I'm losing my best friend to cancer, while battling depression and alcoholism. This video popped into my feed, and then I watched the cover of Times Like These. These videos may have literally saved my life. Thank you.
This is one of the like, 6 billion reasons I worship at your particular altar, JD, you have an insane gift for taking utterly iconic songs and managing to reinterpret them in such a way that you simultaneously change them entirely, yet keep their core, their musical essence, completely intact, and the end result, no matter how well-known the song, you've made it unmistakeably your own xx
@@janetdevlin At this point, after the year you've had so far, I think even you're starting to realise you deserve the praise you get, haha, but that doesn't mean I'll be stopping anytime soon. My campaign of relentless positivity to make you love yourself like I do will continue until the heat death of the universe.... or you kill me, either or :D
Your passion is obvious and touching. Depression and life's difficult challenges are something many of us have to live our daily lives with. Sadly a friend of mine just committed suicide here in the village two days ago. Those tragic events are not common and when they actually happen so many people are affected and feel the pain and sorrow that life can bring us. Thanks for sharing your beautiful music. Cheers!
I saw the title of the song and though to myself, that how the heck are you going to sing THAT! But holy f**k! I mean, I love this song. But perhaps English not being my first language or the delivery of the original, it never felt like THIS! This version as you made it your very own, was a SUCKERPUNCH to the gut! I mean... I'm left speechless after listening to it. I like these kind of melodramatic songs but never in a million years would I have considered "Last Resort" one of them. But here we are... Truly, I applaud you. Thank you for making and sharing this version.
I've heard this song a million times on the radio but I never paid attention to the lyrics until just now. I'm floored. I'm not sure how to feel. Your intensity with this song is palpable. On the one hand I'm impressed and proud of you for how well you deliver this song. On the other I'm saddened and a little heart sick that you obviously feel this the way you do. I'm in no position to tell you that you're fine, but I can say you're brilliant and that a lot of us are closer to fine because of you. Love you Janet. Keep fighting!
I have found a totally new admiration to this song and your crazy ability to make these songs sound so different, yet still recognizable. Keep it up Janet, we love your work. Also the rasp in your voice was a cherry on top. Absolutely mesmerizing.
All the thorns have their rose. To me, this version is not little nor stripped back, but what comes to blossom if you manage to make it through the noise, wild despair and aggression of the brilliant original. Loving your way to bring the inner core out of the songs.
This version with your soulful voice and emotional expression does so much more justice to the lyrics. I can feel every word. 😢❤ I'm in the middle of reading your book and it leaves me speechless at this moment. Thank you and so much respect for sharing your story the way you do!! Wish you all the best, keep sane and happy lovely Janet
I mean, I think the emotion is in the lack of expression. Depression and suicidal ideation are usually suppressed so heavily that the neutrality is what makes it so hard hitting.
@@janetdevlin as you are going the countryway maybe you can cover a Sugarland song? "The very last country song" or "just might make me believe" or whatever you like😊
I was traveling cross country and listening to random radio stations when i found a cool rock radio station in Sioux City Iowa when this amazing song came on. I was blown away on how much more dark emotion came through. What an amazing version. Im sure Papa Roach is proud!
You never cease to amaze me Janet what a powerful song sung like that. It breaks my heart to think of those that suffer through mental health issues and land up hurting themselves it can be a very dark place to come back from but you can come back from there no matter how bleak things might be.
Janet, you have officially blown my mind with this cover. I could never have imagined this song being interpreted this way but you have taken it and absolutely smashed it out of the park.
Interesting interpretation. The one thing that always gets me JD, is the way you translate the songs feeling through you. It makes me feel the song through you. Pretty amazing.
I remember when this first came out, I had just lost a childhood friend, it's a hard song to like after that. You do a great job of giving this the emotion it deserves. 💔💔
Falling in reverse just brought out what inspired this a few weeks ago. Their version is what brought out the emotions in this song. Not to dis this but falling in reverse already blew my mind
Once again you are amazing. I am absolutely blown away by your rendition of the song. I hope you will absolutely keep on doing what you’re doing, because you are great at it. I love you love your music. 😊😊😊💕
Up until 3 minutes ago, my favorite versions of this song were Falling In Reverse's Reimagined version and Papa Roach.. Now you move into second place! Amazing!
What a haunting piece that touches me deeply recalling the many difficult days of my youth. Hauntingly memorable and I think you are the best artist to cover this. Thank you.❤
wow this felt powerful this felt deep for me I understand the lyrics more sung this way and somehow you walk me up to how I felt from time to time just underneath the Surfis of my own feelings. p.s. I love your singing

Another cover far and away beyond the original. Not gonna lie, it hits hard and close to home... A little too close some days, but still, your version just captures the mood so well. Thank you for this.

Such kind of songs with piano play (like that duet of "Lost" and many others that you have performed 😊), they simply reach a fenomenal level with your unique voice ❤ Thank you so much for pleasing us 🤙🏻
It's a feeling a lot of people have. And have a hard time getting past. It can be devastating but hopefully some positive light and love will shine and give hope in these times of pain. If we can let love in.
Well this is a pleasant surprise! This was in fact my wrestling entrance music during my wrestling days. So this means a lot!! And you’ve done it justice. Thank you Janet ❤

You sing this song with the sadness and emotional trauma the lyrics intended....Painful. A brilliant job with the arrangement! Good idea for the warning. Sobering for me.. as a loved one close to me has been doing the self mutilating and I feel useless as I can't do anything about it...
Emo indeed, but the raw emotion really is outstanding. Striping it back forces you to hang on every word of the lyrics. The angry visuals really work too, makes me think of one of the times that I really pissed off a woman I was dating ( no more then 5 to a billion times) in my life. You don't forget that angry red lipstick any time soon. Which reminds me, why do people say they just want honesty when clearly its the last thing they want?
I've been transported to 2008, I'm an angsty teenager again, but wait... this piano melody, this soft yet passionate voice.. My Fringe grows over my left eye, my nails have turned black, where did I get this eye shadow?! Dear GOD NO. "*Rawr* xD" Just setting up my myspace profile now.
