      I HATE tesla 3's super aggressive regenerative braking that felt like I slammed on the brakes! I liked the Jaguar EV's
      slight regenerative brakes which felt like an ICE car. It's got Apple Carplay so what more do you want?
      I prefer a traditional car's buttons and knobs; I can use them by tactile feel without having to look at them and they're
      eye candy. I dislike the plaine jane spartan tesla interior.

    • @TotallyEV
      @TotallyEV  3 года назад

      Thank you, glad you liked it!
      As for the cable, when it's connected to your vehicle (any EV works the same way), it locks the cable with the car. So while people might be able to disconnect it on the other end, by say calling the provider and making them release it (which is bad, but we've seen it done before), there's no way you could take the cable away from the car side. Your cable will be safe :)

    Enjoyed your review. I had a 2016 VW e-Golf Premium and it was a great little car, fun to drive and had a sporty look. I just could not deal with the limited range. But this car seems to be much better with more advanced battery pack. And so any word on when the Id.3 will be sold in the US now that the ID.4 has already been sold here. I like the size of the Id.3 and hopefully it is more affordable. More to the point does VW plan to sell this car in the US and so far it looks as if it costs as much as a Model 3....way too much.

    • @TotallyEV

    18” steel wheels with wheel trims are standard on most of the range, not alloys. 18' alloys are around £650 extra.
    The Life spec is the only version with that interior at the moment, rear cup holders, armrest, seat back pockets etc are in all other versions.
    There is a space for charge cables in the boot under the floor.

    • @TotallyEV

    Different specs offer DC charging at 50kW-125kW, with most at 100kW. Type 2 AC charging is up to 11kW. Lane Assist being on as default was part of it achieving the top NCAP rating.

    Strong regenerative braking is less efficient because it requires more acceleration to get back up to speed, plus it works on the driven wheels only, so strong regenerative braking is not safe in slippery conditions.
    Btw, there is storage for cables under the boot floor.

    Very good review, and I like the fact that you tested a more entry level model rather than the top of the range that most other reviewers seem to do. I am definitely considering moving on to an EV when my current pcp ends. I need to do a 90 mile round trip commute but it won't be daily but more 2-3 times per week. I can install a charging point at home as well. Would you recommend going for the model with the longest range or one like the one you tested as I'd be able to charge the car at home as required. Would it impact on the battery if you top it up from 50% to 100% every time rather than letting it get to nearly empty then charging ?? Best Regards !

    • @TotallyEV
      @TotallyEV  2 года назад +1

      Thanks, glad you liked the review!
      As for the spec; it's worth noting that most reviewers (ourselves included) don't have the choice sometimes from manufacturers. Thus, it might explain why they got the top-spec trims; we were lucky in this aspect.
      As for range - that really depends on you, but from what you stated, don't think there would be any point in going for the more expensive model, as the base trim can realistically do 230+ miles; if you drive conservatively or within town centres only, expect north of that figure.
      When it comes to battery degradation, there's not enough data out there; but going from 50-100% isn't going to be the worst. Arguably, going from 0-100% frequently isn't ideal on any battery-operated device (incl cars); but yet again, many have their cars left on charge overnight and haven't experienced much degradation (sub 10%) over the course of 10 years.

    I'm glad they didn’t implement one pedal mode. For someone who switches between EV and ICE, it would be tiresome to have to drive differently for each. I'm really glad the driving experience is exactly like an ICE. No need to change braking habit. ICE drivers will instantly feel at home. Unlike some american cars, the brake pedal causes regeneration thus saving energy. Thank you VW.
    For me LKA is perfect, yes it lets you go near the line before it intervenes. This allows the driver to enjoy the drive without it intervening. If it were very strict in keeping the car in the middle, then it would feel like it’s is intervening all the time. That would annoy me like something bad. If we were allowed to let go the steering wheel, then yes, keep it strictly centred. By the way, LKA is an NCAP mandatory safety system, to have it disabled permanently would reduce its star rating, why would anyone want that?

    • @TotallyEV
      @TotallyEV  3 года назад +1

      But, one could still coast or have the same ICE experience with lower regenerative braking levels. Had they implemented level 1,2, 3 and B-mode for example (like is the case with a few of VW's other EVs) it could have been tailored to be harsher in B-mode, while ICE-like with level 1-2 for example.
      As for LKA, again, a few of VW's very own vehicles have far more intuitive and clever systems built-in. Why would you want it? Cruise control + LKA, allowing for better autonomy while on the motorway, all while keeping your hands on the wheel.
      As for the NCAP rating - having it there helps, having it permanently enabled each time you step inside isn't what other vehicles do (and still achieve 5-star ratings). Again, as mentioned, it's really not ideal for LKA to be activated on country roads, if anything it makes it harder to drive the vehicle, plus, it's not intuitive to switch off - as there's no quick-access button that is found on other vehicles (again VW's very own, too).
      Anyway, thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    Tesla killer. Hmm. I wish I had £10 for every-time some body said that I would be able to buy one. What I will say. it’s a good new addition to the Ev world of cars but it does have its faults like the build quality is not as good as you would expect from Volkswagen. It’s not as efficient as say a Kia e Niro or a Hyundai kona . And as for that Tesla it depends on which spec you go for as to it being £10,000 cheaper the top battery version is dam near the same price as the standard range plus modal 3. Before you add any of those Volkswagen expensive options like a heat pump. Then there’s the Tesla supercharger network which Volkswagen like any other car maker can’t match. Unfortunately. I do agree with you it drives very nice though and is definitely worth a test drive.

    • @TotallyEV
      @TotallyEV  3 года назад +1

      Well, here's the thing, in terms of price, in the UK, it's exactly £11k cheaper than the Model 3 SR, which offers the same quoted range. They also aren't as readily available, and aren't manufacturered at the same quantity.
      Quality wise, Tesla isn't a saint either, in fact, no manufacturer is.
      As for the Hyundai Group, absolutely. Both are our favourite EVs, but they're also crossover/SUVs, which not everyone wants or feels comfortable in. A hatchback or saloon, namely in the UK, makes for a better daily driver for most.
      Truthfully, it's just great to see more options, as you said, but it's hard to think that the ID.3 won't be popular and thus with some time, outstrip Tesla Model 3 sales in certain countries. Thus the thumbnail.
      Oh, and in terms of the charger network, it's again hard to comprehend, when there are so many charging providers now, that one doesn't have to rely on a single network provider. Yes, that does mean more faff, but there in ample supply, and from what we've seen in the South of England, there's pretty much a rapid charger by every Tesla supercharger.

    Your fooling yourself if you think that this hatchback is a Tesla killer. They clearly address two completely different markets and price points. The Tesla Model 3 totally destroyed BMW 3 series, Audi A4 and Mercedes C class combined sales in the USA. Ford even withdrew from the sedan/ saloon market altogether in the USA as they simply could not compete. The VW has sought to target the hatchback/ Golf market, but has a low rent interior and an infotainment system that simply doesn’t function properly. Pre reg and ex demo models have flooded the used market already and despite heavy discounts, the ID3 is cluttering up the forecourts. Range and efficiency is poor with the 58kwh version struggling to return even 200 miles between charges and the long range version has only 4 seats, WTF are VW playing at? Yes, it’s easy to drive and I hope VW can sort out the software, it feels like an opportunity squandered? Also how can you compare a Seat Mi or E-Up with the ID3? Again the
    Little cars are in a completely different class. The Hyundai Kona and Kia E-Niro or Soul will easily top 250 miles between charges.
