I tested the durability of the Altec Lansing mini Lifejacket. It’s survived water, being submersed, being dropped from about 20 feet high (TWICE), and it survived being ran over by my car. When it got ran over, it did crack the screw holes, but that was the only damage. I literally parked my car on top of it.

I'm rough with things. I camp, fish, hike, boat, all that and more so having the Altect MINILIFEJACKET 3, LIFE JACKET 3, and the BOOMJACKET 2 All work great but the main thing is that it won't break in six months, and that gives me the confidence to take it anywhere.

I have a job flip 4 and I can say it is hella worth it being waterproof, many colors, dual subwoofers and low frequency mode for more bass 🔥

Fionn hold down the Bluetooth and volume down button until the on/off button and battery battery percentage lights turn white and there ya go. All you have to do is do that again to go back to normal. Look it up on RUclips if this didn’t make sense

I've had a Jbl Flip 3 for about 2 months and i absolutely love it. Battery life is wonderful and sound quality is outstanding

It's 80 bucks,it has a lot,A LOT of bass,it's loud and portable.

I own the Soundcore Boost. Audio wise the Boost is about the same as my JBL Flip 3 but not as good as my JBL Charge 3 so I'd say its probably on par with these speakers.

have a Bose and a Soundcore and I can vouch for the soundcores quality - its sounds almost as good as the Bose and blows the pants off this bunch apart from not having the smart features
I got hit on my motorcycle with my JBL flip 4 on the handle bars and it flew about 100ft down a side street, I just herd the direction it went and made sure my brother went and found it , it did nothing to the flip4 not even cosmetic. But totaled the bike and broke bones .

I got an Altec Lifejacket XL Jolt for $100 at Target and it’s extremely durable and I work with sand and water so it’s great. Got a JBL Flip 4 for $80 just for fun. Saw the Sony XB20 for $45 dollars at Walmart so I’m gonna have to pick that up soon, you can’t beat that price.
The JBL Flip 4 has the low frequency mode so it boosts the bass more, but at full volume it distorts

I have the life jacket 3 and it doesn't suffer from the same distortion as the life jacket 2 overall I think it's more worth it to get the 3

Great review, however I just ordered the Altec Lansing iMW478 Mini LifeJacket 3 Bluetooth Speaker because the bass matters the most to me and that speaker seems to carry the bass much smoother then the all those you reviewed.

Soon I really like the altec3 a lot. the higher frequency ranges don't sound distorted in a very noticeable way to me.
You should have checked out jbl xtreme the bass is really amazing or the charge 3 the bass is good and it has good highs/mids

I got the Sony xb20 and I love it
Its all up to how it looks honestly if they all basically do the same thing for the same price range, i choose the jbl cause of the way its built and it has royal blue colorway.
The Sony XB20 does sound better (I had to go to showrooms to try them). The JBL and the rest only sound good if you use mainly MP3. Try lossless audio and the others start to sound weird. On the top tier only Sony XB20 and (not in the video) the Bose Soundlink and Revolve sounded similar. Good review.

Is reasonably loud...T6 has 2 360° 12.5-watt speakers. Sound very good, with beefy bass. Quite loud without decreasing bass if turn up the volume like the jbl flip 4 does...

In my opinion,the Flip 4 sounds too harsh and looses its bass on high levels,while the Boost sounds great no matter at what volume.
And on medium volume,the BassUp feature just beats the Flip in bass levels.

Decent audio, great Bass...Sounds great with EDM, Trance, Psy-Trance, Fusion, ambient, Bass Trap, etc...Anything in those genres it excels...My 2 favorite pocket sized units have to go to the Tronsmart t2, SOAIY 10watt balanced bass- the amazing sounding very small 10 watt short pocket unit that is quite loud for its size, and has bass that goes very low..maybe down to 50hz...Both of these are available on Amazon...For 23.00-18.00 USD s !!!

Im here to disagree with everyone lmao I’ve used altec for your years for hikes for beach days/bonfires for any and all terrain and weather and it’s perfect. If you just want one for your home or office I’d suggest going with the Bose sound link for only $130 but if you want to use a portable speaker well to be portable lol altec can be found at super discounted prices at target sometimes or if you get lucky other discounted stores, picked up my life jacket 3 for $30

I just got a jbl flip 4 and it is amazing. We have the altec Lansing too and it does skip back. Just hold the volume buttons.
The altec mini lifejacket 2 when I got it was $40 totally better then all of them at that price
I have Altec life jacket 3 and I have never had a better Bluetooth speaker. They last forever and are definitely waterproof floats even, can charge your phone from it. Not to mention you can pair 50 altec speakers together... 50! I have owned my Altec for over 6 years now every other Bluetooth speaker I have owned has gone to crap before that. Really glad mine doesn't have siri screw lazy people dude. Not to mention I paid 40 bucks for mine.

I found a ue wonderboom on a trail in the woods. I really liked it! I do a ton of river rafting and used it for a couple years until it died. I've purchased a few other no name brand speakers and none of them lasted more than a few months so I just bought another ue so I have something I know I can count on.

The Altec Lifejacket 3 is better than the 2 in every way, it’s just crazy. I’m sure if you compared the Lifejacket 3 to the other speakers, it would come out on top.

PurpleSmart4 literally same with any other UE model after wonderboom. They all have good sound. I'd personally go for UE and altec.

Please let me know your opinion, or any advice on this! These are my preferences: Detail of instruments (biggest preference - I’d like clear vocals, but instruments are slightly more important; instruments in general, not bass alone), mostly going to play lower volumes (lower half of the spectrum), and I’d like a slight bass (I don’t want it to sound like a phone, but nothing super dominating either. Better than average would be great). I’d mostly use it for myself and an occasional one to three extra people (not too much for parties and such). It would probably be the kind of speaker I’d use while laying in bed, outside in my hammock/tent, by the fire pit or by the ocean. Please give me your honest opinion, I’d really appreciate it!

If extreme ruggedness is your priority then Altec's Lifejacket is the way to go!
If ur gonna ride very HARD and very LOUD the altecs handle bar mount sux u should use bungees instead but I ran it over twice on my quad and it’s fine but I have a fmf on a kfx450r so it’s hard 2 hear
Personal favorite, is the UE wonderboom. While the jbl sounds better, it does sound fairly hollow (at least to my ears, I’m too used to tower speakers🤣)

The flip 4 also has a deep bass feature too, just press the Bluetooth and volume up button at the same time for about 10 seconds an you will go into low frequency mode

I have the UE Wonderboom. Sometimes it takes 5-10 minutes to pair with my laptop which is annoying. I think I paid $70 for it in 2017. I usually just wear earbuds (connected to my smartphone) when I work outdoors but maybe one day I will change it up and use the bluetooth wonderboom instead.

Needed one that floats so I got the wonderboom. Gotta say the sound is honestly really good idk if there is anything different about the black and white splatter paint looking one. Or maybe I'm easily pleased, either way its VERY water proof gets used in the shower every day, in the pool, lakes and it hasnt been bothered. Still want a flip 4 aswell lol

I personally have the Sony XB20 but I upgraded to a bigger G-Boom speaker. The Sony XB20 is personally a really great portable speaker but my G-Boom has a handle so I use it more than my XB20. The G-Boom is louder than the XB20 and has outstanding subs on the back. It was only $80.00 and is louder and has better bass than the XB20. But, the XB20 has led lights that light up with the music, the G-Boom does not. I would get the XB20 for a personal speaker and the $80.00 G-Boom more for entertainment.

Personally I think that the best speaker is that wonderboom because apart from being able to resist very strong falls it has 360 degrees sound and most importantly, it can get dirty with anything and easily cleaned, also it can submerge in the water at a depth of 1 meter and I do not even want to flinch (I'm sorry for my English, but I'm Spanish)

I have the wonderboom and all I can say about it is that it’s a pretty good speaker overall the only flaw is the loss of auxiliary cord but the sound quality is amazing also my sister has a jbl speaker that looks like the flip 4 but I’m not sure but I can say it has good sound quality and overall it’s s good speaker
The Flip 4 has a Low Frequency mode for more bass/volume
You forgot something about the JBL Flip 4. :p if you hold down the volume down buttom + bluetooth button you get a bass enhancement and the sound gets so much better

I’ve been thinking about the UE - I can get it brand new for $55. However, I don’t feel like I need 360 sound, and I want AUX compatibility. Would you say the Sony is more versatile, as I don’t need “dubstep” bass? (A little bass is always nice).
Also, for those who say Sony sounds like a Chinese cheaply made speaker - save it, cause it wouldn’t be in some many comparisons if it did.
Flip 4 AUX port is unusable. The problem is, it goes in some kind of standby mode in 3 seconds of low level or silence. And when I start playing again, it needs time to switch on and the attack of the first note is cut off. 3 second auto-standby is an overkill. This ruins the first tones of every track and quiet movie scenes! Keep that in mind!
2 xb10's beats all of them with sound, diversity and battery life. Amazing surround sound. You can't cut the others in two, and get if needed 32 hours battery life.
