Hi Dr. Park, I just went to a dentist here where I live, they did full set of x-rays, including 360 degree CAD and he said that due to a tiny rounded mark at the END of the root (barely visible), I would need a root canal. He said this was an infection. I told him I NEVER had any pain nor do I have any now. This is an upper molar with an old amalgam filling that caused a small chip to come out of my tooth, about 5 years ago now actually and as I said, I've never had any pain there. He said the nerve was killed, but wouldnt it hurt at least in the beginning IF there was an infection there to kill the nerve? I saw nothing weird on that tooth in the x-ray, the pulp chamber and root looked exactly the same as the other teeth. Two other dentists I went to never said a word about needing a root canal in that tooth. No sensitivities there, no pain, no abscess, nothing. I'm wondering if its necessary to drill out all the old amalgam (mercury) even prior to the crown thats needed on it. Should I not go back to this dentist or not? Thank you!
Damn I got all of these symptoms. Haven’t been to a dentist since they did a root canal on me when I was 12.
Might be a good time to go see a dentist! Hopefully its nothing major going on, but the longer you wait, the worse the situation can get!
My tooth is so infected and in so much pain that I had to go to the hospital for pain medication. For me I had ongoing sensitivity with that tooth that felt like a nerve was exposed and then I just started experiencing a lot of pain
Sorry to hear that you have been experiencing discomfort...
Hope you are starting to feel better, and make sure to schedule an appointment with your dentist so that you can see what is going on!
I also having same symptoms
Don't do root canals do an extraction and get a ceramic or titanium implant it's better trust.
Sounds like you needed a root canal to me!!! Hope you got it taken care of!
GREAT VIDEO THANKS YOU GOODNESS 🌟 DAPHNE COTTON ALWAYS 💜
Thanks for watching!
I had got permanent deep filling day before yesterday and dentist told me that it is filled on borderline I may have to do root canal if the pain persist. On first day it was pretty dull ache on my tooth with lot of sensitivity on that area, on 2nd day it was dull too but started suddenly paining at night so couldnt sleep. But now on 3rd day sensitivity has been reduced but tooth aches a lot after drinking hot or cold water after like 5 mins. Should i visit the dentist or wait for some days. I need your advice pls!!!!
I see. Thank you for the information
If the pulp of a tooth is infected can the body clear the infection itself? I had pretty severe pain in one of my molars about four months ago after hard chewing but is fine now with just slight sensitivity if chewing harder than average.
That’s a good question
Generally, once the pulp of a tooth is irreversibly infected, there is no coming back from this.
The symptoms or pain you have on the tooth may decrease over time, but this may be a sign that the infection has gotten so bad that the nerve of the tooth has died.
If you have sensitivity to chewing on the tooth, this may be a sign that the infection has spread to the bony structures beyond just the tooth itself. This can possibly eventually spread beyond just your jaw bones, and can start to extend into your neck, airway, or even your heart!
If you are concerned about things, I would definitely recommend scheduling an appointment with your dentist to get things checked out!
@@smileonyouandblessedsmile I posted above but this situation is making me realize that due to the fact that I've NEVER had any pain whatsoever in my tooth I discussed above, that for the dentist to tell me the nerve WAS dead is a lie, because in order for it to be killed I would have had to have an infection there, and as I said above, I have NEVER had any pain in that tooth, none of them actually.
For 3 weeks now My teeth gets sensitive for 10 sec when i first drink cold or hot drinks + i cant chew on it any hard food!!. Other than that i dont feel any pain!!! is it sensitivity or do i need root canal
Sometimes tooth can get very sensitive if you have been having lots of sweets or acidic foods. You can try out using some sensitivity toothpaste but if its been a few weeks and not getting better, may be good to go get it checked out!
What if I’m not experiencing any of those listed symptoms but I was told I needed a root canal? Is it still possible that I would need one or should I explore other options and feedback from a different dentist?
I am in the same boat. I don't have any pain but, my dentist told me I need one in my particular tooth. I am going to have a second opinion before I decide. A root canal is very costly and then a cap over the tooth is even more money. What has been your experience so far please? What happened with yours?
@@peacelovejoyandhappiness I actually found a second dentist who ended up being wayyyy more thorough. I told him my concerns about costs with the root canal. With the testing he’d done, mostly checking to see if the infection reached the nerve and if I had ultra sensitivity, he said we could move forward with pulp capping. I’ve had my cap for a few months now. It’s always best to just get on top of it ASAP.
Also slight disclaimer, I have insurance, didn’t cover a whole lot, but depending on your situation there’s always dental payment plans/credit you can look into.
@@foxeysunrise you are so thoughtful with your reply. I will definitely see a second Doctor and praying I can get a filling too. The quicker I can get there, the better. Sort of like car problems, they only get worse if you don't take care of the small problem. I have insurance too but, we both understand that doesn't help much. You're the best! Thanks again.
Although I have tried to go over the MOST common signs you may need a root canal, there are many other reasons that you may need one!
It never hurts to get a second opinion from a different dentist if you are concerned. You want to make sure that you are comfortable with whomever is treating you!
Some dentists will recommend getting the root canal to avoid any future potential pain, even thought it might not be bothering you now. Some others, may want to try avoiding it, but will let you know that if it bothers you in the future, you may still need one
I'd find another dentist! I've encountered the exact same situation, and I believe they're simply trying to pad their profit margins. I was told I needed two root canals done on molars, one of which is chipped but no pain ever, and then he tried to tell me the nerve was killed by the infection. IF I ever had an infection it would come with pain, therefor I had none. Good luck finding an honest dentist, I cant find one in my town!
Black on teeth that means i will be needing a root canal?? I don't have any pain only a black spot in between two teeth
Thank you Sir ❤
my molar teeth is half broken with some part of the molar teeth still in my gums and the other teeth is completely broken but there is no growth of a new teeth..
If it a permanent adult molar tooth that has broken, there will unfortunately be no growth of a new tooth. Sounds like something you may want to get checked out at your dentist!
@@smileonyouandblessedsmile Can I do anything about the other tooth which is still there but half..
@@Greecebar It is hard to make any official recommendations without taking a look myself, but if the tooth is broken in half, there is a good possibility that you may need to get the remaining part of the tooth removed.
I have had several molars break on me. They have been able to be restored with crowns. I did have one break due to deep decay weakening the tooth. Two dentists confirmed there was no fixing this and I got the tooth extracted.
Maybe your broken tooth can be crowned? I would consult a dentist about this option.
Can you please please help me telling how many years can rct with crown will work properly for deciduous molar which is broken from side. Or should i go for pulp capping then filling if possible.
With lots of hope I am sending this to you please help to come to a decision of saving my tooth for as long as possible.
Btw i am 20 year old.
Depending on the extent of decay, and how much of your tooth you have left, both RCT or pulp capping with or without crown can be good options for saving your tooth. If you are concerned about your options, never hurts to get a second opinion just to ensure you have explored all your options.
@@smileonyouandblessedsmile thankuuuu so muchh 😊
I think I maybe in this situation I’ve been having cold sensitivity for a while been to dentist twice once for cleaning and recently for this sensitivity... he says no cavities, but it’s angry and he can’t figure out why? Gave me some MI PASTE to try and it helps for awhile but it comes back I have an old filling in it and don’t wanna risk losing the tooth! Any idea? Thanks for the video and I’m using Senodyne
The sensitivity could be from a number of different reasons such as exposed roots or gum recession. MI paste and sensodyne are great products, but they work best when you leave it sitting on the teeth for at least 30-45 minutes. If you are rinsing immediately after applying it or brushing with it, you are washing all the medicine down the sink.
Also, if your sensitivity is still not resolved, never hurts to get a second opinion just to make sure there is nothing underlying going on!
I went to the dentist a few weeks ago, they did xrays and said my teeth are in great condition. Even though I was complaining of tooth pain and I asked for a filling in a place I felt needed one but the dentist said I really don't need it but put toothpaste on that sore tooth for a week and leave overnight if after a week and it's still sore he would fill it in. After a week it was still sore but due to his availability on making an appointment I couldn't wait as the pain was getting worse so I went to another dentist, they did xrays again, some in different areas of the mouth the previous dentist did not do and it picked up 3 small holes that the other dentists xray did not puck up. His xray still showed a perfect tooth on the original one I was going there to fill in. As he was drilling into the tooth, he was surprised to see decay in it as xrays did Not pick it up. I'm glad I went elsewhere and trusted my instincts about my teeth.
why are root canals so frickin expensive?
They are so expensive because our cousin or brother can't work on our teeth. Dentists are a monopoly. They can charge what they want. That's why it's important to have a dentist to trust and respect. One with integrity is the best dentist to have. Best wishes.
I think because it is hard af
Root canal treatments can definitely become quite costly as they are procedures that require a lot of time and experience to perfect.
However, the alternative, more affordable treatment is to just remove the tooth, which can affect the way you look or how you eat or smile.
It all depends on how much you value your ability to smile and eat comfortably! Hope this helps!
@@smileonyouandblessedsmile A smile is contagious and also is very important to me! I want to take care of my teeth for the rest of my life, so I keep them. Thank you for your helpful advice here. You are very kind.
Really? I only had a copay of $45
Hello,i have slight overjet/overbite and have to wear braces but im amateur mma fighter. My question is can i traim with braces? (My dentist will make custom-made mouthguard so it can fit better and protect my teeth)
My dentist said I may need a root canal. But i do not have any if the symptoms you discuss. I complained about sensitivity to pressure, following a below the gum line front surface filling. This started as soon as the dentist put the filling material in. That was more than 14 months ago. In all that time the sensation has not changed - not worse but not better. The sensitivity is NOT anywhere near unbearable. I really feel it is just due to the filling being close to the nerve. Last three months I've added warm salt water rinse to my tooth care 2-3 times a day. I do think the sensitivity has gradually reduced.
I just can't justify basically killing my tooth when it's really not causing any serious issue.
Dealing with the same thing literally just left the dentist. Told me I needed a root canal due to nerve damage I have no sensitivity no pain and do my yearly check ups
Sometimes a sensation of pressure without tooth sensitivity could mean that the tooth nerve has gotten so irritated that the nerve has already started to die, starting to create an infection below the tooth. This would give you the sensation of pressure in the area, but the tooth may not be sensitive because the nerve is starting to die. Its hard for me to make any specific recommendations without taking a look myself, but if you are concerned, always a good idea to get it checked out again!
@@smileonyouandblessedsmile Thanks for the reply. Not concerned at this time but if it does get worse, I WILL then have it checked out.
@@smileonyouandblessedsmile So, it DID get worse (seeing pus seep up when pressing on it). Saw endodontist last week. His evaluation and CT scan found a HOLE in the root - bone resorption. He said a root canal would not be advised, best to get it extracted.
@@darylbarlow00 Find another dentist! I'm in the same boat, no pain, and yet recommending a root canal, WHY? is my question! A previous dentist looked at the same molar and simply stated a crown would be enough, never said anything about a root canal, so I think my latest dentist today is a con artist, but he didnt get the job because of it.
I just took out my old crown about 2 weeks ago. When I had the temporary crown on I had nonstop pain. It went away after about a week but I haven’t chewed on the affected side. Now I have my permanent crowns on and chewing makes it very sensitive. The dentist said he may have shaved too close to my nerves when he took out a cavity. I have no pain now- just sensitivity when I chew. Is this enough reason for a root canal?
This should hopefully be a good sign that the tooth is starting to recover! Something to definitely keep an eye on, if it starts to get worse, you may possibly need a root canal in the future.
@@smileonyouandblessedsmile it’s been a while now and I don’t have pain but i can’t chew on it because it’s sensitive. Do you think pulp capping is a good option? Or do you suggest another root canal alternative?
Hello so my tooth is very sensitive when chewing food on it, so basically i cannot eat on my right side. There is pain and sensitivity on on one of my bottom right tooth. Through the scan there isn’t an infection. Why is this the case? I’ve already gotten a filling and a cap done on the tooth. Is an infection needed to get a root canal done?
If you just recently had the work done, it could be as simple as just giving your body more time to heal. But if it has been a while, may be a good time to get it checked out again.
what if there's no infection? can one just cap the tooth (which may have fine crack or such) and see if that works instead of directly going for a root canal everytime?
It all depends on the specific case, but if there is no infection and no large cavity into the nerve, there are definitely situations in which a tooth can be capped without needing root canal treatment. Hope this helps!
@@smileonyouandblessedsmile ...ah...yes. noted. So basically, if the internal pulp has not exposed, and if the nerve has not been exposed, and no infection, then a crown can be considered. I will bring that up with my dentist when i visit. Many thanks.
I don't have any of them but the bluish blackish appearance. Will the dentist recommend a root canal or can it be filled? I don't feel any pain there but I feel pain in other teeth which don't have that appearance
It is hard to say definitively without taking a look, but if your tooth is starting to get a blue-black color, it could possibly mean that the nerve of the tooth is starting to die, resulting in the color change. However, this color can come from other sources as well, so make sure to get things checked out with your dentist!
@@smileonyouandblessedsmile I went to get it checked. The doctor who checked initially said it could be filled, later another doctor came and said I needed root canal. I sent the x rays to a dentist relative who also said it could be filled.
I don’t have any of these symptoms however, I’ve been having nerve issues in my brain idk if that can cause anything
Sometimes, teeth pain can "refer" to different areas of the body. If you are concerned about any discomfort, make sure to get things checked out! Hope this helps.
Thanku😊
👍
I dont have any of them but my last corner molar teeth has become like a hole... But dont have any pain... Will i need a root canal or just filling
Although it's hard to say without taking a look myself, it sounds like your tooth is pretty broken down. Depending on how much of the tooth is left, it could possibly need a root canal, filling, or crown to fix it, or it could also be too broken down to fix, in which case the tooth may need to be removed. Hope this helps! Make sure to make an appointment with your dentist to get it checked out properly!
I dont have any of these symptoms and the dentist is asking me to do it because of xray.
Sometimes you may not have symptoms, but the x-ray may show that you have a developing infection for the tooth. By the time it starts to bother you, it can be too far gone to fix it. I cannot say exactly what your case might be, but hope this information helps!
I went to see a Specialist he said my tooth nerve has no feelings, or could be dead still looks clear but the cold swap on the tooth and I did not feel much ache.
@@andrewnguyen612 In order to kill a nerve you would have to have had an infection, which is painful! You would know if you had one trust me. Nerves dont die for no reason. The dentist I went to today tried to tell me that some "older" people end up with all the nerves in their teeth dead! No reason why, they just DO! Yeah right. 🙄
I had a toothache, head ache, throat swelling on one side and warmthness around that area
Sounds like a possible infection to me!
Do you always need a crown after a root canal?
I am pretty certain you do need a crown over the tooth. They need to carve down the tooth I think in order to get the infected areas of the tooth out. Crowns are very expensive too 😢.
It depends on the tooth. I just had a root canal on #13 and he said I don't need a crown but a filling. Hope this helps.
It all depends on the scenario! In many cases, a crown is recommended as the root canal procedure does hollow out your tooth which can make it more prone to cracking or breaking. The crown helps to re-enforce the tooth so that you can continue to use the tooth everyday to eat and smile!
I've learned that it depends on which tooth is involved. Molars generally will need a crown because they get a lot of pressure from chewing. But a front tooth may be able to get away without a crown.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I might need a root canal, wish me luck ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
