Sacramento has the ultimate powertrain. They still have Orion Vs in service with this powertrain. Theyre suppose to be retiring their 2002/03 Orion VIIs pretty soon too.
The ones we have in New Orleans in 1997 sound completely different from those it remind me of the ones in Shreveport , Louisiana. I think theirs have CNG tanks on top and their Orion I buses sound the same way .
Central & Northern California is Orion country. From Bakersfield to Yuba City. It sucks that they had to shut them down. ElDorado seems to be popular over there too.
Its a neat bus to drive..i like it. the other drivers hate the fact it sways-typical orion I love it. Do sacramento any more of these in service ? I also heard they were looking to replace the 2003 Orion VIIs too-is that accurate ?
OMFG!! Listen to that bus! I rode a few of these back in 2003 and wish I had a camera that I could have recorded them with. Is this bus now privately owned?
I had to comment again…you drove the shit out of that! As for Yuba City having Orions, they do not; they have Optima Opus', and Butte County, just north of Yuba-Sutter has Orion NGs and 2000-built Vs. But, yes, Nor and CenCal is Orion Country…and lately its becoming New Flyer country as well, with Fresno, Vacaville, Elk Grove, Davis and Stockton having New Flyers.
That is a beast to drive, as for are there anymore? Sadly, no. The 2008 NGs replaced them. Our 2000-built Vs were sold to Elk Grove. Yes, what you heard is true, our 2003-built VIIs are to be replaced beginning in 2017.
do you have your own bus fleet and do you own this but i love it i never heard a zf ecomat with the setup like lonisland buses old allison b4oo models and listen to that hum and the blow off valve she still runs like new
Yes RT wants to replace the Orion VII's. I've heard 2017 but I think it's gonna be sooner. Supposedly some have already been retired and quite a few are in the reserve row at 29th & N. The talk is that RT is seriously considering the Gillig CNG. Whatever you do stay away from those Orion VII's they have no power at all.
since you are a bus driver im curious cause i wanna work on orion buses and drive them arent they better than new flyer buses to they are and more faster than new flyer
wow never heard an Orion that sound like this.love it.Orions were and forever will be the best buses ever built.
Woah I never heard a orion sound like this. I love that whine!!!

Eddie, u the man bro! This reminds me of home back on Long Island. Great video
Ahhhh You are Da Man Eddie. Thanks for uploading this. I used to drive these at Yolo Bus. I love that sound of the L10G and that ZF Trans.
WIN! WIN! WIN! I miss driving these guys before they were replaced by the 2800-series NGs.

I remember when SacRT bought these. The 96s were way more aggressive on the takeoff than the 93 and 94 Orion Vs
Bob Ambrose Jr.
Good info. Are you from Sac as well ?
Yes sir I am
YES YES SO MUCH WIN!
A L10G with a ZF Ecomat is my favorite powertrain combo
They're similar to our 1990 models and they were fast too.
Beautiful T_T
thank u
Love the downshift on that ZF
sounds like a 6v92 Engine.
OMFG!!! I JUS MADE A STICKY MESS LMAO
Central & Northern California is Orion country. From Bakersfield to Yuba City. It sucks that they had to shut them down. ElDorado seems to be popular over there too.
Is this bus still around
Its a neat bus to drive..i like it. the other drivers hate the fact it sways-typical orion I love it. Do sacramento any more of these in service ? I also heard they were looking to replace the 2003 Orion VIIs too-is that accurate ?
This bus is owned by Transit Systems here in Los Angeles.
OMFG!! Listen to that bus! I rode a few of these back in 2003 and wish I had a camera that I could have recorded them with. Is this bus now privately owned?
so how's that bus running right now and do you have your own transit system because I know you have a lot of buses you been driving
I had to comment again…you drove the shit out of that!

Excellent!!!!!!! Whats the status of this here beast?
since you are a bus driver im curious cause i wanna work on orion buses and drive them arent they better than new flyer buses to they are and more faster than new flyer
The first gear on an Orion V is usually a half gear then quickly jumps to second if its either a Voith transmission or a ZF .
