Scott Manley is the entire reason I know KSP and know anything about space flight and how rockets work. If it weren't for Scott I wouldn't be so hype of space x and the future of space flight
sad but true. i wish more about technical learning of rockets. Talk in deep of turbo compresor, multistage, cavitation...etc. or injector, shower type, swirling, or pintle and stuffs like that.
18:15 i looked at the first crash frame by frame, and it seems like you landed with a bit too much vertical speed, to where the rear landing gear bounced a bit, and causing spaceplane to rotate foward a lot during touchdown, which caused way too much stress on the front landing gear than it was meant to hold, so it failed, causing entire spaceplane to fall fowards and crash
I really like your long-form explaining videos, but also very much enjoy the shorter, funny, lighthearted letsplays. It's a like from me! (Also cool and very funny video idea!)
Just wanted to say I watched your videos seven years ago and came back to see what’s going on. I’m so glad to see that you’re still at it, even if it is with a bit more spacex fangirling 😜
haha welcome back! MORE SpaceX fangirling? I think it's just that we cover all the Starship launches and those take up a lot of time and effort, but I'm trying hard to not just make this channel about SpaceX. Been working on a video for over 6 months deep diving into the Apollo missions.
Kerbal Space Program is literally what helped teach me rocket science! Although it's fun and goofy, it's honestly the best way to intuitively understand the physics behind rocket science! It's SO fun
@ yes this made me wanna spend time on this instead of gaming 🤣 Is it free to use? I’ll look it up ☺️ I love space and rockets so I think I’d enjoy playing with it a lot
I am so glad you’re playing KSP again I’d love to see more videos like this loved the starship that you did years ago which explored the jewel system and I love this video that you’ve done. I definitely love to say it at least want to see a sequel video where it uses ChatGPT or Google Gemini as I have used those two to help assist me in creating more SpaceX style rockets, including coming up with the ingenious way of catching a booster, using docking ports as the catching pins at the bottom of the booster. It would especially be fun if you did more stock KSP videos cause then more people like me who have console could possibly re-create them.
yes! finally you returned to kerbal!! I found the game through you when oyu did the falcon 9 reusabel 2nd stage video, but after that you stopped with ksp :(
9:07 The mk2 fuselage parts do generate lift from the lifting body, so if the tank detached, there might be at least a tiny bit of hope for the Kerbals.
I'm thinking the platform was a space station part, supposed to be detached in orbit. Who said payload has to be inside the fairing? Dock a couple of those together and you have a big refueling/space station.
Around 21:30: That is a rocket launch platform. :-) Actually I had similar idea years back but with only one rocket on the platform. My idea was before SpaceX falcons were around: The platform would lift the rocket to a hight of around 10-20km (going of course a bit horizontally too) so that it could use vacuum optimized nozzles. After separation the platform would have landed propulsive, aided with control surfaces, without having experienced practically no re-entry heating. So I kinda invented a reusable first stage/platform. :-)
*@Everyday Astronaut* 11:40 I think you might be launching that design in the "wrong" way, it should probably launch more like the first version. :D The initial part of the launch should be mostly horizontals, where the atmosphere is thick & the wings gives much lift, then when just before it's staging time, angle up & launch upwards to orbit. If possible, mount the rocket at maybe a 45* angle on the launch stand?
I'm impressed you actually managed to land #3, but I notice you keep waiting too late on your gravity turns. That's why you end up with those extreme orbits.
Thats because tasking AI with this resulted in 0.000100000000003% of it's effort into rocket design, and 99.9999% of the initial time allocated... into first completeing Pi.
the meta attempts 1-2 and 3 remind me of a drawing of a hypothetical launcher imagined around the 2000s based on the shuttle propulsion stack the launcher brought together 2 complete propulsion stacks (2 X central tank + 2 X 2 booster) framing a super tank (3rd stage ??) at the top of which is the payload the "monster" was called the "1000T launcher"
You know I thought that 1st one you were looking at was actually landing not taking off and that it was actually about the same size as starship. Which is interesting from my pov, because boosters on a reusable upper section could be used for redeployment from mars or such. additionally it keeps the space in the central section for crew, electronics and other stuff. weight distribution etc.

Ground news adds are plague.
Sorry. Corporate media is over, independent media is the mainstream now.
Scott Manley: Moves from KSP to real rockets
Tim Dodd: Moves from real rockets to KSP
scott manley doesn't work with rockets and he's had a masters in astrophysics since the 90s
Scott Manley is the entire reason I know KSP and know anything about space flight and how rockets work. If it weren't for Scott I wouldn't be so hype of space x and the future of space flight
Tim Dodd actually started with KSP too.
@@peppapig9987yeah that’s when I used to watch his videos
sad but true. i wish more about technical learning of rockets. Talk in deep of turbo compresor, multistage, cavitation...etc. or injector, shower type, swirling, or pintle and stuffs like that.
21:37 ah yes the starship + SLS + Apollo platform, my favourite.
I thought the center one was Soyuz but with 8 side engines/boosters instead of 4
And don't forget there are airplane wheels below it
2:55 the top needs to be pointy. Round isn't scary
hahah😊
Pointy is scary👍
Now I am 100% sure you are watching cartoons
Dying of laughter at the VBA roof landing. Imagine if super heavy came in and did that for 5 minutes
I actually thought the 'H' stood for Helicopter, rather than 'Holy crap!'
I enjoyed this thanks.....but I'd like to see the same thing done with rockets from books & films. I vote for the Tintin Moon Rocket.
Feels like 2017 EDA!
Just having some good old fun!
This is awesome! Kerbal is actually what got me interested in rocketry and space in the first place.
Looking forward to the Apollo video!
same those old scott manley KSP videos are golden
18:15 i looked at the first crash frame by frame, and it seems like you landed with a bit too much vertical speed, to where the rear landing gear bounced a bit, and causing spaceplane to rotate foward a lot during touchdown, which caused way too much stress on the front landing gear than it was meant to hold, so it failed, causing entire spaceplane to fall fowards and crash
Good observation 😂😂
we have a aircraft crash investigator here
Yup. That is typically what happens in a crash: it was descending too fast when it reached the ground!
F104 aerodynamics. Difficult for novice pilots to land. 🙃
gotta ground effect flare touch kiss or else
That shuttle landing explosion and bg music stop was hilarious
its sad that the OG players still choose to stick to KSP 1. KSP 2 was such a wreck
No it's not. Modded KSP1 demonstrably better. Bit like the Mk1 human brain still being demonstrably better than so called AI. 😊
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
No it isnt. KSP 1 is just better. And playable.
Well, ksp 2 is dead, so
@@gojidoh Is it really dead now? Are they still promising to fix it or did they actually give up?
like the easier to digest videos. please do something like this from time to time
Hard disagree.
I really like your long-form explaining videos, but also very much enjoy the shorter, funny, lighthearted letsplays. It's a like from me! (Also cool and very funny video idea!)
43:42 *It takes flight, just like how bricks don't.* :D
Watching this is just a HOOT! You manage to pull off the impossible. So good.
2:51 I like remix of favourite song. Good.
Hey Tim, sprinkling in some simpler almost letsplay-esc kind of videos will definetely get a big thumbs up from me!
Love the new tunes! Can't wait to see them performed live at the Astro Awards!
Kraken absolutely ate that 19:24
I'm so glad the Astro Awards are expanding even further this year.
A flipping KSP video? Let’s do more of this!
its so beautiful to see a ksp video from you from time to time. i used to love them back in 2017/2018
I liked the Video and watched it complete.
Wow I made this exact format and video style TWICE In juno before this, the rocket even looks pretty similar
If anyone else made a video on this premise I’d think it was lame, but watching Tim play ksp is great
the number 2 didn't land because there was too much weight on the front.
What an awesome "let your hair down for Christmas" episode. You're awesome Tim. Have a great festive break 🎄
I did not expect to see the most ridiculous-looking design to be the most successful...
Big hugs from Netherlands for everyone!
Shame the event won't be livestreamed but I'll wait patiently for a recap on RUclips!
Just wanted to say I watched your videos seven years ago and came back to see what’s going on. I’m so glad to see that you’re still at it, even if it is with a bit more spacex fangirling 😜

@ your videos are great man thanks for everything. You single-handedly got me interested in space
I say if we can measure rockets with bananas, that plane can have a 0-2-A+ rating.
Good show.
Love these types of videos!
thanks for a well announced and timeline'd ad read.
10:20 of course, it's a launch-assist catapult!
These kind of videos are awesome!! Keep them comming!
what a video! loved watching that man
40:06 Ok, all rockets should include fireworks from now on! 😄
If managers insist on justifying the fireworks' mass, just say they're for RCS! 😁
3rd rocket: we're taking the launch/landing pad with us
Thanks Tim, that was FUN ta' watch!
The Space Shuttle Berkut is crazy
I have never seen this program! This was so fun to watch! :)
It's not free, but it's pretty inexpensive. Don't bother with KSP 2, it's dead unfortunately and quite glitchy
I am so glad you’re playing KSP again I’d love to see more videos like this loved the starship that you did years ago which explored the jewel system and I love this video that you’ve done. This was hallarious and i lived it, please do more!
So now we know that as long as we flea Earth the AI takeover can't follow us because it doesn't know how to make a proper rocket. 😂
Let's see some never-built, untested, theoretical retro future rockets in KSP!
Absolutely love this kind of video!❤❤
31:30
*rocket slams to the ground from 100m, ends up in pieces
Tim: That wasn't bad :D
Oh this is great! Needed this! Thanks!
what version of ksp is that?
Please do more of this, I really miss your KSP videos!

This is it! The once-in-a-month video we've all been waiting for!
Fantastic, this idea of yours is so original :-) if I see it anywhere I'll know where Iv seen it first haha, entertaining!
Meta AI 3 has got to be the most Kerbal rocket ever! 😂
A lot of fun--thanks, Tim!
*@Everyday Astronaut*

Check your staging Tim🤣
I'd love to see what you can tackle in JNO/SR2 if you can get passed the learning curve of craft design!
Happy to see a return to the lighthearted KSP
Solid source for content =)
This was great fun. I have no idea what so ever how you got that last one to fly. 😂
Back to the roots!
32:39 ^.^ I'm SO happy for you, right now!
Nice to see you dropping KSP on RUclips
Love the vertical take of and landing SSTO Spacestation
Someone call the Blunderbirds to go rescue the crew of that first launch. 😅
I'm impressed you actually managed to land #3, but I notice you keep waiting too late on your gravity turns. That's why you end up with those extreme orbits.
These designs are freaking stupid and I love every single one of them
With the single stage ai, think pyramid for aerodynamics. Although landing is always calculated.
Definitely more "art" than "official" in some of the artificial intelligence 🤔
Yes absolutely. This video is purely for fun and a joke
The Meta 2 Rocket looks a bit like an space shuttle with the influence of an SR-71
Hahaha I almost KNEW it was gonna BLOWUP!! That was great tho!! 😂😂
Thats because tasking AI with this resulted in 0.000100000000003% of it's effort into rocket design, and 99.9999% of the initial time allocated... into first completeing Pi.
Tim, wouldn't be nice if the AI program could also create the rocket design in Kerbal, test it, and using the results iterate on the design.
That first rocket was probable a good option for the lowest felt g forces to orbit.
the meta attempts 1-2 and 3 remind me of a drawing of a hypothetical launcher imagined around the 2000s based on the shuttle propulsion stack
the launcher brought together 2 complete propulsion stacks (2 X central tank + 2 X 2 booster) framing a super tank (3rd stage ??) at the top of which is the payload
the "monster" was called the "1000T launcher"
The weird triple rocket has a parachute at the top that could have helped.
Omg, going classic again! Always up for some ksp😍
Number 2 I could see as a realistic ish cargo ferry.
The AI was able to make a spaceplane that was barely functional and yet it was better than mine XD
The one on the left is a cupola, but the right one looks like an aerospike
Something new 😊
🤯 That was crazy watching the "Runway" pop on the 1st rocket.
It may have been not the most efficient use of rockets and moders but it was worth seeing.
40:05 [Morgan Freeman narration] This would Not be the last time that he did fireworks ^.^
Don't launch the rocket, launch the launchpad. - AI
Very Entertaining
The second one didn’t land because the front was too heavy.
Miss the old school days of KSP. Is a photoshop stream next too!?
Funnily enough I actually had this idea a couple years back. Although yours are definitely more unique and unusual!
The first rocket failed as the MK2 body is a lifting body and thus is forcing the rocket to roll placing it on top.
Try Gemini 2 flash with vision controls how should you build one. Great content!
Juno has way more options and one you learn to build. You can build literally anything
Yay!!!! new EDA music!!!!
Hey Tim! Is there going to be a livestream or patrons only livestream for the Astro Awards?
All my Kerbal rockets are A+ fireworks machines
Great Work!
