Wet Sanding And Buffing The 1968 Camaro "Reloaded" Custom Paint Video V8TV
After the BASF clear had hardened on our 1968 Camaro called "Reloaded" the surface looked really nice right out of the spray booth. But we were going for a mirror flat and shiny surface on this car, so the next steps were included wet sanding and buffing the car using the 3M Trizact system. The final result is a car that shines like wet paint, and is glass smooth.

Nathan did an AMAZING! job sanding down that car! I'd love for him to do that on my 87 Camaro if I had the money for it.

Thankfully, this car was sanded so many times that there were no scratch areas that came back to reveal themselves after buffing. However, we did polish it again after several months had passed, as the clear had time to completely out-gas and evaporate all the remaining solvents, and a couple areas benefited from another polish.

@nightpwner The 800 was primarily on the stripes to knock down the edges. Yes, it is rough, and you have to be careful to not sand through or leave scratch marks.

You aren't kidding about the final blue pad revealing all the imperfections in the paint. Our candy and metallic paint job looked great before wet sand and buff, but after final buff, a few areas of mottling and minor striping in the candy became more obvious. But overall turned out great.

Did nathan find any 800/100 grit scratches left behind that he had to go back and fix after he had started buffing?

What can you guys tell me about the protective tape that you used on this project ,to protect painted surfaces as things were put together? I am just about at the stage of starting to assemble my 69 Camaro, and need as much info as you have. A name, price ,part # etc.
    Thanx
