      They are different cars. The Polestar 2 is a larger heavier car and I love the fact it runs on Android; the ID.3 is smaller and lighter and costs a lot less. The Polestar doesn’t feel as fun to drive but it feels quality like a Volvo; the ID.3 feels more sporty. I would say the answer for me would come down to how much you want to spend on the car.

      My wife has an ID.3. Overall it's a very nice car. Software is still buggy and there's a little too much cheap-looking plastic inside, but overall the car is likable. It drives well, is very well built (it's not a Tesla !), is quiet and refined, has decent tech, and with current deals it's not too expensive. I'm a fan!

    What tipped me away from an ID3: The fact that every single morning that I sit in, I would need to dig through menus to disable the lane assist. Tested on my rural roads and its more trouble than its worth.

    • @TechInTheCar

      Lane assist is a feature you have to get used to and you can adjust the sensitivity in the settings. I personally use it all the time as it adds extra safety but on rural roads with no lanes I imagine it might get confused and try moving you in the wrong direction

    It won’t work with a Tesla rapid charger because it isn’t a Tesla. Under the front bonnet isn’t a frunk. The 1st in the UK is a 1st Plus and doesn’t have wireless phone charging. The smaller battery on sale later this year is 45kWh usable, not 48kWh.

    • @TechInTheCar
      @TechInTheCar  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for the corrections! I did mention in response to other comments that there was no frunk. As far as Tesla charging goes - it did work because Tesla didn't authenticate initially what was connected but they shut that down but let's hope maybe that will change in the future. Unfortunately I have no way of updating the video after I have published it or I would as I hate mistakes!

    On the infotainment screen it shows 158 miles at 79%, so is the range for this car 200 miles. I mean if it was 80% that would be about 164 miles and do the math. I'm asking since this is the First Edition it seems would be the higher range. Over all, I want to know about the range, the real range of the ID.3 both options I believe one is 200 miles and the other is around 260.

    • @TechInTheCar
      @TechInTheCar  3 года назад +2

      The range of the first edition is meant to be 260 miles WLTP range, however we know that these ranges (just like the fuel economy numbers) are typically not quite accurate.
      I didn’t drive the car for long enough to be able to comment on it’s true range and the truth is I would have had to drive it for around 2-3 weeks to even get down to needing to charge again.
      In reality range is determined by how you drive, where you drive and the weather. If it is colder where you live the range is less. I would say 200 miles range when it is cold is a good estimate of real world use. If it was warmer then it would be closer to the 260. I hope that helps!

  • @paulkaye5076
    @paulkaye5076 3 года назад +4

    You said it will work with Tesla rapid chargers - it won't. You also said it has a Frunk - wrong on that one too - there's just a jumble of gubbins under the bonnet, no storage at all.

    • @TechInTheCar
      @TechInTheCar  3 года назад +1

      You are correct. Two things I got wrong. The frunk doesn’t exist as you said. As for Tesla chargers it DID work but it stopped working. However this was I believe an error at Teslas end and not a feature. The dealer told me it worked with Tesla chargers.
      I do try to edit out things like this but sometimes it just isn’t possible to do that. But your absolutely right.
      However this doesn’t change the fact that the car is great and fun and that you can still do rapid charging on the other chargers.

    • @mikejupp6040
      @mikejupp6040 3 года назад +1

      Yep you were quite correct - Tesla screwed up and for a time ALL electric cars could charge at their superchargers. There were humorous videos posted showing the free for all that many took full advantage of while it lasted.

    • @TechInTheCar
      @TechInTheCar  3 года назад

      @paulkaye5076 3 года назад +1

    • @TechInTheCar
      @TechInTheCar  3 года назад

      I hope that it does happen as it would create competition with charging points as well. The reason Tesla chargers are considered to be the best is along was the speed and how many of them that are around the country; is also that they always work and reliable.

    We have an ID.3 Business and a Mini electric. Whilst I agree in the main with your comments on the ID.3 when it comes to choosing what car to drive, my wife, daughter and myself will jump into the Mini electric first - now that is a fun car and is entitled to wear the Cooper S badging. We live in a rural area with a 10 mile drive on "B" roads to the nearest town, and the Mini comes into its own on those roads. However the ID.3 is mighty impressive with its quality, features tech and drivability and will improve with over the air updates and the dog likes the view from the back.
