    ugh... i really love how youre doing a series real time. i dont care if they get boring... every little bit helps man. just watching line placement, object placement, shading, alll of it. it would make me super happy to see you do more of these. it helps me learn to improve by seeing these stages. i can think, "hey do this stage. ok now for the next one. ok now the next." and progress through a picture. thanks! youre totally helping me improve a ton!

    Thank you for being raw and uncut. I also thought your directions were clear and I didn't feel overwhelmed by your techniques or instructions like I feel when I'm watching other videos or in certain art classes. Your teaching style is very accessible and you're a funny guy as well!

    Oh, please, PLEASE don't be afraid of long videos. This is what I've been waiting for you to do! Twenty minutes is nothing. I love the "no time lapse" and I love watching you draw. I love that you show the entire process, because that's exactly what some of us want. It's also how we (well, I) learn from you. This is fantastic, and I was absorbed every minute. Thanks!

    I'm a writer and I love playing your videos in the background while I write. There's something about your voice and watching you bring a world to life through art that just makes my writing that much easier. Thank you.

    I think you should most definitely do this again. I think it helps with the technique and a much more realism effect to it.

    It's really suprising to see how much thought you have to small things that I have never thought of as important, like the trees in the backround, and how high the umbrella is in relation to the shrine.

    I'm actually really glad you're doing this series, Mark. You really get to see your process and like you mentioned show people that an illustration's not something that comes automatically. I actually added this video and will add the rest of the series in a playlist of all things that can help artists because I feel like new artists need to understand that perfection comes through time and effort. So, I'm looking forward to the rest of the series and hope you do more of these in the future. c:

    A few years too late, but hey! I love that format.
    I just started drawing a few weeks earlyer and I think I learn a lot by seeing this non time lapsed videos. It gives me the right feeling about how long it is going to take to make a decent coloring. And I try to notice all the little nuances in holding the pencil, drawing something, changing it again, seeing decisions forming. Good stuff.

  • @muskndusk
    @muskndusk 11 лет назад

    Don't worry so much about the time. I love watching unedited, non time-lapse art videos, they're so much more effective for learning from than a few quick shots of a drawing or painting which probably took hours.
    Wish I didn't have to wait a week for the next part!

  • @Anight94
    @Anight94 11 лет назад

    Really liked the part about the choice to draw the umbrella first, really opened my eyes to the thought process behind the creation of a good composition. I'll bear that in mind next time I pick up my pencil to draw.

    Thank you very much Mr. Crilley. I want to be a concept artist when I'm older and seeing a no time-lapse video really helped me see how long it truly takes to make a well detailed drawing. I admire that you listened to your fans and did a whole illustration (and commentary!) without time lapse. :)

  • @Lighningeyes
    @Lighningeyes 11 лет назад

    I'm really glad you're doing these videos without time lapse; for a long time I would get really discouraged when it took me a while to draw something because I never knew how much time really went into these sort of things, and I feel like showing the whole process will help beginners not to feel self-conscious about taking a while to finish their drawings/paintings because they'll have a more accurate sense of how much time and effort artists put in to their works :)

  • @VibeGuyAndy

    I'm so glad you're doing this little video series thing. It's already helping me put illustration in a better perspective, especially your comment about the time it takes for a finished piece. I used to get discouraged, thinking, 'this'll take me forever'. But not so much now. Thank You Mark! ^_^

    I'm so excited for the other videos! It's so helpful to be able to know the thought process through the planning and to be able to see sort of the "storyboard" process in illustration. I don't think you have to worry about losing subscribers :) I find this process helpful for any artist - even in story writing, to not be afraid to have a "rough draft". Thanks for making this!

    You don't give yourself enough credit Mark. You're an excellent artist, and no matter what pose you choose (motion or not) it's always intriguing. I think it's personally because you're really well-versed in drawing anatomy, and as you said yourself your landscape scenes are exceptional. There's a sort of vintage quality to your pictures that always makes me keep watching ;)

    Yay, finally. I see a lot of beginners who tend to think illustrations come together in a matter of a few minutes, I think you're in a great position to show them you have to be willing to spend some real time on a piece for it to look good :).
    On an unrelated note, I want to hear Mark's outgoing voice message. I can just imagine it: "Hey this is Mark Crilley. I'm not home right now, but please leave a message and I'll get back to you....real soon."

    Love the real-time approach. It seems important to get a feel for how it starts loose and is developed as you go along and polished at the end. We lose a lot of that in the time lapse.
