Just one of the best things ever with Floor joining NW is Marko didn't have to hold back his great voice anymore...

"eider covered in oil" An eider is a sea duck known for providing down for stuffing clothing and bedding for warmth. So an eider covered in oil is no longer able to keep itself warm, becoming a metaphor for dysfunction.
And easy prey for the "double faced carnivore" perhaps?
I actually had what we called an "eider down", which was what we would now call a duvet stuffed with that. It wasn't until this song that I came to realize that an eider was indeed a duck lol.
And can't fly, literally a "sitting duck"
Mmm. It also feels like a reference to pollution. So much in that one line alone! It's dysfunctional, can't fly, cold and a sitting duck. Also, ducks are meant to have oil in their feathers, it keeps them waterproof so they can float. But this one sounds like it's covered in far too much oil. Too much feeling, perhaps - too much love or obsession, to the point it's become toxic.

Happy to finally see this one on RUclips. Charlie's reaction to The Slide was solid gold. Underappreciated aspect of this song is getting to hear Floor's awesome lower range belting, which she doesn't get to use that much in Nightwish.
Noticed you haven't looked at Nightwish's Song of Myself. Might be an idea so as to explore Floor's Lower Register tone and timbre.

This is enormously impressive and fun, but still in a show-off kind of way. That last note in Ghost Love Score is sheer emotional triumph. Utter WIN. Once in a lifetime moment. Giving me gooseflesh every single time.

Pretty sure the highest note Floor hits in that slide is a D6. That's the highest note I've heard her sing outside of "Phantom of the Opera" on Beste Zangers (which is also a D6).
She can slide up to a F6 in the Romanticide slide. But it does not sound better than this one

Oh Charlie ! Eider. . . . . . .Over this side of the pond, we limeys, who never got scurvy in the sailing days of The Royal Navy, call your American comforter an Eiderdown, a thick quilted blanket traditionally stuffed with indeed, Eider down feathers.
I expect nowadays the Royal Navy gets to places way faster and ensures the crews have a sufficiency of vitamin C and no need to store the long-lasting limes for the trip.

Emmpu is using the EV-1 which is his signature from ESP. For a long time I thought it was an old school Horizon Custom and that might've been the basis for it but I'm unsure about that.
At the end, Jukka beats that cymbal like it's two months past due on a huge gambling debt! Earlier, the machine gun double bass is just epic!

Marco has been singing proffesuonally for like 30 years. It has been said that floor helped him get through a botched vocal polyp surgery that in his words "destroyed his clear tenor voice"
The last minute and a half of this song is the best minute and a half in rock history. It never fails to impress anybody

Especially if you followed Tank’s Nightwish journey 😂 The ESP EV-1 here in purple, like in 99% of their concerts, or he switches it up that 1% up the time and change to the other white/silver finish 😂 I laughed so hard I almost pooped my pants

I kinda know what's going on in Floor's vocal slide (cannot do it currently myself, lack of practice), but I had very little cue on how tenor voices transit. Very informative on Marko's case.

A bird covered in oil can't fly or regulate their body temperature. Oil spills are a death sentence for birds exposed to it without intervention.

Floor does great, butTarja's original version is astonishing perfection. Their only the studio version, and the operatic staccato in metal is her signature. Check out Romanticide (studio version), Slaying the Dreamer (End Of An Era Live), Dark Chest of Wonders (End Of An Era).

Tbh, one of the songs where i prefer Annettes vocal. Floor is my favorite NW singer, but i definitely prefer Annettes vocal.
Also one of the songs i think wasn't done very well at Wacken (not because of the band, but because of the mixing - the choir was too quit).

@@RonniePeterson Anette is a great singer, have a listen to her two albums in her new band and the work with Russell Allen. I think people give her way to much crap.
@@Deadlytenor21 absolutely agree her problem with Nightwish was her inconsistency live she was great one night then the next she was hopeless and I mean hopeless. I think that her problem was pacing herself and her voice and regardless of what you think of Floor or Tarja the greatest quality they share is that they are trained singers and knew their voices well and how to sing for multiple nights without impacting their vocals. Another singer who is not trained and has the same problem live (to a lesser extent though) is Within Temptation's Sharon den Adel...album work is stellar but her voice gets rapidly worse when touring. This is the huge advantage of vocal training.
