Such a clear and concise teaching of the shuffle/half-time shuffle. You are definitely in an elite group of top drum teachers anywhere on the internet (IMO). Top stuff.
This lesson put me into the shuffle zone! Playing around with the bass drum variations was fantastic, perfectly inspirational. That alone had me shedding for hours, great stuff (as always). Thanks again Michi!
Excellent lesson…. Very well explained and simply broken down… and the variations are great…. I’ve struggled with this for a while and your lesson really helped, thanks!
I do appreciate your lesson, especially the nice progression, step by step. I have to say that I went through different tutos about half time shuffle, unfortunately they were not very clear and I therefore got lost quickly. Your lesson is excellent, thank you for your time. I wish you to succeed the best.
a friend of mine just came to visit and told me about the half time shuffle and he would try and learn drumming "rosanna" - i had a hard time understanding his handclapping and replied that i only knew shuffle beats from "gary moore - walking by myself" ... a song that my friend did not know ^^ - well long story short, your video explained it all very well and i will try some variations of it myself as soon as I'm finished tuning my snare xD
This is fantastic! Thx Hey, modern drummer is “doing” the HTS this month too. Is that where u got the idea for this? Mike (in the MD podcast) made a comment that for SUCH a famous groove, there are VERY few songs that use it!! Agree?
Definitely going to subscribe! Mike is kind of right. There are not too many songs using a HTS especially in Pop music. But in other styles they are more common. In reggae for example.
Putting that dotted 8th note bass pattern to 16th notes, then swinging it, then adding the ghost notes 👻🎵. THAT IS BY FAR THE EASIEST WAY I'VE EVER HEARD THIS EXPLAINED!!! I mean it's always.."play the first and third portion of the triplet with a slightly displaced version of the Bo Diddley beat underneath...blah...blah..." GEEZ!!! 🙄
The best explanation of this famous groove I have found on RUclips yet

Very nice, thanks! Now I need to practice switching from one ghost to another, and a double.. Love it!
Thanks for watching! I am also constantly working on different ghost note ideas.
These are great for practicing independence too, also in volume, especially because you switch and go against the right hand shuffle feel. So nice :)
It's so great to hear you are getting creative with these!

Hi Jim,
I wasn't aware that MD is doing the HTS too. Definitely going to check it out now.
Was Mike talking about Rosanna or HTS's in general?
Daily Drum Lesson in general he meant.
Do you subscribe to MD podcast. If not u should. Def up your alley.
Definitely going to subscribe!

You make it look so easy …
Can You play the 'same' beats in 6/8 or 3/4, is it easier? (for some stuff)...
Great breakdown, but the shuffle at 8:50 has fried my little mind.
