    First thought: all of your videos are great to watch, but this one takes the Super Duper Absolutely The Best, So Far (the SDATBSF) Award! Second, I thought of a fan-based fund raiser: "Boone for a Day" Auction: get to eat, sleep, stretch ..., sleep, get rubbadubbies, etc. Third semi-brilliant idea: stealth cassette toilet tank covers so no one knows what you are doing: Igloo(tm) blue and white themed, knock-off Black and Doubledecker orange and black, colors and logo of the buyer's most hated sports team (like for me, blue and yellow lightning bolts for the owners of the Los Angeles (should still be San Diego) Chargers.
    Great traveling with you. Good idea to check the hubs every few hundred miles, even after you have confidence in a trailer. Stuff happens. Could not remember the name of your other dog, sorry. Happy travels.

    I grew up in Southern California and my brother went to Cal Poly SLO. Back in the day the farthest north the In-N-Out went was Camarillo. Had to always stop there on the way up to visit. Which was obviously quite often.

    That is EXTREMELY smart to check the hubs.
    Also - since you bought it and are the owner - get some axle grease and you can keep up on the repacking of the bearings yourself.
    Every long trip ( hundreds of miles ) it is wise to check the grease level. And if it is warm to hot - it needs grease.

    Tip from an old man (me) . . . I once had a bearing that was overheating. It was difficult to work on it with two burned fingers. Now I carry a non-contact infrared thermometer. With it I can check bearings, brakes, and tires for heat issues. Comes in handy welding too so that I know when something is cool enough to handle without gloves.

    Texas has some nice places, I recommend going to New Braunsfels, you can float the river, catch some red dirt at Gruen hall, eat some Texas BBQ and camp on the river as well. Then if you like wine like I do, you can hit Texas wine country which is highway 290 from Johnson City to Fredericksburg. There are a ton of nice wineries all along the highway kind of like Napa but on a smaller scale but still comparable. Fredericksburg is a really cool little town to visit also.

    Hey guys I can understand stopping when you get those coolant smells. On a long trip like that I’d be checking every stop. We used to have a guy sit with us in the morning where my friend and I worked and he would add sugar to his coffee and then it started, clink, clink, clink and it went on and on. It drove my buddy and I around the bend. Hahahahaha Thanks for the trip. Cheers!!!

    Better hubs now have Zerk fittings so just hit it with a grease gun from time to time….👍👍👌

    • @AmbitionStrikes
      @AmbitionStrikes  3 года назад +1

      It's pretty likely that this trailer has zerk fittings in the end of the spindle, I haven't pulled the cap off yet to look. My experience with those is that they shove grease inside the hub but it doesn't necessarily go into the bearings. But, as the saying goes grease is better than no grease. Thanks for the tip!

    That Insta-pot cooking while driving, is a great idea. It sure beats the foil wrapped Burrito on the exhaust manifold. Now you have me considering a cassette toilet. You gave a very good argument for one. See ...You can teach an old Dog new tricks.........

    • @AmbitionStrikes
      @AmbitionStrikes  3 года назад +1

      As long as you add a small fan to the cassette toilet, it really is amazing. Yesterday we went to our local RV dump (very convenient and free). The guy next to us in a travel trailer was getting the hose out, putting gloves on and kneeling over the hole holding the hose. Riley walked over to the drain, poured the cassette out and had it back in the camper before the guy could even say hi. He then promptly asked us what the heck that was and how he could get one... 😂

    As a fan it was fun for me to cross paths with you guys last Saturday morning on the 192 in Montecito. I saw what looked like a cool truck camper coming towards us which caught my attention then the whole family saw the writing on the truck. We also do the trip up to OR frequently so the route is very familiar and we've been to that same In & Out along the way. Even though this was different, I appreciated the little nuggets you shared like having the instant pot cooking while driving and getting rid of as much packaging as possible while still in the grocery store parking.

    I have a horror story regarding smelling coolant. Here goes. My truck had a small BYPASS hose that allowed some coolant to flow around the thermostat if the thermostat were to ever fail and be plugged up etc . . AND there was a small pinhole sized hole in that bypass hose - and coolant would get low over time periods and I would have to fill it up. So I go on a trip to Texas from Florida and the pin hole sized hole allowed coolant to ONLY squirt out whenever it got hot enough to build up enough pressure to push out the coolant. AND SO - I could NOT find where the leak was - but I could smell it etc . . And so - on that trip to Texas it got so low that the engine overheated ( on the highway and couldn't find an exit - after not paying close enough attention to the temp gauge as well ) and I was stuck in Alabama for 3 days while a mechanic there swapped head gaskets and planed the head. A nightmare and $ 1000. So - my point is - there can be a leak that ONLY happens when it builds up enough pressure to then push out the coolant through an opening somewhere. I finally found it by idling the truck with the hood open and standing there for over 15 minutes until it "geysered" the coolant for a few seconds. Only then did I find the leak.
    PAY ATTENTION to the temp gauge whenever you smell coolant. You DO NOT want a blown head gasket.
