It is always fun to see people's reaction to Mili's work. It is even better in game, those lyrics hits so frekin' hard! Especially in context. PS : Mili is the group, Cassie is the one singing and yes she had shown her face before.
The bloody books are a reference to the game Library of Ruina where guests who are killed during the Reception of the Library will turn to books. The song is somewhat right, but its about the Roland, the protagonist wanting revenge on the Head Librarian, Angela, for killing his wife after the events of Lobotomy Corportation. But Angela is impossible to destroy as an android so to do this, he needs to work for her and get the books by killing more guests until she gets the perfect book and become human and therefore mortal to seek his revenge. The song is played during the Final Phase of the fight against him. The quote "Though it may hurt today, tommorrow I'll be heading my way" is a reference to the signature quote of Library of Ruina, "this is this, and that is that"
"Deeper into the darkest depths. Fate made my heart cruel." "The paradise I only got to step in once… What did I do for it to be stolen from me so ruthlessly?" "Time stood still for me ever since that day. All I can see now is the life of the past, shrouded in darkness." "But if I forgave everything…" "If I decided to live down my past now, I felt I might have nowhere to stand." "And I felt I might have to let go of all these precious memories of it." "That’s what really scares me, Angelica." My favourite Mili song has to be 'Poems of a Machine', the end credits for Library of Ruina, simply for what it represents. A robot learning to be properly human, to forgive and move past her own self-centeredness and understand that others have suffered too. A man, who lost the one most precious to him, finally letting go of his grief and moving on. The fact that you basically have to go through 10 separate bosses, a 5-phase marathon boss, a 5-part boss rush, then a 3-part boss bonanza capped off by a Post-Credits boss fight means getting to the end of the Library is an arduous journey, both physically and emotionally.
you can see the context of the battle this song takes place in with the lyrics. being the revenge of someone who had been holding their anger in until the last moment for an opportunity of attack
After learning about Roland whos battle the song was made for and his whole story it really shows how he feels and now its all bursting out because he can finally do what he came to the library to do. He really deserved better atleast he sort of gets a happy ending at the end
yes! mili is great at creating dark vibes, even without particularly dark instrumentals and/or lyrics :D a good example, i think, would be 'from a place of love' - another song they made for library of ruina. even without knowing that part of the story from the game, a listener can still understand what kind of story they're trying to tell! to the average listener, it already sounds a little unsettling, but the full context makes it a bone-chilling song. aside from library of ruina, 'cerebrite' is one of my favorites from them! it has a very sing songy, almost fairytale-like vibe. it's not the most comprehendable when it comes to the lyrics, but that's part of why i like it a lot! i feel it contributes to the magical feel of the song and their style. 'nine point eight' is a prime example of an upbeat instrumental while telling a story of death, though it's more bittersweet rather than straight up sad. 'friction' is an older piece that really shows off the group's musicality. it doesn't have any lyrics to go with it, but it can still tell a story very well! i definitely recommend looking deeper into their lyrics if you're interested! they've got some good stuff in there also! yes, they have done live performances before! :]
In the opening song, Angela considers Roland a tool and thinks like a dog that listens to her. However, in , you can think of Roland as a friend and think of it as a confrontation between Roland and Angela. In particular, it is played on the piano as a whole, and Roland's wife and child in the womb died in an incident related to the piano.
Personnaly I love Children of the city, Poems of a machine, Mortal with you and Bulbel... Between two world, Space Colony, Utopiosphere and Rubber human is really good too... it's so hard to choose, all their music is a masterpiece. Also we can see them in Camelia.
Check out all Mili reactions 😊 :
