  • The Feelies are a rock band from Haledon, New Jersey. They formed in 1976 and disbanded in 1992 after having released four albums. The band reunited in 2008.
The Feelies rarely worked with outside producers and created shimmering soundscapes with multiple guitar layers that set them apart from most of the punk/new wave bands of the late 1970s and early 1980s. They frequently played at Maxwell's, a live music venue and bar restaurant in Hoboken during the 1980s, often on national holidays.
Although the Feelies never sold a great number of records, their influence was felt on the indie rock scene. Their first album, Crazy Rhythms (Stiff Records, 1980) was cited by R.E.M. as a major influence.[citation needed] The novelist Rick Moody has also cited the band as one of his influences (and allegedly based the punk band in his first book Garden State on them).[citation needed]

The Feelies may be the ultimate example of the best ever obscure band . Some of the most hypnotic rock music in 80s came from this band and they are still active.

Another great band with a few good, hypnotic songs was Dream Syndicate, like "Still Holding to You."

The Feelies were great when I saw them open for REM at a Halloween Evening concert during the late 80s at the University of Vermont. I had one album and it was amazing! They had a sort of folk punk feel that complimented REMs music. Probably one of the most underrated bands of the decade!

Wow..they really nailed 'the ostrich' guitar sound! A truly worthy cover of one of Lou's greatest early songs. Fab.

I’ve come to the conclusion that the Feelies were not exactly a great band, but they made some GREAT music, including one of my favorite albums ever. How is it possible that I never heard these guys until my adult son turned me on to them? When is this world coming to?

Tsugaheterophylla, Mo Tucker would stand whilst playing the drums so her beat was deliberately offbeat or "out of balance." This is a good cover and if you're loooking for other VU type bands then check out The Dream Syndicates Days of Wine and Roses

I can't believe I've got to my advanced years and only recently discovered this excellent band!? Always loved the Velvets and this is the 2nd band I've heard doing an excellent job of covering one of their tracks this week, The other being a f**king wonderful version of 'Pale Blue Eyes' by The Kills, which if you've not heard, I would strongly suggest doing so!Huge thanks for sharing this Guyitho, really like it a lot.

i was most disappointed with their '90/ or '91 release. Sorry if it's your kind of thing, but it didn't work for me. The vigour they had in previous incarnations isn't present (for me, anyway). Cconsidering they were such a great band, I'm open to re-experiencing their sound. Any suggestions ?

Can't go wrong with a VU cover, but this is kind of weak. The backbeat is out of balance with the rest of the band, it's just annoying. Vocals are weak too. Overall it's colorless.
