    Love that weed fabric and use it everywhere. We enjoy reusing materials from old projects like this as it saves money twice. The price was probably lower on the PVC pipe when you originally purchased it and now you don’t have to pay todays inflated prices! Cha Ching! 💰

    I have a similar set up. My pvc isn't glued... I use my well or rain barrels for water. I switch out PVC configuration depending on what I'm growing. Can't water all the garden beds at once with the rain barrel pressure but I have multiple set ups I can switch it from... All configurations start with a water hose connection and end with a cap. Wish I could share pictures. Also I have a larger needle to go around and unclog the holes. Using the well i flush out the system (rain water gunk clogs up holes occasionally). Have a great day.

      Do you soften or filter the well water first, or use it raw for watering? Had my well water tested and many minerals, but also arsenic and too much iron/moly.

    I've used a PVC drip system for about 15 years. The system is one of 8 stations on my lawn irrigation timer. So, every time that comes on the water the lawn, the garden and the fruit trees get their turn. In my system, the 1/16" holes are pointing starlight down.
    The system is divided into 8 parallel branches with each branch having a PVC valve to fine tune the flow in that branch or to shut off a branch that isn't being used (eg, that crop has been harvested). My greenhouse is on one branch of the garden system. The header connecting the 7 branches waters my grapes. Another header on the bottom of the system waters my raspberries
    Everything is assembled without PVC cement -- friction holds everything together. That way, I can take it apart for winter storage, tilling, or replacement of a damaged component.

  • @davidpritchett855
    @davidpritchett855 Год назад

    I love using similar mechanical timed valves. The one thing I'll say is these require a certain amount of back pressure, usually about 20 to 25 psi. This is really only a consideration for rainwater or gravity fed system.

    Those orbit hose "egg" timers are a fantastic tool, allow the gardener to adjust watering times based on conditions whereas programmable timers gave the same watering time every day. Hey Jack, do you have any UV degradation to the PVC pipes in the Texas sun? Mine have become brittle and decompose over time, I'm considering some paint to protect them to make them last longer.

    • @jimsmij

  • @timwilkinson3139

    Look into some UV resistant spray paint. I have done something similar before but over a few years the sun will make the pipe brittle.

    If you were buying new materials instead of reusing old, flexible pipes like for a mainline of a traditional drip system might work good because you could snake the pipe around and put the water right where you want it.

  • @kbold41
    @kbold41 Год назад

    I love this idea! I did something similar but drilled the holes too big the first time. I also didn't give myself extra pipe length at the valves like you did. You could use a small wood block as a drill stop to prevent drilling through both sides of the pipe. Not sure if you meant to do that, hopefully that helps someone prevent that.

    • @survivalpodcasting
      @survivalpodcasting  Год назад +1

      On the one bed I did the drill though on purpose, then didn't like it so covered half with epoxy but only one. So it was a mistake but not an accident. The rest I drilled one side alternations.

    A shut off valve does not regulate pressure, it regulates volume, a pressure regulator would be used to regulate pressure

    • @realnealsmith
      @realnealsmith Год назад

      Jack specifically commented on that. He explained exactly that a valve will not regulate pressure in a closed system, but it WILL control the pressure in an open system by controlling the flow.

      Again it depends. It is kind of expensive and complicated to do wicking beds of this size. We are in the same climate, this method has worked fantastically for me. @@ryanlynch1414 the largest wicking beds I have done are 4x4s. You should also have at least 10 inches of soil 12 is better above the weed blocker, so that is a factor as well.

      If a Californian hears "auto watering system" theyll freak out cause they hate that any water goes to farming xD they never have water cause they live In a desert that is illegally stealing water from 28 states draining the largest lakes and natural monuments all over America America to supply California with water , they act like everyone needs to be using less water so cali psychos can have water when everyone In every other state has plenty of water except of course the states that Democrats keep poisoning the water using fake train derailments with nuclear byproducts on them that the media doesnt even wanna talk about , all the media will tell you about is the Pvc xD the PVC is the least toxic thing on those trains and theres been 8 chemical train derailments in 8 conservative states the last month and all of them were from the same 2 companies owned and funded by Democrats and they were carrying chemicals that are illegal to transport and are only allowed to be made on site because they act like a nuke ending everything in a state wide area , this is all done on purpose but we are supposed to care about what the parasite Democrats want us to do for them??? They should have to rely on the water available to them, they can easily set up desalination plants but instead they just build pipe lines to illegally steal water from 28 states and blame climate change for all the national lakes that were drained after cali set up illegal pipelines in those lakes and down stream from the largest rivers.
