- A killer documentary performance of singer/songwriter Keith Sykes as staged in the environment of a living room concert by his longtime friend and former music industry executive, Phillip Rauls. Here Keith Sykes pulls out all the tricks with his masterful finger-picking combined with his songs of sheer excellence. The sound mix is superb as something you wouldn't expect from this type of restricted environment. Plus, Sykes added narration and story telling puts the audience at ease with his easy-going Kentuckian-style. This living room concert is a rare treat and captures Keith Sykes at his very best. Highlights include, "Coast Of Marseilles" and "Drive Myself To Drinking." A fun time to remember. Dolby sound. Running time 13:56 Rated for all audiences.
He dug post holes around my property when he was hitching to Greenwich Village before he was recording for Vanguard. We spent the night with a few friends in a car drinking beer. One of his first songs he recorded mentioned "tired as a posthole digger breaking rock"
Many thanks. I've been a fan since "I wonder what's so different about her". Call It Love too.
Great song writer & picker. His style is a lot like Verlon Thompson’s in my opinion.
It has been about 8 days since we hosted Keith concert. Both Phillip and I talk about the event every day and enjoy listening to his music. Thank you, Keith for performing from the bottom of your heart. We felt your love of music and humanity.
Just wonderful, thank you! Todd Snider sent me
I actually met Keith Skyes in Hornersville MO in the 1980 but I didn’t know he would be famous! This is great! I’m not strange was famous at that time! Love it!
My favorite song on that album was Making it before we got married it was mine and my ex's song i was a young teen in 1980 still a special song to me always will be!!!😂❤
Keith is from a little town called Murray Ky. right down the road from me. Saw him when he was a member of the Coral Reefer Band with Jimmy Buffett play at the college auditorium there in the 70’s. I still play Coast of Marseille at just about every gig I play. Great song. Jimmy thought so also.
1st time for me....nice finger pickin and very enjoyable...nicely written songs....
thank you so much Mr Rauls for this gem you are a patriot and a gentleman
But seriously folks,! that was too short but thank you for sharing awesome Actually saw him in Memphis in 79 I'm not strange I'm just like you I got hair Between and you know the rest great memory
Enjoyed this in Toronto this morning!
Thank you for posting.
I had the pleasure of meeting Keith at the Rhythm Room in Phoenix AZ back somewhere around 2009 where he opened for Todd Snider. Being a big Snider fan I got lucky I was at the show to catch Keith. He was awesome and was even an nicer guy when I talked to him after his show. I was going to see Todd the following night in San Diego and told my friends of Keith and what a treat they were in for that he was playing as well. Keith ended up having a family emergency and did not make the San Diego show. I was really looking forward to seeing him play again and have yet to see him since. This video you posted made me very envious of you as that would be one incredible treat to catch someone of Keith's caliber in your own living room. Thanks for sharing. I hope he makes it back out to the West sometime soon. Would love to see him again.

Fantastic!
Really nice work Keith.
Oh wow fabulous. Everybody is a star these days. W a fk ?
I don't know who came first or who sounds like who but it seems a lot like Jimmy Buffet and I mean that only as a compliment
Why, oh why was Country Morning Music cut off? This was the song I was waiting to hear.
Sorry Rod. Time restrictions was the cause. But thanks for viewing and commenting!
@@philliprauls Okay. Thanks for the response. Do you have the rest of the clip or was it the actual taping that was cut due to time constraints?
As an addendum to the above, I've been a musician for more than 6 decades and have followed the careers of many musical artists. HOWEVER, it's only in the last couple of years or so that I've come across artists such as John Prine, Guy Clarke, Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt and, yes, Keith Sykes. And I could KICK MYSELF! "Why on earth did I not appreciate the talents of these people much earlier?" I have to ask myself. However, better late than never. These guys - and others of similar genre - are NOW among my favorite performers.
Philip, if you should see Keith, would you let him know that I (Rod O'Brien from Townsville in Australia) have become a huge, albeit belated, admirer of his? I only wish that I could relay that same message to John Prine and Guy Clarke. Thanks!
@@sequencerman5 Yes I have the complete two hour video set recorded.
Any idea what that guitar is?
Looks like a Martin D18 to me.
