I disagree about male friendships being superficial, talking about emotions is not the only form of closeness or depth, one of the best things about male friendships is not needing to constantly spend time or be involved all the time. I recently talked to one of my guys that I haven't talked to in more than a year, and we picked up exactly where we left off without having lost any connection or bond. Knowing we can have our lives carry on, and then come together again is special

I used to believe in guys and girls being close only as friends up until last year. My close girl friend had broken up with her bf and she had needs she wanted met and since she trusted me so much, she asked me if I was down to start a fwb thing with her. I had never looked at her in that way but when she asked me, all the thoughts started rushing through my head and I folded immediately XD. We ended up getting in a fwb situation for about 6 months. We both caught feelings for each other, but still decided to keep it a fwb situation. Fast forward some months later, I meet someone, and she completely cuts me off due to things getting too weird since it was someone she knew. That was a 6 year friendship down the drain.

All my female friends I do find attractive, even if Im not initially romantically interested in them, I sometimes catch myself thinking about being with them since attraction can build overtime.

I'd say male friendships have different levels. Like you can have a friend that you would trust to watch your dog for 2 days, but you may not go out and get a beer with them. By the same token, you could have friends you party with that you wouldn't trust to leave by themselves let alone another creature. But if you find one that you could do both with those are your best friends that will last.
Same dynamic is true with male&female friendships. You might have similar sense of humor and go watch a stand up but you won’t go buying lingerie together. Or you might give each other a business advice but won’t come to each other’s apartments at 2 a.m. Every relationship has boundaries. Unfortunately, not many people are good with those regardless of gender. Being friends with the opposite gender requires learning and understanding of the social norms the same way any relationship does.
