old intro, but now it should be „please join us in 4k, full screen and full length, leeet‘s go!“😇
Good point
hehe
In answer to your question the German I go with is *Benz.*
Consoles displacing the mid seat in back an eternal turn off. Executive chauffering will not lure me. So a divergent reason from your own.
Other hand like standing out and may take its rival despite the Merc more special interior.
Thank you Thomas 😊
you re welcome!
Both vehicles are perfect. The decision would be very difficult.
Have a Rolls Royce Ghost since the Badge Alone is More than both put together and that’s before we talk about The Car it’s self !……NAUGHTY NAUGHTY saying the Mercedes is Quietest on the market think Rolls Royce have a Few Choice words to say to you .
He did not say is the quietest rather "probably the quietest".
New S Class seems to be the least most relaxing car in the world right now.
Wow that rear steering from the S-class... looks like a propper forklift
Seriously, even if it had better seats, why would anyone ever take the Porsche over the Mercedes?!
S class needs a review while being driven
Thomas is exactly the type of “Men age like fine wine”
😁
The Panamera, and there is interesting because the Panamera shown could be on SPORT seats not standard ones. I really don't like the way Mercedes is going with their sedans specially the S clases, todo much complicated
Damn the capacitive buttons!
Indeed!
The big screens and piano plastic really does look like cheap shit lol
More so, in the Maybach where the grille slats are also plastic.😔
@@monishartwani8418 it is in aid of pedestrian safety…
Such a great honest review! Great job 👌🏻
🤟🤟
would be interesting to see the Panamera goes against BMW 8 GC
For me the choice fully depends on the engine.
I would choose the Mercedes Benz
I’ll go with the Panamera, but I will choose the Sport Turismo, love the hatch situation on the Panamera ST
Facelift range rover review next please?
Amazing car's all.....
The Panamera is a driver´s car. The S-Class is for sitting in the back, working and letting someone else driving. Total different concepts.
No its not, thats the maybach...NOT THE S CLASS.
I've never been a big fan of Porsche, but that one is nice.
Panamera road and wind noise is a killer. what were PORSHE THINKING?? epic fail on the panamera, cayenne is macan quieter. Merc dash is horrid.
Untertürkheim vs Zuffenhausen! Though choice, I take the one with pistons from Mahle in Bad Cannstatt :)
