    I know you will be dreaming about that line of concretions in the water. I'm glad you were able to go out and pick up a few things and a sneaker wave didn't get you. Keep having fun!

    You don’t need to dig in the cliffs. The concretions pop out on their own all the time. Just check the ground near the wall. Lots of shell fossils. Also, always go as the tide is going out, not in. Much safer and gives you more time to look.

    • @WorldofRockhounds
      @WorldofRockhounds  Месяц назад

      I've found all my concretions on the ground. There was one time where there was a fresh divot and sure enough, one had just popped out all by itself.
      Definitely a big no-no to dig in the cliffside. Not just on the coast, but also the river/creek banks.

    Good advice on the ocean tides/ currents! I'm always struck by that stuff when I'm visiting somewhere being a Midwest guy. Those big concretions were sweet too!

      I've seen some crazy videos of people that aren't paying attention and the ocean just moves them as if they were nothing. It's super scary

    I would love to go rockhounding with you in Oregon! It’s a bucket list item for sure!

      @MarsStones1 just let me know! Winter time is the ideal time after high tides and storms for the certain beaches

    Newport is my favorite area for rock hounding. I’m a sucker for a banded agate, but am starting to get into concretions.

      I have a hard time spotting the blue agates...I tend to find fossils a little better!

    What beach is that? Nice finds. They are already half tumbled.

    You're really close to where a t rex skull and eagle skull fossil was found. It's just south of Beverly Beach, north of Newport, at moolack Beach, where the t rex skull fossil, and the eagle skull fossil was at. I found the eagles skull fossil about 200 yards from where they found the t rex skull fossil at. As soon as you walk down to the creek at moolack Beach. Be careful. Its slippery there real bad.

    Id be sampling the black sand for gold, but thats just me lol

    • @WorldofRockhounds
      @WorldofRockhounds  18 дней назад

      You can pan for gold at some beaches! Strictly with pans and no other devices. However, the black sand is thick and the gold is super fine and hard to see in each pan. I've done it and it hasn't.....panned out....
      Sorry. I had to.
      But seriously...it's a fun experience but there's no actually value in it.

    I thought you said you ripped your back 😮! Glad it was your bag instead. Whew. And I was also hearing dorito wood for a while as well. It's bad getting old. Not much of an alternative though.

    • @WorldofRockhounds

      I do not! I know whale and porpoise are common bone finds. I'm sure there are others too.

    Never heard of treata wood?

    • @WorldofRockhounds
      @WorldofRockhounds  Месяц назад +1

      It is a fossil wood that was bored into by teredos and then fossilized. (Ancient claims a.k.a Ship worms)

  • @Amanda-yf7vj
    @Amanda-yf7vj Месяц назад

    Cut it!!!!! And what in the world is teredo wood? Like is it really wood?

    • @WorldofRockhounds

      Teredo wood is wood...just a fossil!
