Caterham Seven 340R - Is there enough power for Nordschleife? 👀

- Caterham Seven 340R is ready for trackdays straight from the factory. Mainly thanks to the roll cage. But is the Ford Duratec 1999cc, 4-cylinder, NA engine powerful enough for the long climbs on the Nordschleife?
To be honest, there is not so much power to spare. So as a driver you have to make up for this elsewhere. It is in the late braking points and technical passages where 340R immediately catches up with others. This can be great fun for some drivers, but the other way around for the others - you get passed by an ordinary Cayman on every straight :) That being said, we thoroughly enjoyed our first experience with the 340R on the Nordschleife!
Always that one rental which can't stand the idea of being overtaken, self-proclaimed king of the ring.
That is why hey should ban rental boxes in the weekend. They are mobile chicanes....

@@flat4-or you could argument that they should ban ppl trying to set fast lap times during TF. Its called tourist driving for a reason.
That said, the guy in the Cayman should have checked his mirrors and let him pass. He was clearly not very familiar with the circuit nor the car.
@@frankberben-grsfjeld4726 indeed. Both reasons why I skip this year to come over. Also the amount of wannabe street racers at the surround roads and specially the ED tankstelle heroes…..
But luckily I have 2 Eifel road books from a great editor ! 🥶 choice enough for a good drive….

It lacks aero but still was very stable at high speed. Sector 3 could have been so much faster without that Porsche

A power to weight ratio of far below 4 kg per hp is plenty fast enough, if you ask me. Yes, it could have more power on the long uphill section towards "Mutkurve", but this is the only part where I would feel a bit underpowered. And thanks to the low weight you can bring so much momentum out of the corners.
The Cayman driver is an absolute disgrace, absolutely selfish driving there. It is only for these occassions you would yearn for a "double the power for 10 seconds" button in the car.

170hp is enough in a Civic let alone a Caterham.
was the red 992 gt3 at 2:12 a cup car? It just walks away from anything, during turns and in straights, like everything else are obstacles

Well - if MX-5NC with that engine is good enough for Nords... and you take 600kg's from it... yea - it's even better for Nords :D
With the aero of a brick, I wouldn't be surprised if the MX5 and Caterham were equally fast (err, I mean slow?) above 120 kph.
Wonder if there are some acceleration curves out there...

I tried to get in one but i'm 190cm and i can't fit 😢
You can get a widebody (sv) with lowered floors. I'm 196 and fit without issues.
